M&S saga is over, knew they wouldn't really be able to help but it's still annoying. THey don't stock the lamps I bought anymore so they can't replace them. They don't have any lampshades on their own that would suit so can't send me replacements for those. I could return the lamps & shades and get a refund but then I have no lamps and we dithered for so long to get these ones so I'm reluctant to do that.
So I've found some plain cream shades on eBay (new) and have ordered a big one & a little one.
The originals came with brown which we liked but tbh I think they will give more light with cream, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise :)

FreakoidOrganisoid · 30/01/2012 14:56

I can do stones but not lb Hmm But prefer kg because it's a bigger number and also most people don't use kg so get fewer people saying annoying stuff like "I haven't weighed that since I was 6" Angry

Got back from weekend away today. Had great time! Have alreayd unpacked and 2nd load is in machine Shock

DD has gone into school for the afternoon as they refused her holiday request so thought it better for her to only have a half day unauthorised. But now have to go out in the sleet to collect her and I'm all cosy on the sofa!

JKSLtd · 30/01/2012 15:14

Brr Freak! Cold here but no snow or sleet, DS1 is desperate Grin

I can't do lbs on their own. Saw a prog being advertised about some Americans who were 600lbs+ and their journey through losing weight.
Later on i found my calculator (!) & divided that by 14....42+stone Shock

DD was grumping so I've put her back to bed, hopefully she'll nap until teatime then I can concentrate on the boys. Works today as I don't have to do sch run, otherwise would be tough, she'd have to stay awake.

Quick post before I rush off out.
Feeling smug now as I can see my desk, have thrown away loads of old stuff, I can even see the window ledge, and down to 4 smaller piles and I know what in in 'em.
Still a niff of cat pee though.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/01/2012 19:08

JKS what a PITA re the lampshades, glad you have found a solution though.
Bugs me no end when places discontinue things. We bought all new bedding from JL about 3 years ago, the style had just been released and a year later when I wanted some more pillowcases they weren't making it anymore. Are there really people that replace this kind of stuff on such a regular basis???

Mini that sounds good progress on the office, well done!

The plumber came and has fixed the valve in the tank that was making the overflow run. Bad news is that the shower pump may need replacing and there are some lose pipes in the loft which are vibrating - there has been a weird noise with the shower for a few weeks so at least we know what it is now! He is coming back later in the week to look at those things but just the pump will be £250+labour if it needs replacing. Ouch ouch.

However DH has 3 more interviews this week

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 31/01/2012 10:04

Ali - ouch re plumber. Will be worth it though.

Mini - well done on throwing things out. On the 'organisation thread' one Mnetter said. Get a drawer and only put back what you want to keep / need and then chuck everything else. Rather than the other way around i.e. Open drawer chuck a few bits you don't want. I think it makes for a more ruthless cull.

DS to school on time today - just about!

Today
Empty dishy
Clear dining room
Filing - ugh
Lunch for DD
Pick up Ds from school.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 31/01/2012 10:47

I think you are supposed to keep stuff like that.

Another option is what we have been doing with toys. Put a couple of boxes in loft / woodshed and bring em out when the kids are bored. Bit more tricky with paperwork etc though.

OP posts:
JKSLtd · 31/01/2012 13:01

You could always do a 'halfway to bin' box, leave it a couple of months and see if you go back to it for anything. If not, chuck it.
Maybe Grin

I have been angling onto stuff for years 'in case' eg. An old music cassette case. Can't find cassette, been missing years. Throw out. ( tape is bound to turn up then)

Minimammoth · 31/01/2012 13:31

Angling! What? Hanging, hanging. Stupid text.

JKSLtd · 31/01/2012 14:44

Mini - do you still have the means to play a cassette? Shock Grin
I have CD cases like that, too worried to throw them away.

Blush good point JKS. And actually only have one down at my place of work. Brilliant realisation. I have boxes of bloody cassettes, stowed away, and some vinyl even , you mean I could actually bin 'em < goes goggly eyed at the thought>
On another note, re office have found the source of cat wee smell, a couple of folders with plastic pockets on floor under the desk. Bottom edge soaked. Yuk. I need a shower now.Grin

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 31/01/2012 16:46

Do not start storing things in your work place until it becomes like one of those 'life laundry' programmes where you can't move round all the junk i.e. like dads garage.

OP posts:
Minimammoth · 31/01/2012 16:53

I have just found the empty cassette case music on u tube so in the bin it's gone. Ha that's better. No storage room at work place anyway. So they have to go. Deep breath.

JKSLtd · 31/01/2012 18:03

WELL DONE MINI Grin

I was wondering the other day if we'll ever buy another cd, i mean is there a point? I'm happy with the radio most of the time, I have a playlist on my ipod for the car when i get fed up with the radio. There's always YouTube for the odd song I want to listen to that I don't have. Why buy more stuff at all? Oh and I haven't figured out iTunes at all but I'm not that bothered really.

Hello. Been absent this week - DD has very high temperature and generally pretty bloody poorly so she is (obviously) off school.... And to top it all, we had no power yesterday so our perfect plans to make pizza for lunch and then some rocky road in the afternoon were completely scuppered!!

Grr. So I have a bill for £60 from my electrician and it wasn't even our problem, it was a network problem, but the network didn't get any other reports of outages from any customers and (allegedly) weren't working on the network to cause a power cut so I have no evidence that it was an external issue rather than an internal one. Grrr.

Anyway, at least the sun has come out today, we have power, so we will have pizza and rocky road today instead!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 01/02/2012 10:16

Bin it bin it bin it! My parents are hoarders and I want to get a big skip (or 10) and chuck 3/4 of their house in it Grin

My own house is verging on the dirty today, handprints and pawprints everywhere. And fluff where cats have shredded dd's halo and wand.

But first I need to do next stage of divorce stuff and more coursework. And an online shop before I am forced to serve up the cats for dinner. Although I suppose that would solve a large part of the mess issue...

JKSLtd · 01/02/2012 20:58

Hope everyone has had a better day.
Mine has been busy, well sort of.
Went to bed when DD did though couldn't nap properly as blinking cat kept fidgeting as I'd done his worming drops & he was licking them off Hmm
Then remembered at the last minute it was an orch concert this afternoon & I was running late.
Then a man came round re SN trikes to assess DS2 & he was here for ages.

Thurs:

  • oven being serviced (at some point, we are last on the list)
  • DH getting up first & doing sch run I hope
  • start laundry
  • filing.... Did start today
  • other stuff?

Office now smelling , well almost fresh, dare I say. I will hunt out the rest of the tapes to bin when i get home. I feel almost liberated.
Am now at HMHBs, so have peaceful day until DGCs are home.
Am supposed to be catching up on some admin work whilst here but its gorgeous weather, and b.cold and the sheep are shivering in the field. Have a good day.
