Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

Also hoping to catch up on sleep tonight, Bitchy. Let's hope we don't meet here in the early hours again.

Sounds like you might have the perfect excuse to put your feet up tomorrow, Blue Wink.

Flying - sympathies on the ironing. I did manage to get through a bagful this evening, whilst waiting for dinner to cook, but still have another pile to do. It never ends, does it?

Castle - am very happy to attempt to keep you all on track. It helps keep me on track myself. Well done on avoiding the vino. Hope you (and Flying) get some good news this month .

PA - how is your DD (the one in hospital)?

Carpe - hope you start feeling better soon. DH and I were ill so much when DC were younger. Mother Nature has got that all wrong.

Engel, Feet, Castle - I like your inspiring photos idea.

Well, I did manage to get some more sleep, thanks to DH getting up with DS2 this morning and taking him out to the beach. I took DS2 to a birthday party this afternoon, then DH and I had a 'date' (whilst ignoring wails and various interruptions from the DC) watching the penultimate double bill of 'The Bridge' this evening. I will miss it when it's over.

The babystep for tomorrow is to do one of the missions. Sunday is 'renew your spirit' day and reminders are here.

Hope you all have a pleasant Sunday.

Toffee: no it doesn't and I ignored the massive pile last night, I was screaming "the dog has got to win" at the tv instead Blush

Glorious weather today so going to do some weeding.

AF 7 days late now Confused. Retesting on Wed (no idea why that day, but that's what's in my head now)

ToffeeWhirl · 13/05/2012 12:22

Have spent the morning playing games with DC, clearing up the kitchen and mopping floors and am now cooking a casserole for lunch. MIL is coming over. She doesn't like tomatoes or garlic in her casseroles, but I am sneaking in some white wine. Have hidden the last bag of clean washing upstairs (I don't blame you for hiding your pile of ironing, Flying).

Keep us posted re the testing next week, Flying.

No flying done really - obviously several loads of washing (ironing? - if flylady don't mention it Im not doing it Grin), food shopping, cooking but HAVE started to think about control journal.

Where can I get 31 day dividers?

Any way won't be at home for a couple of days (and no Internet) as will be at hospital with DD as she is having her cataract operation #1 (gulp)

Hope I'm back in time to read some good news from flying - hope everyone stays happy and healthy :)

MoreCatsThanKids · 13/05/2012 13:55

Engelsmeisje · 13/05/2012 18:08

That site is amazing morecats ! Sending DD good vibes for her op.

fx flying

Has been Mother's Day here, which we spent with the ILs so not much flying done today, though did the breakfast washing-up before we left, went for a run this morning, have unpacked the bags from today, dinner is done, tests marked (in car, on way to and from ILs caravan). washing-up is waiting for me, will need to MIL-proof house for tomorrow.

I am determined to keep flying though...have never got this far before!

ToffeeWhirl · 13/05/2012 19:30

MoreCats - best of luck for you and DD! We'll be thinking of you.

Engel - Happy Mother's Day!

hello, as usual not finding time to get on the computer.

Mum has needed me this week, so I've been staying the night/visiting on and off, which has been exhausting [but my driving skills have improved]
Garden slowly improving, but so slowly I want to cry (and do, several times a week) and I keep putting my back out trying to remedy the rubble, the earth and the flowerpot resynching. Husband not best pleased by mud bath but has worked very hard this week to hold the fort whilst I was collapsing or at Mum's.

Only thing worth mentioning is
wedding photos. We put them in an album. Every year we buy a heavy duty cartridge sketch book, and put a selection of photos in. Kids love looking at them.

PA excitement!
Toffee funny how people must have managed before tomatoes existed Smile I put them in everything.

Next week I am going to get back on track! And the catechism classes have taken a break now, just the First Holy Communion itself and one more rehearsal and then I can lie in on Sats which were becoming a mite discordant...

and P.S. new kittens are absolutely a tonic! They play endlessly together, and are incredibly affectionate to humans too...

CarpeJugulum · 14/05/2012 07:56

Morning all.

DS slept on his own last night. Until 4.50am. Then snuggled down with me on the mattress on the floor and we dozed for another hour. T'was fab.

Not sure of the plan today. Morning routine natch, and then I have no plans. I was contemplating another toddler group, but haven't spoken to the leader about going along as DS was sick at the last toddlers so it's a bit up in the air - so I think I'll leave it until I can speak to her.

Got my WAH job to do later so will be back then - hopefully with a plan/list!

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 08:19

Morning.
AF def here and had me up from 2:30 until 4 with agonising pain Sad

Plan for today:
Take plenty of drugs Wink
Wash bedding and undies Blush
Have a hot bath
Beg parents to take DS so I can rest

Tackle ironing
Start cleaning (deep clean required) the conservatory

I fear today will be unproductive Sad

CarpeJugulum · 14/05/2012 08:42

Sorry it wasn't the result that you were after. Sad But think if the fun you can have trying again Wink

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 09:17

Planning to conceive at Butlins in 2 weeks... Oh the shame of it Blush

Bath running.
Pants on the line... Hoping the sun will bleach them Blush
Drugs working a bit
Hot water bottle needing refill

Sorry for the lack of personals, I'm so terribly sleep deprived!!

BitchyInTheCorner · 14/05/2012 09:27

Sorry result wasn't what you wanted, flying

I have had some really useless days and have learnt the very hard way which medicines can't be mixed Blush Wrote off a whole weekend though I should be doing stuff including paper work but... It is nice and I need to pop to the next town to do some jobs. So am going to go out in the hills if the need takes me.

Sooo tired today though. Different meds and actually sleeping. I'd happily curl up and go back to sleep. Blush

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 09:34

Come join me.. My Dad is coming to collect DS, a hot bath is run. Then it's off to bed Smile
I managed to clean the bathroom yesterday and dust (DH vacuumed)
Best get DS washed and dressed.

I hate pain, that's more reason to get pg: no AF for about 18 months (that's what happened last time, thanks to bfing Grin)

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 09:35

Just realised that reads quite wrongly Blush

BitchyInTheCorner · 14/05/2012 09:40

Grin enjoy your ds free time. Hills are calling and haven't been out there for a while. Just need another cup of coffee first.

sanguinechompa · 14/05/2012 10:02

Morning all! [Steps carefully over Bitchy and distributes a few more cushions around naughty corner]

I've given up all hope of catching up properly with this thread and with Flying properly this month as intended

Keeping up with basic routines but finding it hard to do anything 'extra' such as decluttering ...(I know basic cluttering should be integral to routines but there you have it Blush) Boudoir (in to which I had started making serious inroads - but didn't finish - has now exploded uncontrollably again)

Had a great weekend - out all day Saturday with friends and then different friends came to us yesterday. DD occupied with lots of end-of-term stuff and prep for her big ballet performance and is off on school trip today. Then she is at school for a day and a half and then it's off on holiday again for Pentecost. 'Temporary' tart-up of ground floor still continuing and so there are still clouds of plaster dust hanging in the air. Everyone who visits leaves with white tinged eyelashes ...

Thank you for round-ups and links Toffee (it's the only way I'm keeping up with everyone atm)

Many belated happy returns to you Blue (hope you had a good 'un). Hope your foot is OK.

Hope your dd is OK PA. Is she still in hospital?

Morecats hope your dd's cateract operation goes well. Try not to worry (although easier said than done I know) x

[Passes strong paracetemol, hot water bottle and tea and sympathy to Flying]

'Bon courage' with garden Swan hopefully will all be worth it in the end! And hope your ma is OK.

Oooh - you have new kittens - they sound lovely!!! I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment because went to buy guinea pigs [sniff] and saw some beautiful rabbits who I know are much more frail and less robust than gps and perhaps not as interactive with dc ... and far more vets bills and daily care are involved but I fell in love with them ...they are reserved until 5pm today ... if I don't turn up they will go back on sale .... ho ...hum ...dh very much against ....ho...hum ...I am worried about them destroying the garden too ....but they are so lovely ....ho ...hum. Need advice from PA!!!

Justgettingonwithit charming the way they refer to your home as 'on site' Angry It all sounds such a nightmare and I'm so sorry it's still continuing on. It must be incredibly hard to deal with. So impressed you are able to help your friend while coping with all of the stress.

Honu Red sea channels feature strongly in Chompa household ...

Carpe hope you are recovering

Sorry, no more time for personals. Got to proof read a fascinating [yawn] document on US export control compliance policy ....oh the joy ....

But huge waves to Feetheart Ellie whoknows Castle Engelsmeijse Foad Feedmecake thewaffler and everyone else I've missed.

sanguinechompa · 14/05/2012 10:04

Forgot to say 'hi' to Linzer ... haven't 'seen' you for a while! Hope all OK!

LinzerTorte · 14/05/2012 10:39

Hi SC and everyone else. Smile I'm lurking intermittently but just can't keep up with the thread and have also cut down on my MNing time as I found it was eating up too much of my morning. Hope everyone is OK; I miss chatting to you all.

sanguinechompa · 14/05/2012 10:41

Waves back!! Great to 'see' you!

[Leaves out sacher torte and strong coffee in naughty corner for all]

CarpeJugulum · 14/05/2012 10:51

Back with no list. Just spent 2 hours dealing with work stuff. It's what I'm contracted to do in terms of hours, but usually manage to get stuff done faster so am a bit grumpy about that.

DS is being a grump - but then I've just spent 2 hours working and not playing with him.

Think I'll give up on flying today and go to the park instead. I hate it, but at least DS runs about and gets knackered. Would be much easier if he was tall enough to climb the high bit to get down the slide - who builds a play structure with an inaccessible to kids (until they are about 7) slide?

Hope you all have good days!

feedmecake · 14/05/2012 10:55

Morning everyone,
Flying, really sorry to hear your news. I reckon butlins will do it you know. If your other half isn't already taking zinc supplements it might help if he starts. Does wonders for the sperm count!

This morning I am mostly cuddling a very upset baby- her first tooth is coming through and she is making one heck of a fuss. Little does she know I'm taking her for her jabs this morning so that wont go down well will it!

My house is looking tidier, although I'm sick of all our make shift pieces of furniture and would happily replace it all. Lack of funds means we wont so I might have to find a way of sprucing things up a bit soon, when I'm on top of everything.

On today's list

dental appointment
jabs for DD
buy baby monitor
buy OH birthday present
...

and more but baby just woken up crying again...

Might not have much time to post today. Will try and check in later.
