Glad DD is ok carrots

CamperWidow · 31/03/2012 09:28

Morning ladies! I put this in WWYD but got no traffic, so I'm asking you lovelies!!!! :)
The in-laws have bought us a lovely double buggy of Ebay. It is really nice, in great condition and only cost them £40. However, they bought it before asking us and it is not wanted! This is for very practical reasons; a) DD1 walks really well/far for her age (2.6) and I don't want her to get relient on a buggy again, b) we live out in the sticks and my route into the village for Tots/friends/school/bus is blocked by bike rails that the buggy won't fit through, and c) I have no bloody room to store the giant thing!!! WE already have a big Graco buggy/car seat and a lightweight buggy, why would I want a third?
Anyway, I want to stick it on ebay and get rid but I don't want to upset them. They know we are a bit tight for money but I would feel abit gift horse/mouth and mean. DH is not being helpful at all. I asked him if he thought they'd be upset, he shrugged. I asked him what we should do, he said dunno! So I told him to find somewhere for the bloody thing to go!!!! Grin
I'm taking it all in good part, I just don't want it or need it! :)

liveinazoo · 31/03/2012 15:19

hmmm.tough call camper if you cant use it it has to go or it will just clutter up the place
if your in laws are very approachable you could try broach subject saying how much you apprecited the thought but that unfortunately its size makes it too impractical for everyday use for which they had bought it and would they know of anyone who could make good use of it as you feel bad it will be sat gathering dust?

CatsSleepAnywhere · 31/03/2012 17:52

Very quiet here today!

liveinazoo · 31/03/2012 18:23

for anyone who loves looking at baking i fell into tastespotting.com today

the muffin section was too much.i managed 5 pages before kids dragged me away
nom.nom.nom

i may not be in later, def tomorrow though

carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2012 18:33

Ooooh Camper that is a tricky one.

How capable is dh of having a chat with them about appreciating the gesture but it not fitting on the path you use? (If it was my dh he would nod and agree as I detailed all the tactful ways it could be put and then go on the phone and say, " We don't want it" in the most tactless way possible to imagine.)

How brave/comfortable do you feel telling them what you have told us?

Could you ebay it for a profit and give them the money back, with the profit, to lessen the blow?

You can't keep it. It is a waste, clutter and will make you feel guilty all the time.

carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2012 18:59

It was 24C during the week and today, near us, there is snow on the hills Shock

We have had to put the heating on. Brrrrrr!

CamperWidow · 31/03/2012 21:08

Cheers guys. DH doesn't see it as a problem, really, probably cus he doesn't have to manouvere around it all bloody day! :) I can't even get it through the front door as it's side-by-side so would have to load/unload in the street! If they'd only asked first, I could have told them all this and saved any hassle. They are both lovely and I get on really well with them, but I kinda feel DH should be the one saying something. I would have to if it was my parents, he wouldn't. Grrr!
Carrots we're sat here with the fire on!

Scout19075 · 31/03/2012 21:22

Ummmm, camper, I don't know what I'd do. I'm lucky that my PiL either ask me what I want and tell me to get it & they'll reimburse or ask me what I want and they'll get it for a gift (ie, Christmas). That's how we got our pushchair chasis I found two or three and they bought one, wrapped it and put it under the tree with a tag "To BabyScout and his parents." I think my MiL wanted to get Toddler his cot until I said a friend gave us her cotbed as her daughter was getting a big-girl bed and for a while after that it was "is there any big equipment you need? Do you need a highchair or table or dresser or anything?" Now it's "What toys would you like Toddler to have? How about clothes what do you need for the next season?" She will give me the baby/toddler/children's clothes catalgues and a pen and say "circle what you like" then she gets a selection and either just gives it to him/us or gives it to him for holidays. (For example, I know at Easter he's going to get a selection of spring/summer clothes, probably a new hat & swim trunks and then probably a toy or two to open on Easter day.)

I/We are spoiled. Blush I know I/we are lucky.

Toddler has had a rough day. I feel quite Sad about it.

Scout19075 · 31/03/2012 22:20

I'm restless.

bessie26 · 31/03/2012 22:58

oh camper that is tricky. I was obvs very kind of them to think of you, but I think the fact it won't fit through the front door is a good enough reason to say you can't keep it, then perhaps follow up with a "..and anyway, DD1 is getting really good at walking everywhere so we probably wouldn't have used it much".

carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2012 23:33

Scout what has happened to TS? ((((hugs)))) I hope you are both ok.

Scout19075 · 31/03/2012 23:39

Oh, nothing happened carrots. He's 2.5, those blasted molars still aren't through, he's not falling to sleep early enough (even though he's in bed on time) and he's still waking at the usual time so not sleeping enough, blah blah blah. Did I mention he's 2? We had lots of Toddler Wobblies today -- he has the meanest, most horriblest parents ever and it's just not fair!

Tomorrow will be better.

carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2012 23:43

Oh dear! You know I have been there. You have my sympathy and you are right, tomorrow is another day and will be a better day.

If it is any consolation my 11 year old (11!!!!) is also cutting a molar and pretty miserable with it. At least when TS gets to that age he can say, "Mom, my gum hurts, can you help me?"

You know you are not the horriblest parents ever but it is our lot to feel like them sometimes to do our dcs the biggest favours we can. Parenting is not a popularity contest thank goodness Grin

((((more hugs))))

Scout19075 · 31/03/2012 23:53

Oh, I know we're not the meanest, horriblest parents ever but I think if he could talk/say those words he'd have shouted them at us today. Today, of all days, was the day I ran into not one but FIVE of Toddler's peers and their mums (and in some cases, both parents) at the shops or at the restaraunt we went to do for dinner. Only one saw a meltdown, though, and she just smiled "ahhh, having a day of not liking his carseat, eh? I have those too."

I should be in bed -- gah! Bloody amazon.com/amazon.co.uk and all of their lovely "toys" for Scout and ToddlerScout. I wish I had a bigger kitchen and a dedicated bookshelf unit just for recipe books and decorating ideas books.

bessie26 · 01/04/2012 07:51

scout have you seen this?
Welcome to momsnet

Scout19075 · 01/04/2012 08:10

Hehehehe. Grin

I must admit, you guys are really big on your large-scale April 1st things here.

carrotsandcelery · 01/04/2012 09:44

Tee hee Scout!

My best friend lives in Houston now - along with half of the population from our area is seems. I constantly tease her about her ever encroaching American language: closet, movies, mall etc. Her eldest daughter has a Texan accent for school and an English accent for home Grin

I have a Brew and am in my pjs. It is lovely Grin

CatsSleepAnywhere · 01/04/2012 13:31

Hi all,

What are you all up to today?

We went out this morning to the park so the kids had a good run around and play. will be off out again in a bit to see DM. No flying done so far today, trying to get out while the weather is still good!

Scout19075 · 01/04/2012 20:53

We had a picnic outside and an afternoon at the farm. No flying here, either, but a lovely family day.

carrotsandcelery · 01/04/2012 20:59

I wrote a post and mumsnet scoffed it!

I chilled out with the dcs this morning and did some craft with them while dh was golfing.

When he got home dd and I went into the city and returned/exchanged some birthday clothes that were the wrong sizes/didn't suit her. We had a lovely time looking around the shops together and picked up a little more craft stuff and some books as well as sorting out the clothes.

We didn't get home until 7.15 so I have decided against flying today Grin

I am Envy of those who still have nice weather. It is cold, wet and windy here and we still have the heating back on.

CamperWidow · 02/04/2012 08:13

Scout they are really good, we are spoilt too! Every time we go, the girls get new clothes/shoes/nappies/wipes/etc, etc. We are going over for Easter and they will have done a treasure hunt and she's getting a pop-up tent and stuff. This really is the first time they've bought anything big without asking! Very odd! I just don't want to upset them at all, they are lovely. Grin

liveinazoo · 02/04/2012 08:32

Scout19075 · 02/04/2012 09:24

I'm trying to psyche myself up to take Toddler grocery shopping. We don't need much since leaving Wednesday (and not returning until after Easter) but he wants "Eddy Bear Ispsis" (teddy bear crisps) with his lunch and we don't have any so that's how I'm going to bribe him into the trolley. He stopped liking the trolley ages ago, which is part of why I go shopping solo on a Monday night, but I need to get stuff for dinner (as well as the "ispsis") so really do need to take Toddler (and we need more than I'm willing to let TS walk around with me for).

CatsSleepAnywhere · 02/04/2012 11:30

Scout I sympathies (sp?) about the trying to shop with a toddler. I try to go alone or DH tries to go but when they are on nursery holiday and you don't have any choice it can be a real challenge! Sad DD is 3 and still has the odd toddler style meltdown which can be quite Blush and hard work.

I haven't been able to get on here that often while the DC are off school/nursery. We are either out or DH or the DC are using the computer or we are doing something else.
Not having much luck with any "Flying" lately, just trying to do essential jobs so we can tick over without descending into too much chaos.

Hope everyone is well!
