Come one come all, fledgling reunite. 1st of the month and we survived the fright. Bonfire month and lets burn though the housework to prepare for the festivities of December.

As from the 1st we will be babystepping, mission and deep cleaning our way out of the C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome).

For newbies and those who need reminding here is the principles behind the babystep system.

The basic is this:

  1. Do the babysteps.
  2. When you do the babysteps with consistency add in the missions
  3. When you are doing the babysteps and missions as a habbit tackle the deep cleaning.

This thread is a mishmash of people at different stages. The lists can look long, but look carefully, some of us are reposting lists and parts of lists from day to day.

Our motto is this: Do not strive to be perfect, Progress is progress and anything is better then nothing and my personal favourite part of the fly lady system is you are never behind, just jump in and start from where you are.

So on that note here we go. With much thanks to Ellie who lead us with amusing roundups last month.

Day 1: Babystep 1 - How to shine your sink

Mission here - this will update overnight ready for the early fledglings

Tuesday's reminders are here: It's planning day

And for those of you who are eagerly awaiting christmas here is the flylady's crusing into christmas page. Personally i did some of this last year and done some this year and it does take a chunk of the stress out of christmas.

Well now that I have suitably scared you, see you all tomo!!

Right, here is the roundup:

First of all welcome back to PMPY Hope ds' hand is ok and there is no lasting damage. Mobile dc is always a good motivation for decluttering

As for the rest of you NickNacks is right you can talk a hell of a lot.

Nettie and whoknows pondered over the amusement that could be caused by movember if it required the menfolk to wear frocks instead of growing moustaches. Along with Ahhyes, they agree it is for a bloody good cause.

PA muttered over buniies who refuse help and had a hectic day planned.

Lauren let slip her newbie status with curiosity and innocence. The bat is a mn classic injoke, his name is flappy bat

Ahhyes scared me with her productivity with a nearly 8wks old baby dd, and managed to do something her DH had said was impossible for him to do on his own.

MC is on a health kick and started out with her usual determination by making dd walk to school and planning healthy meals.

Rowing popped across from the October thread. New month = new thread with new leader. We find it keeps us on our toes and stops it being too much for one person.

Toffee had two children who enjoyed their remaining halloween treats whilst tiring out their childminder and spent a lot of time planning ds2's birthday party. I am sure he will love it.

Swan had a meeting that mades us all go ShockShock Hopefully she is having a better day today. She also acquired a new hoover.

SC is enjoying half term and commiserated with PA over small furry beasts.

Madwoman was taking the unusual approadh of running around in circles. Can you let us know how that goes productivity wise. I still have snow EnvyEnvy

Molepom didn't manage to get as much done as she had planned but still had a productive day

Nicknacks was appreciating the success of her flying and striving to maintain her motivation by keeping her to do list realistic

Ellie popped her head in and had a shiney sink, but started the day badly. Hope it gets better.

DWM left us fairy cakes and wine to enjoy in the naughty corner (which incidentally is not just reserved for those having a bad day) and focused on the one babystep I always fail at - the early night one.

Linzer came back from a lovely trip.

Feetheart was surprised at how much flying she achieved yesterday but had a rough night. Hope you feel better.

Right back to multi-tasking and productivity...

LinzerTorte · 03/11/2011 12:25

Thanks for the round-up Darkness - I don't envy you!

PMPY So sorry to hear about your DS's accident; hope the appointment today goes well.

feetheart Hope you're feeling better soon and that the NY party goes well (I was introduced to them by a fellow MNer and love their stuff).

swan I thought of you while we were wandering round Ealing (DH was very disappointed that they didn't have any stamps but I found two books)! Was also thinking that I'd love to go back to London at Christmas, but we'll only be at my parents' for eight nights so it's probably not feasible.

lauren It was definitely a culture shock for the DC - DD2 spent half the time walking round with her hands over her ears as if it wasn't sirens, it was car horns making her jump out of her skin. I'd also forgotten just how busy it gets, esp. on the tube. I did feel quite "homesick" while we were there, but am not sure I'd want to live there again.

Hi and welcome to justonemore. Smile

ellie I know how you feel - sounds like a fairly normal start to the day here. Blush

PA Enjoy your friend's visit.

Spent the first part of the morning crisis cleaning (well, crisis tidying really) before fellow MNer's visit and the rest of the morning chatting to her (and cooing over her baby DS) over coffee, which was lovely. Now about to start on the unpacking and, once I've done that, am determined to make a start on some decluttering. We bought quite a few Christmas presents in London and need to get rid of some stuff to make room for more. It's a never-ending battle.

justonemorethread · 03/11/2011 12:44

Thinking of all the laundry I could have put away while sitting at the computer for the last half hour.....

swanriver · 03/11/2011 12:45

no stamps Linzer Shock there were some last week??? Not in the bookshop Oxfam which is just off E B, but Ealing Broadway one (which has far less books)

now if I'd thought you were all in Ealing I would definitely have invited you round - thought it would just be your Dh. I was all alone over second half of halfterm so it would have been a breath of fresh air to have exciting visitors Although on the other hand the house had sunk very low...Blush

done
library work
lunch

push that happened to a friend of mine in Kew cafe with a cup of hot tea which her baby pulled onto himself - she said A & E said she should have kept his hand under running cold tap for 20 mins min before even going to A & E, whereas as she just rushed straight there after prelimary trying to cool down burn. I think it took a month before completely healed but he was fine in himself within a day or two. Hope they are helpful. Poor you, what a shock.

laurenamium · 03/11/2011 13:16

Hiya just a quick one off my phone while children are strapped in and eating bananas Grin

push I'm Sad for ds I bet that hurt!!

Thanks for another massive roundup darkness

Is your Hoover any good swan? I'm researching at the minute!

BlueEyeshadow · 03/11/2011 13:46

Ow!

Now, how's it going?
More work
Window cleaner coming - yay! May have to clean the inside of the windows afterwards though... done
hoover & mop will get back to it in a mo...
tidy desk
get PE kit ready
return tub to CM
Aldi shop and put away - rubbish, no salami!!
Laundry and putting away
CHarity shop drop
Mission - need to look it up, forgot what it is...

Feet - hope you're feeling better. Don't overdo it!
Linzer - glad you had a good time!
swan - I put things on top of bookcases when I want them out of reach. Hope it turns up!
ellie and Darkness - hope things improve.

BlueEyeshadow · 03/11/2011 13:51

Massive cross-post!

PMPY - oh no, your poor DS, and you! Hope it's not too bad.

LinzerTorte · 03/11/2011 13:52

swan They did have small packets of stamps, just not the big kiloware bags that DH was after. I'm sure it was the normal Ealing Broadway Oxfam; it definitely wasn't an Oxfam bookshop, anyway. It was a last-minute decision that we would all go to Ealing (the original plan was for me to take the DC to a museum while DH went on his own), but I shall definitely let you know if we happen to come there again (the next time we're in London, no doubt). Smile I'm not sure you could call us exciting visitors, although I would have been reassured more than anything by the state of your house (which I'm sure is nothing to be Blush about, in any case).

Have wasted far too much time having lunch and MNing. Some work has just turned up, so I suppose I shall have to fit it in over the weekend at some point - it will give me an excuse not to have to talk to my ILs. Grin

More rescuing and unpacking required before I can even think about decluttering.

feetheart · 03/11/2011 14:06

Pushme - poor DS and poor you. Don't underestimate the effect of hospital, shock, DS in pain, etc has on you He will hopefully be fine in a few days, you will be traumatised for much longer. Be easy on yourself.

Quick update to keep me going:

  • Oil part of kitchen worktop - done
  • Kitchen floor
  • Dust living room - done some, need to finish
  • De-clutter in living room for 15mins - done
  • Clear landing
  • Clean bathroom floor - done
  • Make brownies for bonfire night party tomorrow - done and made biscuits for tonight
  • Try and find vest tops for DD's dance show in 2 weeks - might have found some, need to measure DD

Now need to:

  • Finish dusting
  • Do kitchen floor
  • Clear landing - by shoving stuff into loft possibly Hmm
  • Meeting at bank
  • DD's parent's evening
  • DS to swimming
  • Feed people though no idea what!

I have 20mins Hmm

TheGrassIsJewelled · 03/11/2011 14:57

Marking place! Finding the baby steps ok so far. Time for a clothes declutter. Sick of having piles of clothes but nothing to wear, so am sorting them into 'outfits' (such a fussy old woman word) and charity shop stuff. Feeling smug smug smug Grin but finding it hard to get rid of sentimental stuff...

slightlycrinkled · 03/11/2011 15:00

Hellooooo!! Just cantering through ....we are off on for long w/e away in 10 mins ... just waiting for dh to put petrol in the car and faddle endlessly with sat nav thingy (sigh) Why do men always leave these things to the very last minute Confused

Pushme oh no!! Your poor ds (and poor you too). Hope there is no lasting damage. Those sorts of accidents can so easily happen at his age. Hope appt goes well.

Darkness thank you for humungous round-up!! Must have taken forever!

Welcome back Linzer!

Hope you feel better soon Feetheart

Swan well done for surviving half-term while your dh was away btw. Hope you find the Kindle (will hopefully encourage your dh to put it away himself in future Grin!) Hope your ds1 doesn't have too onerous a day at school!

Toffee have a good trip with the school and hats off to you for volunteering. Hope your ds2 recovers soon.

Ellie hope your day is getting better

Ahyes ditto what Darkness said about Flying with baby! You are doing incredibly well. I don't think I did anything when dd was that young except change nappies and the odd bit of washing ....

PA here's to you being third time lucky on the poo hacking front!! Grin
Took gp no.2 to vet yesterday and verdict is that she has potential problem with 'anal impaction' [eeewwwww] They re-ingest certain poo pellets and when this system fails to work properly it all gets backed up (as it were). However, it is an extremely rare condition in a sow so she has given us medication and we are hoping that this is a temporary problem!! (Hand manipulation being the treatment if it isn't! Shock Can't see that being much fun of an evening....Grin)

Got to go! Apologies to anyone I've missed but hope you all have a good end to the week and enjoy your w.e.s! "See you" on Monday! Tally-ho!!

madwomanintheattic · 03/11/2011 15:11

aw push, poor wee man. hope it's not too bad. we have a friend whose crawler's hand found it's way onto an open (and scorchio) hot oven door. it was fairly traumatic, but the little man is fine and dandy now, so hopefully no lasting damage. hospitals and clinics do rather jolt you though, so take it easy and get over the shock x

dd1 is a little sore but mostly fine now - the trauma has worn off and she was up at 6.30 showering for school. Grin

running around in circles was unsurprisingly not too productive. Grin i can't recommend it, really. Grin that said, i did have a major breakthrough as i managed to get all of my Brownie admin done, (finances sorted even though i had to lie to the bank about having signing authority as everyone else has left me to it, cheques written and delivered, entire new order safely sorted and filed, and a neat list of who still owes me money. Wink which is always a bonus. Grin)

oh and i applied for another job, too. and went to a meeting/ baby shower, and discussed home ed/ds1 with the LSA that works with a little boy in dd2's class (who used to home ed herself, so it does make sense, honest!) so maybe it was a more productive day than i thought... (and i made soup and cooked delish roasted roots and chicken for dinner Grin)

so today i have Big Plans and intend to finish filling the new storage wardrobes/ cupboard downstairs. it's still half finished, which means i still have craft stuff and other boxes lying around to trip me up. once i've done that i can deal with the hotspot that i think still has a desk under it, but can't be sure... everything was piled there to get it out of the way when we emoptied the basement, and i need to rediscover the desk, having only just managed to find a home for the thing before we buried it! the laptop on the dining table is functional but irritating. Grin

dw
wmdone
storage
desk (eek)

it doesn't sound much, but it's going to have a mahoosive impact on my my main living area. incalculable. Grin

slightlycrinkled · 03/11/2011 15:38

drums fingers on desk... still mnsetting waiting

Crikey Madwoman sounds like you are reorganising entire house!! Good on you!! Despite having a home office upstairs, I converted a battered chest of drawers in to a receptacle for art supplies/stationery/cards/wrapping paper/office equipment etc for the ground floor and it has saved my life on many occasion (particularly when filling in forms for school at last minute/writing last minute birthday cards etc) Couldn't live without it now.

should be leaving soon, if I wait any longer, I may have do some Flying Shock

babystep 4 the contriversial post it notes personally i think this is a waste of time but all have an opinion. Am sure some can offer advice on how to twist this to something that works. But imo postit notes = clutter.

missions

friday is declutter your purse and car day but if you are anything like me one of these tasks alone will take you significantly longer then 15mins.

Wow molepom you've been busy!!Grin

Going to get back to proper flying tomorrow, with a proper list and everything!

Right that's it. I cant be bothered to do anymore and the chocolate is now demanding my attention.

Makingchanges · 03/11/2011 20:25

I'm sure i remember posting earlier ... But its not here. How strange. Anyway

Ta da

  • post office to pick up parcel x2 as they lost one.
  • shop for essentials
  • booked DDs party. Bear party against my better judgement.
  • visit school re prospective job
  • dd to ballet

Today seems to have flown by and i've got little done in terms of flying but tomorrow i'll be flying all day. However a large proportion of that will probably be decluttering my purse and car .... 15 mins never Grin

elliepac · 03/11/2011 20:55

Ta da list:-

Ordered takeaway

To do list:-

Everything

Quite simple really Grin

The to do list is the most disturbing as we are away at the caravan this weekend and I don't want to arrive home to messy house. Have arranged for cleaner to come in on Saturday so it is sparkling but I do need to do a major tidy. Have also got to pack. Have finished the washing which is at least something.

Have made an executive decision to give up tonight and get up early tomorrow to achieve the necessary.

Had a bit of a crap day overall, started off with shouting at DC's, finished off with shouting at dc's. Nothing in particular, they were just being irritating WinkGrin. Oh and DD has worms. My cup is overflowing with joy at the moment Grin.

Big tired waves to everyone and special thoughts to pmpy, hope ds is ok and have a good w/e sc.

Night all!

molepom · 03/11/2011 20:56
