Come one come all, fledgling reunite. 1st of the month and we survived the fright. Bonfire month and lets burn though the housework to prepare for the festivities of December.

As from the 1st we will be babystepping, mission and deep cleaning our way out of the C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome).

For newbies and those who need reminding here is the principles behind the babystep system.

The basic is this:

  1. Do the babysteps.
  2. When you do the babysteps with consistency add in the missions
  3. When you are doing the babysteps and missions as a habbit tackle the deep cleaning.

This thread is a mishmash of people at different stages. The lists can look long, but look carefully, some of us are reposting lists and parts of lists from day to day.

Our motto is this: Do not strive to be perfect, Progress is progress and anything is better then nothing and my personal favourite part of the fly lady system is you are never behind, just jump in and start from where you are.

So on that note here we go. With much thanks to Ellie who lead us with amusing roundups last month.

Day 1: Babystep 1 - How to shine your sink

Mission here - this will update overnight ready for the early fledglings

Tuesday's reminders are here: It's planning day

And for those of you who are eagerly awaiting christmas here is the flylady's crusing into christmas page. Personally i did some of this last year and done some this year and it does take a chunk of the stress out of christmas.

Well now that I have suitably scared you, see you all tomo!!

Well, we made it to the school trip, but DS2 spent the entire time whining that he felt ill and not joining in . I alternated between scolding him and trying to jolly him along, without success, until I remembered that he was on antibiotics and had had an upset stomach the night before. Suddenly his "my tummy hurts" and "I want to go to sleep" made sense. We lasted till lunchtime, then DH and I took him home (and, actually, we were quite relieved to get away early).

Was a bit concerned by the lack of organisation on the trip, to be honest. It took ages for us to be put into groups and then, instead of each parent being given, say, four children to look after, the TA asked us to tag along with her and her bunch of (14) five- and six-year-old children. This meant nobody was taking responsibility for any particular children. When I asked the TA how many children were in the group as a whole, she had to count the names on her sheet so she could tell me. I did regular head counts, but I didn't see her do even one. It just seemed a bit haphazard to me and I couldn't help wondering when the TA would have noticed if a child had wandered off or got lost. Am I being unreasonable? (Am not sure I'm brave enough to go on the AIBU board!).

The house is still in disarray, but I did manage to tackle the dining room this evening and, after I cooked dinner, DH did all the washing up. Am going to sort more laundry and do some ironing tonight. Have a nice, sociable day planned tomorrow, so will probably not get a lot of Flying done.

Welcome to the thread, Molepom - I am very impressed by your list today!

Madwoman - are you thinking of home edding DS1 then? There are lots of people with experience of home educating on this thread, including me (DS1 for six months earlier this year).

Darkness - yes, 4am is definitely too early! Hope you get a good night tonight.

MC - when is your DD's birthday? I also booked a birthday party today - for DS2 on 19/20 November (depending on when the church hall is free). Ours is a 'Club Penguin' party, though I am emphasising the snowy theme more. There's someone in the 'Parties' topics who gives advice on party themes, if you're interested (I'll check the link in a minute).

Lauren - that looks like a good day's work to me. I love the door-handle polishing bit - weirdly, that's one of my favourite weekly jobs. We have brass door handles and they really shine after a bit of polishing .

SC - A friend of mine had a guinea pig with the same problem as yours. Truly yucky and put me right off ever having them as pets, I'm afraid (especially the hand manipulation thing - eww). Enjoy your long weekend (and I hope you can forget about the guinea pig thing!).

Thegrass - welcome to the thread. You remind me that I need a wardrobe declutter too.

Pushme - how is your DS this evening? Poor boy - burns are so, so painful. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Feet - did you manage to do that last bit of your list in 20 minutes? Wink

Linzer - DH is a bit Shock to hear that you were at the Science Museum at the same time as him! He says he and DS2 left at 2pm. He doesn't remember hearing any German-English speakers, but the fact that you were in the same building is spooky enough. He says DS2 particularly enjoyed the room where all the internet searches were turned into sound and vision. Also the flight simulator.

Ellie - sorry you had a crap day. And that your DD has worms Sad. I hope the weekend away works some magic (I approve of the cleaner booked for Saturday - what a great idea).

Nicknacks - enjoy the cake Grin.

Hope you all have a peaceful evening. Waves to Blue, Swan, Justonemoreread (welcome!), DWM, Rowing, Whoknows, Ahhyes (am very impressed by what you're achieving with a baby attached) and Coosnettle. Sorry if I've overlooked anyone.

justonemorethread · 03/11/2011 22:16

Woo hoo, I managed to declutter all living spaces as well as hallway - managed to get through about 55 out of 70 boxes so far (not all in one day of course), when I put it in writing I realise I should really not have been giving myself such a hard time all this week!
Plus my mum came and helped clean up and cook dinner, which was wonderful.

I just realised the secret of being motivated is get someone else to do the boring jobs for you! Although my mum lives mostly abroad so sadly this will not be a regular occurence.

I even name labelled socks for the pe kit. That's a measure of how productive I've been! I can't believe I'm labelling socks - I never thought I'd be one of those people.

Ok enough with the boasting!

Think I will treat myself to a new mop and microfibre cloth to celebrate tomorrow. Shouldn't Boden or Cath Kidston produce polka dot microfibre cloths? Don't they DO any market research?? (big grin emoticon)

pushmepullyou · 03/11/2011 22:19

Evening all and thankyou for all being so nice about DS Smile

To do/Ta da as ellie Wink

PA I was also thinking about sneaking back under a name change, but I'm so hit and miss at the moment that noone would ever 'know' me and I'd feel all left out Grin

DS has had his dressing changed revealing a Freddie Krueger style skin tone Sad The doctors seem quite optimistic about it though. He has to go back and have it changed every two days for the next fortnight (wish the hospital was slightly closer!) and if it heals OK within that time frame then there should be no lasting damage. If not we are looking at possible skin grafts. I have never felt so guilty! It was not my finest birthday ever.

He seems to be feeling far better than I am at the moment and has just worked out that he can chew it off, so I have taped his arm into one of my rather stylish trainer socks!

Pleased to see that november is the month of meal planning. At last, something that I'm still on top of from last year!

SC, sorry to hear about the GP impaction. I have had various small mammals with similar problems over the years including a hanster that had to be 'coaxed' with external application of olive oil Hmm

laurenamium · 03/11/2011 22:24

Loving the list ellie Grin

toffee fudge I am Shock at your TA not knowing how many children are in a group and not head counting!! No you are certainly not being unreasonable!

Just had a washing swap and now I'm going to sleep! This is the latest I've been up all week Grin night all

PositiveAttitude · 03/11/2011 22:55

Night all. Thank goodness its work tomorrow, these days off are too exhausting for me! Confused

swanriver · 03/11/2011 23:23

SC have a good trip, Envyat Sat Nav.
Ellie so glad you are escaping to caravan
toffee quite agree, a few named children to each parent is the way our school does it, and then teacher still does head count. Gosh those trips are exhausting. Hope ds has peaceful night.

swanriver · 03/11/2011 23:26

madwoman desks can be like whole societies in their complexity when you try and move them. I do much prefer those sort of big overhauls though to more mundane cleaning...

madwomanintheattic · 04/11/2011 03:00

lol sr Grin Grin i've tackled about half of the desk eco-system currently - will finish tomorrow if it hasn't reproduced new inhabitants overnight. Grin lots of things in the new cupboards though, i am ridiculously excited...

i am tittering away at you lot being coy about the gp. Grin ds1 has that particular problem here. Grin Grin. he's a lot bigger than a darned gp, i can assure you, and i always make dh do the whole enema routine. Grin Grin

CheerfulYank · 04/11/2011 03:06

And I'm joining again! If you'll have me. :)

We're still doing renovations so it will be hard, but I need a routine more than ever.

elliepac · 04/11/2011 06:51

Morning all. Check me out, I have a ta da list at 6.45! I am studiously ignoring the fact this is because I was a lazy cow last night Grin.

Tidy living room
Tidy dining room
Wash up
Clean kitchen surfaces etc
Washing on
Washing in drier stack clothes for packing

To do before work:-

laurenamium · 04/11/2011 08:14

Hello, just marking place and trying to keep up! Am following the fly steps/missions and using some of your lists as reminders too... Will chat and be sociable if when the baby sleeps...
Have name changed from tgij.

swanriver · 04/11/2011 09:51

Catherine your wardrobe tip was an excellent one yest.
Mad I enjoyed home edding my ds1 for a while. I think you have to be quite proactive with the socialising though, although that is not difficult from what I hear from home edders. The academic side is actually not the problem at all, well I found he learnt an enormous amount of academic stuff at home, and was AHEAD when he got back to school after 3 months (we home edded due to broken leg, and health and safety issues at school) Tbh I would Love to home ed again, but all three, and mylife would have to undergo a radical change before I did it, it wouldn't just be a watered down version of school day. And dh DOES not agree.

Today started with a run, as I had to chase Ds's bus with his PE kit (which he had forgotten). Unfortunately due to not following Flylady's instructions I was still in my pjs when he left the house, so he had a head start, and the dastardly ipod in his ears so I couldn't screech after him down the road....

Anyway, so I feel a bit energised Grin and so pleased I caught up with him.

Ongoing problems with lost items....
The car key will cost £300 to replace what with initialisation, and worst still I would have to have it recovered to the Renault centre by the AA. So I am going to keep looking for it. I lost it on the way to Mum's last Wed, and put it down somewhere (where????)whilst breaking up a fight on the pavement between the dss. It was in my hand, I was about to get into the car, and then...events took over? Where the blooming hell is it...it should have turned up by now...In the end we were in such a rush to get to Mum's (foot op)that day I took a taxi. Maybe I should go down to the police station to see if it fell into the road...Or in some bag I took to Mum's?

No sign of kindle still Sad

So, guests this weekend. Will start upstairs in our bedroom (which will be guest room)

BlueEyeshadow · 04/11/2011 10:09

Morning all...

To do:
Put laundry away
Tidy handbag and purse
Declutter landing
Hotspots
Cook tea
Spend time with DS2

swan :( Hope things turn up!
ellie and SC - have a lovely w/e away!
molepom - have a good trip.

Waves to all. Off to start on laundry and put the kettle on. Brew?

DarknessSoothes · 04/11/2011 11:25

have you tried ringing the taxi company - possibly left it in there?

Sorry not technically here.

OP posts:
LorelaisMommy · 04/11/2011 11:34

Hi, can I join in? I am terminally rubbish at housework and was barely getting through with one DD, now I have another one it's just madness!!! Anyhoo, DD1 is at nursery today so I only have the 4wo to think about.
The house is a mess and I need to pack for all 4 of us to go away for the weekend, so I think I will just about manage to shine my sink and do 2 loads of washing. I am dressed to my shoes though having been out to take DD1 to nursery. Hey, maybe I'm not that bad?!?! Wink

Makingchanges · 04/11/2011 11:38

Swan have you tried ringing the local police station to where you were when you lost your keys. I'm sure if someone had found them they would have handed them in. When I had the RAC out to my renault they told me something about getting a cheaper car key if needed and I'm desperately trying to remember what it was.

Toffee was also Shock at school. On my teaching practice I helped on a school trip and they allocated all the parent helpers 4 or 5 children to supervise and although we were all in a big group we kept an eye on our own groups.

Ellie Enjoy your weekend away in your caravan. Our caravan is in our garden as we have bought a new one. I'm hoping we get it back on site this weekend as the sit is open all year.

Jobs for today

  • Washing x3
  • Settee hotspot
  • Cook chicken and bacon bake for tea
  • Sort bookshelf
  • Sort through clean washing pile
  • Room rescue in spare room
  • Empty bag and car as per flylady

Right better get on - time if flying this morning

swanriver · 04/11/2011 12:11

done
decluttered two hall drawers
bottom of ds's wardrobe (technically Dh's wardrobe, so horrendous)
ds's drawers (including big pile of memorabilia he loves looking thro)
under the desk again Hmm
rang police station (no luck)

will try taxi, you are right Soothes
MC feel reassured that AA won't think it odd if I ring them [if it comes to that)

so getting lots done, just not finding the key!!!!

swanriver · 04/11/2011 12:13

oh yes and I've now decluttered my handbag a trillion zillion times over last few days!

Lorelais welcome

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/11/2011 12:17

Wow, I can't keep up with the thread at the moment!

Welcome to LorelaisMommy, yes that sounds like enough to be going on with, have a good weekend!

Swan - sympathies re car keys, DH we lost a set with one for each car on last year, was very expensive.

Toffee - school trips here are 4/5 children to one adult, that does sound a bit badly organised.

PMPY welcome back (and you CheerfulYank) - sorry to hear about DS's injury.

PA - this is why we don't have pets.

Waves frantically at everyone else.

I managed my entire morning routine for the first time in a fortnight today, so slowly getting back on track.

Just got back from the solicitors for the will drafting, so that's one big job out of the way.

Still to do:

Change beds / wash sheets
First two loads of washing to dry and put away, together with yesterday's
Hoover downstairs
General tidying
Mammoth ironing pile, might leave that till next week
Lunch
Tidy up of school gardens before pick up time
Home
Tea
School disco x 2 (helping as well as taking the DCs, groan).
Nice dinner and collapse on the sofa hopefully.

I am trying to spend less time on MN in the evenings so I have taken up crochet again, inspired by the MN blanket projects and some of the fabulous links in the Art and craft section. Some of you may remember the saga of the hat I tried to crochet for DD last year that took 6 months and it was summer before it was finished, well I am going to be trying again, hopefully with a bit more success this time.

Makingchanges · 04/11/2011 12:49

Swan I remembered what the RAC man said and unfortunately it won't help you. He was telling me how the local Timpsons key cutting place had just got the equipment to get a new card and programme it. Sorry. I've looked on the renault forum as well and no luck for (reliable) alternatives other than dealer.

swanriver · 04/11/2011 12:53

having laid waste to playroom, sitting room, hall, and bedrooms, I am going to tackle the cupboard under the stairs Grin

Whoknows I bought dd some wool yesterday in an attempt to prevent telly setting in and a tweeny looking craft mag, ended up half knitting a penguin myself Shock as it was too difficult for her

swanriver · 04/11/2011 12:54

MC that's terribly kind of you to look for me. I'm just relieved to hear I'm not only person that has ever lost their car key Blush

madwomanintheattic · 04/11/2011 13:58

urgh. urgh. dh has left for work, and now i've got an e-mail from the school bus service telling me the highway he's travelling on is closed because the driving conditions are too dangerous, so they've cancelling the school buses. it's dark, it's apparently snowing and icy on the other side of the mountain, and he's not answering his phone. have checked the road reports and they all say 'rcmp say noooooooooo'. feck feck feck.

he's driving a frigging vw golf through the mountains in the dark, in the ice and snow, and i bet the daft beggar hasn't even got a blanket or anything in the car in case he comes off the road.

feck feck feck.

i've sent him an e-mail kindly requesting that he might like to let me know if/ when he gets to work. so until then i have to pace. (well, and get the kids to school) it's too early in the season for this nonsense!

at least he put his winter tyres on last week.
