Scout I learned the hard way to leave it until later unless they show a very clear sign/signs that they are ready.

If travel is in the equation I definitely would avoid going there unless he is insistent himself.

bessie26 · 15/03/2012 16:47

carrots glad your ride went well

scout definitely leave it until all those trips away are over!

I kind of wish I'd trained DD1 straight into the loo now, but hey-ho. With DD2 I am going to start sitting her on the potty at certain times when she is alot younger (we are already practicing sitting on it) so she gets used to the idea of going after meals & before bed. If she's as predictable as her sister we might be able to save a few pooey nappies too!

liveinazoo · 15/03/2012 17:33

carrots im glad things went ok for you riding

little zoo wouldnt sit on the potty and went straight to toilet at nearly 4,having got to the point where putting big girl pants on would stay dry all day then would wash hands for dinner and tinkle all over bathroom floor...was suggested as was holding/fearful letting go to pour warm water from belly button down as she sat on the loo and talk about something relaxing and unrelated.took a few days but once got over her fear she hasnt looked back and within couple days wouldnt wear a nappy for bed either.she was older but we got there in the end!

bessie26 · 15/03/2012 22:06

hmmmm.... do you think I am worrying unecessarily about how often she is weeing?

Both yesterday & today she has come home from pre-school with one sticker on her chart & wearing her wellies, so the chart isn't working. Does anyone have any other bright ideas? My only other idea is to let her choose what her reward should be.

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 22:12

Hi bessie.

What happens when she has an accident?

I could have this totally wrong but there is a possibility that it is being accidentally rewarded at nursery. eg if she suddenly gets a teacher to herself to get her cleaned up and a few teachers rushing to her to sort it all out then that might be enough to make it "worthwhile".

It is more likely that she just leaves it too late. It is totally, totally normal.

I will have a think about alternative tactics.

bessie26 · 15/03/2012 22:20

I really do think it's happening because she is too busy playing, which means there's probably nothing I can do! (Good point about about it maybe being an attention thing, I'll ask her key-worker about that)

It's almost always when she's out in the garden - at parents evening they said that they would ask DD1 if she needs a wee BEFORE she goes into the garden & I don't doubt that they are - she just always says she doesn't need a wee when you ask her!

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 22:21

bessie anything here that you think might work?

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 22:27

or here?

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 22:29

It really does sound like she is enjoying herself and just wants to keep on playing. It is good to know she likes playing outside so much really.

I would resign myself to a pair of doodles and not make a big deal out of it really.

bessie26 · 15/03/2012 22:41

Some good ideas on that first site carrots Thanks (scout & cats you should take a look!) We used several of them when she first started on the potty & I think alot of them would work at home, but I'm not sure that the lure of a colouring book would be enough to drag her in from the garden!

She absolutely loves being outside & they have a fab garden at pre-school with a big climbing frame & slide, as well as lots of scooters & toys

hmmmm.... I wonder if they would be allowed to put a potty outside??? There might be rules against that!

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 22:49

It is a really tricky one.

They could have a lot of fun making a potty room with a wind break somewhere Grin I reckon there would be a queue if they did.

Can she earn visits to the park with dry pants?

Can you point out to her that by wetting her pants she has cut her time outside short? (sorry, you have probably already done this)

carrotsandcelery · 15/03/2012 23:03

If anyone needs a giggle then this has made me laugh especially as I spent a large portion of my day organising Mothers Day stuff for dh's Mum, having sorted out my own mums a wee while back and nagged asked dh to do the same.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 16/03/2012 07:56

I think I have Friday morning exhaustion Sadand I slept all night so don't get it! Hmm Confused.

I think it's just the effort that is needed to get the kids ready to go to school/nursery.
We are on "Day 2" of potty training. We sat for an hour yesterday waiting for DD to do a we on potty or toilet and she wouldn't and instead did a wee on her pillow Yuk!!

Thanks for the link carrotsThanks will try to have a proper look later

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 16/03/2012 08:25

Just quickly as I'm about to leave for school, but ds1 still says he doesn't need a wee a lot. Like if I'm going out in the car 'do you need a wee before we go' would always be responded to with 'no' because he just wanted to go. But now I say, 'right as soon as you go to the toilet we'll go out'. If he says he doesn't need to go, I say fine well we aren't going out then. He will inevitably then go and have a wee and say he's ready to go. Just a thought but could nursery say to her they will go and play in the garden once she's had a wee? Not force her to wee if she can't, but just the act of her physically getting on the toilet is likely to be enough for her to realise that actually she does need a wee?

carrotsandcelery · 16/03/2012 14:53

Our whole extended family have now found themselves using the phrase "I'll just for a just in case" since we potty trained dd.

It has become part of the family vocabulary here. Brilliant idea Chaotic - hopefully that will be enough.

We have realised this week that now ds is sleeping a bit later or staying in his bed later it is going for a wee that finally forces him out (about 5am) so we will be encouraging more just in cases before bed and less water by the bed from now on.

I have been out shopping and to the cinema with dh. This is probably his last Friday off for a while so we were determined to do something just the 2 of us.

liveinazoo · 16/03/2012 16:22

thats nice carrots
dp and i rarely have time just the 2 of us
mind you have had a bit rocky couple weeks and "had words" -long phone call and honest chat bout things so hoping things are back on track
he is changing jobs in a couple of weeks and has a week off between posts so hoping we shall get some time then as will have 2hours a day when all kids are at school/nursery

what are mothers day plans?

carrotsandcelery · 16/03/2012 16:30

I think all couples go through that every now and again zoo - it is good to reassess how everyone is getting on. It is better done before the big row but life is rarely like that! Grin

I don't know what we are doing in the morning but we are meeting my dparents and my dbro and his family and going out for a late lunch in the afternoon so I am excited already.

Ds handed his bag to my dmum this afternoon and wouldn't let me near it so I think there might be something "special" inside as well Grin

liveinazoo · 16/03/2012 17:31

aw thats lovelySmile
im not allowed in the bookbags so i suspect cardsGrin
