Come inside for a Brew and a Biscuit and maybe even a Wine if the mood takes you.

A thread for chatter and nonsense Grin

You did the right thing cats. Sometimes we have to feel like the bad guy to protect our dcs. It s not a good feeling but they cant always understand. You would feel a lot worse if he played and the wound burst or the raised blood flow gave him a stinking headache. Can you do something nice for him to make up for the disappointment? Eg bake a cake?

Thank you both for the good vibes. Having complained and worried about the bus he was quite happy. Yay! He bounced on and has just bounced off with the psychologist having been worried about that too. They film the session with him so she doesnt have to write notes etc while they chat. Fx he will remain quite happy.

Im glad you feel better scout. Just take it easy. Your body is clearly exhausted from the bedtime routine stress.

Hi Carrots Glad your DS is happy so far. Hope his appointment goes well.

I am finding it hard to get going again today. I am hoping that one day I will wake up bursting with energy and be able to get on with things. Hmm

carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2012 11:10

Thanks cats.
Do you have routine times for doing things? I have found that helps. To begin with i had to make myself do them but now i feel uncomfortable until they are done. I still have a long way to go but that has helped.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 11/05/2012 11:40

No carrots, Maybe that is what I lack! But I just can't seem to shift this CBA feeling today.
I almost feel that all my efforts are a waste of time cause someone or something just comes along and ruins it.
Yesterday I tidied the living room and it looked good when it was done but by bedtime it was trashed again with toys all over the place.
I have thought about making the yard look nice but when we get really strong winds like today the wind comes along and blows the greenhouse (plastic type? not glass) over and all the empty pots scatter everywhere.

I guess I'm feeling down and kind of "what's the point?"
Like it's all a battle and I don't have the energy to deal with it.
Life always seems to throw sh*t in my direction.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 11/05/2012 11:52

Sorry! that was a bit of a rant.

bessie26 · 11/05/2012 13:38

cats unfortunately stuff is always going to get messed up again. I just tell myself it's quicker & easier to tidy up 1 day's worth of toys than leave it & have to do days worth all at once.

I vacuumed the hall carpet yesterday at 5pm. It needed doing again at 9am but it only took a couple of min.

Regular days/times to do things really helps me as I do some things almost on auto pilot now. Like changing the kids bedlinen after their nap on a Sunday.

bessie26 · 11/05/2012 13:39

Oooooooh I forgot!

DD1 DID A WEE ON THE TOILET!!!!!!!! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2012 15:39

Cats I do know exactly what you mean. Some of it does seem futile as it does get messed up again. However, when I do keep on top of the piles of paperwork and the mounds of toys appearing downstairs it does only take a few minutes to sort it out. When I don't it literally can take weeks. I also find it very depressing to sit in amongst it. The other thing that I have noticed is that when I can keep it up for a little while the mess doesn't gather as quickly ie when the dcs see me taking care of the house they begin to take more care of it too.

I am on edge cause DS is playing out on his scooter for the first time since his accident.

carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2012 19:38

Will he wear a cycle helmet when he is out on his scooter Cats. I often feel ds should as he is so accident prone.

Ds got on really well at the hospital. Preliminary results suggest he doesn't have ASD, just a few ASD traits. The problem once again seems to be his treatment in his early years in primary school. Sad It is good to know it is something that he can be helped with though.

zoo it's good to hear things are getting back on track. Smile

She's been practicing sitting on the loo for a couple of weeks now so I told her that we would start trying today. We had already reached an agreement on what would happen if she did a wee on the toilet (a chocolate mini egg & blowing lots of bubbles), but this morning we made a new chart with space for 2 stickers & selected a present from the box (a slinky)

I then gave her soooo much pink milk that she must have been fit to burst. With a little persuasion I got her to sit on the loo & after a couple of episodes of fireman Sam (to take her mind off it) she finally did a wee! She was so pleased with herself & I did of course go completely OTT with the celebrations & we must have blown bubbles for at least 10 minutes!

I did let her do a poo on the potty, but told her tomorrow we would try to do that on the toilet too. Then after her nap I started filling her up with pink milk again - she told me that she needed to do a wee on the toilet, but it took half an episode of bagpuss to relax her enough to let it out. A chocolate mini egg & lots more bubbles followed. Then much hilarity with the slinky.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to be such an essay! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2012 20:00

That is brilliant bessie. Well done to both of you. Grin

I am a bit perplexed as to how she watched tv on the loo though. How posh is your house??? Shock

carrots glad DS got on well today & scout glad that headache has finally shifted. Are your sinuses all ok now carrots?

zoo hope DVD night went well & that things are getting on track.

Is anyone up to anything tonight? DH has just got out to pick up some Chinese takeaway & I reckon we will be slobbed out in front of the sofa after that.

bessie26 · 11/05/2012 20:04

She usually watches clips like that on our phone (youtube) but DH & I bought each other half an iPad for Xmas (although only got it a few weeks ago) so she was allowed to watch on that as a special treat because she is a big girl now Grin

I could see the poor thing was so tensed/clenched up, there was no way it was coming out unless I took her mind off it!!

carrotsandcelery · 11/05/2012 20:06

I am supposed to be going to a party tonight. I am full of the cold and have that post hospital drained feeling so I am struggling to summon it to go and get ready etc.

My sinuses aren't sorted yet bessie but they are a million times better than they were. I can tolerate the low level headache but when it got to the point that I couldn't see properly and it was stopping me sleeping etc I really struggled.

What do I do about the party? Stay in and hide or pull myself together and go along for a wee while? Confused

Hi everyone

Tried to post about half an hour ago but my computer suddenly shut itself down as I started typing! Do you think it is trying to tell me something? ( Actually, I hope it was just a reboot after installing updates!!)

Carrots - I hope you have well and truly got off the sofa and got out by now!

Sounds like you all have had busy days!

I have done loads of gardening ( now stiff), cooked tea and written up 2 lessons ( a total about 10-15 minutes work!! Blush ).

I am just about to go and have a bath and wash my hair and then come back to get lessons sorted for tomorrow. (Shouldn't be as bad as it sounds as I have already got half an idea bout what I will do!

So delighted with one of my students. She is just coming up to doing her final exams for three separate sciences at GCSE. She had to fight the school to be allowed to do them as in year 9 she was told by her science teacher she would only get a D grade in the single science GCSE.
She is heading for A/B grades in Physics and Biology and C in Chemistry (maybe B if we can cram more Chemistry into next week's lesson Confused). She is good at understanding science but dyslexic so she doesn't access information very easily from reading it herself - needs lots of talk and diagrams/pictures!!

Back in half an hour after bath.
If there is anyone around, please can they prod me into getting my lesson prep done then!

educatingarti · 11/05/2012 21:26

Carrots- I have loads of great ideas for learning times tables I can pm you stuff if you want. How does your DS learn best? does he learn best aurally - when he hears stuff- or with pictures/images, or is he a learning by tactile stuff kind of child? I have ideas for all sorts of learners.

Here's one for starters - tactile/visual

Lego tables

Get him to make a lego chart of the table he is learning ( From what you said I think you may have a small amount of lego in the house!)

Use the bumps on the lego as the number to be multiplied.

eg for 4 times table use the four-bump bricks
Get him to put one 4 brick
then below that 2 x 4 bricks together and so on!
Use a green base board to keep them from moving around.
Once he has done it up to 12 x 4, get him to recite table, pointing at appropriate set of bricks as he does it. When he can do this smoothly, get him to say it again, detaching the bricks from board as he says each sum. Then get him to put them back again as quickly as he can, saying each sum as he does so - the saying while he does it is really important. If he likes being timed you can time him while he does this!

Finally ask him to do it with "pretend" or "imaginary" bricks, so he just visualises them and makes movements as if placing bricks as he says the table. Sounds daft, but it can really work for visual learners

Three is easily made up of a two brick and one brick together. More fiddly to do, but that gives more time for learning!!!

I'm not sure about 5's - do you have any single row 5 bump lego, or do a 4 and 1 together?
9's are best learned using fingers like this

The lego is great for showing how, for example, 2x6=3x4 because the bricks will fit on top of each other ( have same area of 12 bumps!)

Have fun Grin

Right, really need bath now!!
