Come one come all, fledgling reunite. 1st of the month and we survived the fright. Bonfire month and lets burn though the housework to prepare for the festivities of December.

As from the 1st we will be babystepping, mission and deep cleaning our way out of the C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome).

For newbies and those who need reminding here is the principles behind the babystep system.

The basic is this:

  1. Do the babysteps.
  2. When you do the babysteps with consistency add in the missions
  3. When you are doing the babysteps and missions as a habbit tackle the deep cleaning.

This thread is a mishmash of people at different stages. The lists can look long, but look carefully, some of us are reposting lists and parts of lists from day to day.

Our motto is this: Do not strive to be perfect, Progress is progress and anything is better then nothing and my personal favourite part of the fly lady system is you are never behind, just jump in and start from where you are.

So on that note here we go. With much thanks to Ellie who lead us with amusing roundups last month.

Day 1: Babystep 1 - How to shine your sink

Mission here - this will update overnight ready for the early fledglings

Tuesday's reminders are here: It's planning day

And for those of you who are eagerly awaiting christmas here is the flylady's crusing into christmas page. Personally i did some of this last year and done some this year and it does take a chunk of the stress out of christmas.

Well now that I have suitably scared you, see you all tomo!!

ahhyes how's it going? I would say setting a timer is key for you with a tiny one, just 15 minutes and see how much you can get done in ONE ROOM, don't flit from room to room or it'll feel like nothing's done Grin hope that helps a bit?declutter first then cleaning is easier as its not in the way, so 15 minutes decluttering today to start?

Makingchanges · 01/11/2011 13:54

Afternoon all. Was supposed to be organised today and on here first thing but was uprooted by a phone call to a school to visit who offered for mento come in an hour. Cue manic rushing around.

Had a man come to look at house this morning so both myself and DH were rushing around room rescuing.

Still to do

  • Hoover throughout downstairs
  • menu plan (didn't get around to this yesterday)
  • bake muffins with old bananas that need eating.
  • 2 x job applications
  • 2 x washing
  • room rescue further in master bedroom
  • yesterday's and today's mission

Right, job apps first

DarknessSoothes · 01/11/2011 14:25

Afternoon swan Grin was just thinking about the irony of the soothes part. Perhaps Chaotic darkness might be more appropriate name. Wink

laure tentative progress has been made, 15 minutes +shiny sink time in the kitchen and it looks beautiful and have hoovered and de cluttered in the lounge and it looks miles better. Pondering the room of horrors (bathroom) but have No. Fecking. Clue. how to go about that...

justonemorethread · 01/11/2011 14:59

mmh, 21 month refusing to sleep or watch peppa pig dvds, so I think I'll have to live in chaos one more day! (Although weirdly I shined my sink yesterday of my own accord, so actually I'm right on track for the purposes of this thread
!)

justonemorethread · 01/11/2011 15:01

Oh I took all the paper clutter/junk mail and stuck it all in a fancy plastic crate and put a lid on it 'to sort out when there is time' - does that count?

laurenamium · 01/11/2011 15:07

Grin at fancy plastic crate justonemore

Good luck in the bathroom ahhyes my big bathroom clean is a little on the unorthodox side so I'm no help with that one!

swanriver · 01/11/2011 15:19

I have
hung out washing
cleared table
removed the old gammon from a saucepan (don't ask)
rescued hall
assembled large halloweeny box of stuff to send to the Dark Side[loft]

clothes linger though Hmm

TheGrassIsJewelled · 01/11/2011 15:19

Babystep, mission, planning and first Xmas mission done.
Hugely helped by not having a hall or porch, and by 9mo DD napping for 1.5 hours post-swim.
justone, I like your style. We have the large version of the Ikea Hol as a coffee table - a true fancy crate ;0

elliepac · 01/11/2011 15:59

darkness i am going to ask you one more time to stop emoticoning. It is very childish and distracting from my learning of all things fat fairy. WinkGrin.

I have one hour to find the floor in my house let alone shine the fecking sink.

DarknessSoothes · 01/11/2011 16:03

The fly lady has some instructions on bathroom cleaning somewhere. Haven't time but it will be in the zone cleaning section i think Confused

However, I do the following:
remove anything that shouldn't be in bathroom and rehome straight away
take towels for washing
empty the bin, remove empty bottles, make sure toothbrush is ok and not needing replacing the joys of little boys Hmm
stick cleaner into loo and leave to soak
clean the mirror
clean the sink, bath and shower
wipe down tiles
bleach the floor again joys of little boys
clean toilet

And all of that is on my list for today I have got as far as sticking loo cleaning in for it to soak Blush

It would appear that the craziness of life has to stop so that I can stop the migraine. :( which basically means I am likely to be suffering for a few days yet. :(

Made some more progress on my list but not going to update it as I have the very important job of making sausage mash and onion gravy for tea Grin a proper winter/comfort food tea.

TGIJ I dont think we have "met", but honestly... xmas mission??? Shock Shock Shock You cannot be serious, mannnnnn!!

Not done too bad today so far. exhausted, though and a full evening ahead!!

Makingchanges · 01/11/2011 16:31

ahhyes

My bathroom routine consists of firstly putting cleaner down the loo which I leave whilst I do the rest. Whilst that is 'soaking' I gather anything that doesn't belong and remove and put towlers in laundry basket and clean towels out.

I then have a bathroom cleaner which I use in the bath and the sink and shower (I think its Cif but any will do), wipe down tiles usingmicrofiber clothe and spray shower door with cleaner and have a tidy around and then hoover as we have carpet in bathroom.

I only do that a couple of times a week though, the rest of the time (every morning if I remember) I use my microfibre cloth and clean around sink area just using clothe and water.

Once all that is done I use the toilet brush to clean the toilet and the top of the bowl, then flush - done!

madwomanintheattic · 01/11/2011 16:41

thank you to those who showed me the light re darkness Wink - much obliged!

my house is a tip. there are candy wrappers, costumes, pumpkins, and other assorted hallowe'en detritus everywhere. forget whatever the mission is supposed to be today, it's now 'remove all traces of late night sugar fuelled chaos and anything black or orange (that doesn't move independently as the dog has to stay)'

to do:

remove hallowe'enery
wm done
dw done (get me)
vaccuum
banking (brownies)
referral form for dd2
what's for dinner done (plagiarising darkness because it was such a good idea Grin)
move four boxes of paperwork to new home in cupboard downstairs
procure about 6 plastic tubs for craft stuff
dd2 dance
ds1 climbing

i must also remember to keep checking skype, as dd1 has gone into the city with dh to get her braces taken off, some diagnostics done, and then complete new braces fitted today. and as dh is at work (he's dropped her off and is collecting her later) he's connected her to skype so that she can message when she's ready for pick up, or be 'in contact' if she needs to. poor big girl. she's not 12 yet but soooooo grown up. he's picking her up for lunch as she's got an hour free in between diagnostics and getting everything fitted, so i suggested she might like to get him to take her to a book shop as well as for food. Grin it's so weird - orthodontists are so used to dealing with teens that they don't expect parents to sit and fuss, (just turn up and pay, lol) it's a real transition point for her and us! scary! i've told her to call him straight away if she just wants him there though, but she seems quite happy so far. (she didn't actually say 'oh, muuuuuuuuuuum' and roll her eyes, but it wasn't far off...)

laurenamium · 01/11/2011 16:43

I always end up in my bath when I clean it Hmm no water obviously but bathroom cleanery clothes\ socks at the very least Blush

But except for that bit I pretty much do the same routine as darkness

Ta da today:
One load of washing and put away
Kitchen floor swept, waiting for DD to go to bed before I wash it
S&s in bathroom
Mince out for lasagne for tea (me and OH) DD had sausage and mash and onion gravy with mindee children, seems like sausages are on the menu everywhere Grin

Still to do:
Mop kitchen floor
Garage things in the garage
Hoover conservatory

justonemorethread · 01/11/2011 18:09

Ok either I stay up late after the children have gone to bed to do some de-cluttering or catch up on some sleep (toddler disrupting my sleep at night at the mo), meaning that tomorrow I will be rejuvenated and probably more efficient - presumably then tasks that would take one hour tonight will only take 30 mins tomorrow - So which one will it be..... Yesterday I fell asleep with ds1 when I put her to bed at 8.00 so there might not be an element of choice in this!

justonemorethread · 01/11/2011 18:09

Maybe I just need more fancy crates

TheGrassIsJewelled · 01/11/2011 18:32

positive it was the first one, and just involved collecting rubbish into a carrier bag. Not very festive AT ALL!! DD doesn't normally nap so much, so that's probably the only one I'll ever get done...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/11/2011 18:50

You can never have too many crates Just, I use a lot of small plastic baskets too, inside drawers and cupboards. Welcome to the thread, same to TheGrass

Hope DD1's day worked out well Madwoman

Swan - I won't ask, but thank you for reminding me I've got a chicken carcass in the fridge that I need to make into stock

Waves to PA, DWM, Fuzzled, Pink, SC, Ellie, MC, Darkness, Lauren, Ahyes, Toffee, NickNacks, Nettie, Feet and anyone else I may have forgotten.

Well, managed my daily routines today, shined sink, which had not happened for a few days.

I also managed to take back some stuff I had bought in the Sainsburys half price toy sale because on reflection I really did go a bit mad. Taken down Hallowe'en stuff, need to put it all away. Also got rid of a large bag of clothes to one of those door to door collections and took an old printer to the tip, so some decluttering was accomplished.

I did a huge sort out of my paperwork mountain last night, hadn't done any of it for several months unless very urgent, I now have a huge filing pile but at least I have had a good sort out and chucked quite a lot away. We are in the process of writing our wills, which means digging out things like life assurance policies and pension stuff, finding it a bit depressing TBH, but it needs to be done. I also need to do my first ever tax return soon (gulp).

PositiveAttitude · 01/11/2011 18:50

Pleased to hear that TGIJ. I get a little panicky at the mere mention of the C word and I certainly get twitchy with organised people who make me feel so totally inadequate and very jealous!! Grin

Bunny still has a large dangling poo ball because the stupid creature seems to think I want to kill him and not help him!! Hmm No amount of shouting and jumping around worked, so I will have to corner him tomorrow when DH can give me a hand, although he just stands there saying "urgh how gross!! urgh thats just revolting!!" Not much help!!!

Off to evening meeting now. I will be telling them about our plans for next year as this is with some of the trustees who will have to sort out my job replacement. Hope it goes ok.

probably wont be checking in later as I will be dead tired by the time I get home.
See you all tomorrow.

Oh, Darkness - I am disappointed that the naughty corner is only open in the evening. Can I campaign for an earlier opening time? Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/11/2011 19:00

Good idea PA, after all, we do have people in various different timezones to cater for

molepom · 01/11/2011 19:15

Can I join please?

I also have a few odd DIY jobs that need finishing off including fishing DD's keys out from under the steps.

TheGrassIsJewelled · 01/11/2011 19:29

Oh lordy, pa. Am not organised at all, so don't feel jealous on that score Grin.I don't even let DH buy mince pies until december ; 0

madwomanintheattic · 01/11/2011 19:42

if you open at 3pm uk time, that's 8am here. Grin

laurenamium · 01/11/2011 19:52
