Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

Thanks Happy Birthday, Blue! Thanks Hope you are having a lovely day, with minimal Flying duties to perform.

foad -

JustGetting - I'm so impressed by how you retain a sense of humour and positivity in the midst of what is obviously a very stressful situation, to say the least. Your friend is lucky to have you.

Sorry, can't do anymore pms, but to all.

My day, in addition to the usual routine stuff, seems to involve dealing with the usual mountain of washing and ironing Sad. Also have to book some holiday insurance .

Happy birthday blue

I have a trapped nerve in my shoulder. Whoops.

ta da:
meal plan for almost 2 wks
catch up with mum who is doing much better atm
ironing
folding
2nd load washing on

Going to have a nap before school run, ds' stuff for weekend and stupid mileage. Training tonight too. Need some kind soul to pop my shoulder and release the nerve. It's a bit crunchy when it moves atm. Hmm

My inspirational page is a photo of the lounge uncluttered and tidy and clean on the rare occasion it has happened in the past. it is what I am aiming for. it is most definitely not what i have got :( Work in progress, long time work in progress Rome wasn't built... yeah you know the rest.

ToffeeWhirl · 11/05/2012 14:19

Ow, Bitchy, that sounds painful. I did the same thing as you when I took a photo of our bedroom looking tidy. It just depressed me that it became cluttered so quickly again!

BitchyInTheCorner · 11/05/2012 14:26

Well it does kinda explain why i feel so old and achy Grin tis fine. Mum doing school run. i have co-codamol and hot deep bath.

BlueEyeshadow · 11/05/2012 17:11

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

It's been very nice so far - v. decadently we've had lunch out for the 2nd day in a row, and DH and I are going out this evening too with my parents babysitting. Yay!! Minimal flying and also minimal cooking. :)

Hope you can get some rest Bitchy and that your shoulder settles down soon.

Hope stuff does sell foad.

Waves to all and leaves Brew and Wine on the bar.

Flyingwithoutwings · 11/05/2012 17:44

Happy birthday Grin

Finally home... Poas (AF is now 5 days late) and got a very disappointing BFN Confused

Will fly in earnest tomorrow but, for tonight, I'm going to be a bit Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/05/2012 17:57

Aww, Flying, sorry to hear that. I suppose at least you can have some Wine though

Flyingwithoutwings · 11/05/2012 18:03

Thank you, I shall have a glass or 2 Wink
Truly gutted, and have never been this late in my life. Can almost set my watch by her arrival.

Will just have to try again Smile

CarpeJugulum · 11/05/2012 18:04

Aww Flying have a hug and a glass or bottle of wine.

Could maybe be a false negative? I'll cross my fingers for you!

Flyingwithoutwings · 11/05/2012 19:19

Thanks Carpe, I hope it's a false negative too... Early night tonight, it's been a long, emotional, week.

PositiveAttitude · 11/05/2012 20:17

Just jumping in to say Flying be careful with a negative. Dont drown your sorrows with Wine until you know for sure. I had goodness knows how many false negatives with DS (9th pregnancy, so I should have known really) until I was 20 weeks gone! Shock

to everyone. DH has had this week off work and we have started on the mass sort out of things for our move. SOme parts of the house now look like a show home - others just still a little too much "homely". Wink
I am a bit stressed - DD2 is back in hospital in London (was in a couple of months ago with meningitis) - it seems she has been left with a bit of a problem. Hopefully we will get some answers tomorrow.
Work has been mega stressful too. Although I think I can see light at the end of a very long tunnel. Only 25 more work days and 66 days in total before we fly off!! Whoop whoop!!! Grin

thewaffler · 11/05/2012 21:21

flying sorry to hear that and positive hope dd is ok, sounds like you've got loads on your plate

Am pissed off that the orange chocolate tart i was coveting in Tesco earlier this evening and waited until DC asleep to have a treat, was in fact masquerading as chocolate and wasn't very nice (still ate it all though which made me feel more pissed off) so if that is all i have to worry about at the moment, then i should stop whinging

Honu · 11/05/2012 22:31

Bit late, but happy birthday Blue Thanks

I put up with the cheeping alarm until lunchtime yesterday then broke and ploughed a Red Sea channel through the crap wide enough for me and the chair I needed to stand on to reach the thing. It is now sitting on the dresser with the battery removed, and silence reigns. Study looks infinitely worse than it did before, but at least I can work now!

I find maths more interesting than vacuuming and the carpet in this room is evidence of this fact. Am a poor flyer!

ToffeeWhirl · 12/05/2012 04:16

Babystep for Day 12: delete Flylady emails. And keep practising your morning and evening routines.

Saturday is 'Family Fun Day' (no cynicism allowed in Flylady's world Wink). Reminders are here.

Bitchy - hope the painkillers and hot bath worked their magic.

Flying - sorry about your news and cross fingers it's a false negative.

PA - sorry to hear about DD2 being back in hospital.

Blue - glad to hear you've had a lovely non-Flying birthday Smile.

thewaffler - how disappointing for you. (Hmm, you have reminded me now that we have some chocolate in the fridge...).

Honu - I'm amazed you lasted so long with the cheeping! Hoovering is very dull, I agree.

DS1's friend has stayed over, but I have no idea what time they both went to bed because I fell asleep with DS2 at 9pm Blush. At least they were asleep by 2.30, which is when I woke up and checked on them.

DH is taking DS2 out to the beach in the morning, then I'm taking him (DS2, that is, not DH) to a 'cowboy party' in the afternoon. Can't find any of DS1's old cowboy kit, so might have to beg and borrow from friends.

Have a good Saturday.

OP posts:
BitchyInTheCorner · 12/05/2012 04:28

Hope you manage to get some more sleep toffee. Nice that ds1 is able to do normal things like sleep overs. I am sure that if they were too rowdy dh would have told them to be off to bed.

pain was ok early. did driving went training. Pain is now bad but it is because it turns out migraine meds and pain killers that actually kill the pain is a really bad combo. Been doing some exciting googling too. Not only is the combo of symptoms of my migraines supposed to be impossible but the two meds they have advised me to take aren't supposed to be taken together. ShockHmm

Might annoy everyone in the house and run a bath although brain is stupidly awake. I had a bad evening. People can be really stupid sometimes. I hate stupid people. life is too short.

Hope you all have good wkends. Happy family fun day and all that pukey purple shit stuff.

ToffeeWhirl · 12/05/2012 06:11

Still up, Bitchy, but am just about to catch another hours' sleep, if I'm lucky. Sorry pain is worse. Sounds like a trip to your GP is in order.

OP posts:
BitchyInTheCorner · 12/05/2012 06:49

Pain has now eased entirely but still can't sleep. Little doc can do. refer to physio perhaps but there is an 8 wk wait. normally settles in far less then that. so seems pointless. hope u get that hour. Am bored but don't want to get up and do something as absolutely crackered.

CarpeJugulum · 12/05/2012 06:52

Morning all. I know I said I wouldn't be about, but am hiding in the bathroom trying to not feel like death warmed up.

Bitchy & Toffee hope you manage to get some more sleep.

DH slept with DS last night, and I "slept" in my own bed for the first time in ages. Except I didn't really sleep. Kept waking up too hot, too cold, uncomfy, coughing (DS has passed on his cold) and generally didn't sleep well at all.

No plans for today; think DH is planning a trip to the town centre to buy some dinner, but hoping that he'll take DS and knacker him while leaving me to sleep. Except it won't work that way, I'll end up going too as I won't be sleepy then. Mind you, think I need to buy vitamins and try to remember to take them - I'm getting colds far too often. I know it's a hazard with kids, but fairly sure my immune system doesn't get a break. Roll on the summer - at least hay fever lets me sleep! Hmm

Flyingwithoutwings · 12/05/2012 06:57

AF still not here so am not fully giving up hope yet. Will wait until mid week before testing again (£9 pees are a frightening thought).

Have stripped DS's bed and the washing is on.

To do:
Clean bathroom
Wash towels

Plant some seeds and sort veg patch out.

Sigh... It's good to be back home Smile

PositiveAttitude · 12/05/2012 09:10

Good morning.

I have been a blue arsed fly here this morning. I know it is against fat fairy's theory, but needs must sometimes! Blush

I am off for an exciting seminar today, so nothing else will be done.

See you all later Smile

castlelough · 12/05/2012 15:11

Hello everyone!

Thank god today's babystep is easy - I can delete emails! :)

Gives me a chance to catch up on yesterday's inspirational page --which I wasn't going to do until I read that some of you had used photos - better than some of the suggested inspirational quotes < snatches sick basin from foad >

Got most of my list done yesterday.
Had a lie in this morning and dh cooked breakfast at half twelve Blush
Tidied, did the wash up, swept and mopped the floors, crawled back into bed to check on the thread...... am still here! Breaking all the rules today!

Going to jump in shower and head off about my jobs. Dh is working tonight so I am going to do some work on my control journal and some ironing, make up the bed in the guest room for Dad and clean the bathroom.
Then snuggle my cat!

Will avoid the vino just in case am pg ( AF due on wed - how long after that would I wait to test? )

Flying - hopefully it was a mistake, might have been a bit early to test?

And six days late is very late! Fingers crossed!

Blue - Belated birthday wishes!

Toffee - thanks for keeping us all on track!

Attitude - hope your DD is alright.

Engel & Feetheart - why don't we set ourselves the goal of having one
nice photo enlarged and in a frame by the end of May?
We deserve it!

Engelsmeisje · 12/05/2012 15:29

good plan castle !

Flyingwithoutwings · 12/05/2012 18:57

Just dropping off my list (to get me flying again):
All sheets changed
Towels changed and washed
2 hours of gardening.

To do:
An enormous pile of ironing (all washing done :) )

BlueEyeshadow · 12/05/2012 21:13

Waves to all. Spent the morning shopping with my mum & DS2 & the afternoon gardening with DH. He'd got quite disheartened by how late we are with everything this year, but made some good progress today so feeling better.

I've done something to my foot though, which is really annoying.

Hope everyone else is ok.

BitchyInTheCorner · 12/05/2012 22:18

I have done fuck all and haven't even really slept (managed a short nap). Heading to bed in the hope of sleep. night
