Come inside for a Brew and a Biscuit and maybe even a Wine if the mood takes you.

A thread for chatter and nonsense Grin

Definitely testing. I can't get the stairgate up at TS's door if I hope to close the door (which I have to do to darken the room).

We've played trains, had breakfast and are now trying nap.

I've had a glass of milk and some chocolate so feel a bit renewed to carry on my Super Nanny ways.

And he's still at it.

Scout19075 · 03/05/2012 08:30

I keep reminding him he needs to sleep to swim but it's not having an effect.

carrotsandcelery · 03/05/2012 08:40

Oh dear Scout. I thought you had it cracked yesterday. You have my undivided sympathy. It is a huge test of patience and stamina.

bessie gives good advice. Get yourself out of the house somewhere today and get TS as run around as you can. If I am underslept I always do better out of the house. Be careful driving though if you are really tired.

You are right to give MrScout a night on duty. It is not his fault he had to be away but you need a break. Do make sure he knows that he absolutely cannot give in though (re MrCarrots at the start of the week) or you will be back to square one.

I really wish I was closer and could offer you a few hours kip. big ((((hugs)))) Scout. You are teaching him a lesson that will serve him well for life but it is tough while you do it.

And rant and rant and rant some more. You are entirely justified in your need to let off steam.

His eyes are rolling in his head when I lay him down/cover him he's so tired. He WILL. NOT. GIVE. IN.

carrotsandcelery · 03/05/2012 08:43

We have just bought a velux blackout blind for our landing for the same reason as you Scout. Complete darkness does help. We are going to velcro minicarrot's blackout blind to his window frame so that not an ounce of light creeps in.

We have a groclock which I can post to you if you want it Scout (if I can find it). It did us not one ounce of good though. Ds knew he shouldn't be up, he just go up anyway.

At times like these you wish there was a magic spell you could cast just to make them drop off.

I so want to take him swimming. But swimming's at 11. If he doesn't sleep he'll have been up for 8 hours even before we hit the water. He'll be miserable and changing afterwards will be even worse.

Scout19075 · 03/05/2012 09:27

I think he might have finally realized I am the adult and I will win this battle of wills.

Scout19075 · 03/05/2012 09:35

SLEEPING TODDLER!!!!

Now to decide if we're swimming. I told him we wouldn't if he didn't sleep. Swimming, plus lunch out, plus a walk this afternoon will wear him out. But I'll need to get him up in an hour if we're to swim. I guess I could take him in his PJs (yes, we're still in pajamas) and put him in normal daywear after swimming so he could have a few extra minutes kip.

Opinions please?

educatingarti · 03/05/2012 09:42

Phew Scout. Sorry you had such a disturbed night!

I'm a bit Angry and Hmm

So I was in bed for 11.00pm last night. Didn't get to sleep until about 12.30am. then I woke again at 2.30am. Eventually decided my hip was hurting quite a bit (reaction to physio?) despite medium dose of painkillers. Finally took additional painkiller (allowed dose still!) at about 4.00am and was back to sleep by 5.00am. Woke as planned to washing machine starting just after 7.00am. think I got about as many hours actual sleep as I did the previous night!!

Feel like I can't win either - and I haven't even got a toddler! (except maybe an inner one Grin !)

liveinazoo · 03/05/2012 09:46

i really hope YOU get a nap in

educatingarti · 03/05/2012 09:49

Off to dry hair and do physio exercises (gently)!
Back soon!

Scout19075 · 03/05/2012 10:02

I think we'll go swimming. It feels cruel to wake TS after 75 minutes but as MrScout rightly said -- we do swimming "class" as much for me as for Toddler. I'll pack his day clothes, take him in his PJs, and do lots of praising for "going to sleep like a big boy so we can go to swimming class." Toddler LOVES swimming. Loves it. I always said it's the best half an hour of our week. It just feels wrong to keep him from his favorite activity for doing something that, quite frankly, he's hormonally wired to do (test the boundaries of his new found freedom in his big boy bed).

I am, however, shattered and my wrists hurt (which swimming won't help given how much lifting/moving we do with the tots). But I love swimming class as much as Toddler, but for very different reasons.

carrotsandcelery · 03/05/2012 10:07

Scout I think if you promised swimming if he went to sleep then you have to go swimming as he has fallen asleep. I also think if you let him sleep off his overtiredness then you will face a much harder challenge tonight. He has to try to sleep in normal patterns (I do know how much easier said than done this is).

Arti did you nap yesterday? I know one day you had a long nap. That will throw your sleep cycle in much the same way as TS's sleep cycle (and poor Scout's sleep cycle have been thrown. It will be like jet lag so until you stay awake all day you won't be able to sleep normally at night. What a pest sleep is!!!

Scout after swimming can you put tubi grip on your wrists to support them? Are you allowed to take ibuprofen? (you have to eat before you take it).

Sounds like a good plan Scout! The exercise will help him (perhaps) to feel more sleepy at bedtime tonight.

bessie26 · 03/05/2012 10:47

Sounds like a good plan to me too scout. 75mins is a good nap. Dose yourself up with tea/chocolate/brufen/anything else before you go (and pack more in your bag for after class!). FX you both have fun & get another nap this arvo (remember to set an alarm so he doesn't sleep for too long! [hopeful])

liveinazoo · 03/05/2012 13:17
