Well, we made it to the school trip, but DS2 spent the entire time whining that he felt ill and not joining in . I alternated between scolding him and trying to jolly him along, without success, until I remembered that he was on antibiotics and had had an upset stomach the night before. Suddenly his "my tummy hurts" and "I want to go to sleep" made sense. We lasted till lunchtime, then DH and I took him home (and, actually, we were quite relieved to get away early).
Was a bit concerned by the lack of organisation on the trip, to be honest. It took ages for us to be put into groups and then, instead of each parent being given, say, four children to look after, the TA asked us to tag along with her and her bunch of (14) five- and six-year-old children. This meant nobody was taking responsibility for any particular children. When I asked the TA how many children were in the group as a whole, she had to count the names on her sheet so she could tell me. I did regular head counts, but I didn't see her do even one. It just seemed a bit haphazard to me and I couldn't help wondering when the TA would have noticed if a child had wandered off or got lost. Am I being unreasonable? (Am not sure I'm brave enough to go on the AIBU board!).
The house is still in disarray, but I did manage to tackle the dining room this evening and, after I cooked dinner, DH did all the washing up. Am going to sort more laundry and do some ironing tonight. Have a nice, sociable day planned tomorrow, so will probably not get a lot of Flying done.
Welcome to the thread, Molepom - I am very impressed by your list today!
Madwoman - are you thinking of home edding DS1 then? There are lots of people with experience of home educating on this thread, including me (DS1 for six months earlier this year).
Darkness - yes, 4am is definitely too early! Hope you get a good night tonight.
MC - when is your DD's birthday? I also booked a birthday party today - for DS2 on 19/20 November (depending on when the church hall is free). Ours is a 'Club Penguin' party, though I am emphasising the snowy theme more. There's someone in the 'Parties' topics who gives advice on party themes, if you're interested (I'll check the link in a minute).
Lauren - that looks like a good day's work to me. I love the door-handle polishing bit - weirdly, that's one of my favourite weekly jobs. We have brass door handles and they really shine after a bit of polishing .
SC - A friend of mine had a guinea pig with the same problem as yours. Truly yucky and put me right off ever having them as pets, I'm afraid (especially the hand manipulation thing - eww). Enjoy your long weekend (and I hope you can forget about the guinea pig thing!).
Thegrass - welcome to the thread. You remind me that I need a wardrobe declutter too.
Pushme - how is your DS this evening? Poor boy - burns are so, so painful. I hope he's feeling better soon.
Feet - did you manage to do that last bit of your list in 20 minutes?
Linzer - DH is a bit
to hear that you were at the Science Museum at the same time as him! He says he and DS2 left at 2pm. He doesn't remember hearing any German-English speakers, but the fact that you were in the same building is spooky enough. He says DS2 particularly enjoyed the room where all the internet searches were turned into sound and vision. Also the flight simulator.
Ellie - sorry you had a crap day. And that your DD has worms
. I hope the weekend away works some magic (I approve of the cleaner booked for Saturday - what a great idea).
Nicknacks - enjoy the cake
.
Hope you all have a peaceful evening. Waves to Blue, Swan, Justonemoreread (welcome!), DWM, Rowing, Whoknows, Ahhyes (am very impressed by what you're achieving with a baby attached) and Coosnettle. Sorry if I've overlooked anyone.
