October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

elliepac · 30/09/2011 21:08

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

LinzerTorte · 26/10/2011 21:49

What is Reem? I found this when I googled it, but I'd never thought of you as a humanoid robot Nettle. Although after that little episode... Wink

NettleShopOfHorrors · 26/10/2011 22:02

Ah Reem linzer Hoover extraordinaire [hgrin]

www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/8490852/The-Only-Way-Is-Essex-a-glossary.html

LinzerTorte · 26/10/2011 22:09

Ah, I see Nettle. I am obviously not reem. Grin I was also puzzling for about 10 minutes recently over "well jel" (someone's comment on someone else's FB status); I have also obviously been away from Britain for too long. (But I have actually heard of TOWIE thanks to the trashy sleb mags that a friend passes on to me.)

laurenamium · 26/10/2011 22:12

I'm ashamed to say that I caught myself saying "mebs" instead of maybe the other day...Blush

LinzerTorte · 26/10/2011 22:18

It's all gone downhill since I left. Wink Grin

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 22:18

What is this towie of which you speak?

obviously spends way too much time with her bad influences but not enough time on normal people stuff

NettleShopOfHorrors · 26/10/2011 22:19

Tried to watch the programme twice so far and was sooo bored I just don't get it at all!! [hconfused] [hgrin]

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 23:20

Me thinks all this coffee is going to result in a productive but late night. So much for my planned week of early nights. [hhmm]

madwomanintheattic · 27/10/2011 00:54

tsk.
zombies and towie.
fortunately we don't get either, afaik.

right. i have now got to use hockey tape to make black stripes on a yellow t-shirt to turn dd1 into a bumble bee. my life is complete.

DarknessSoothes · 27/10/2011 01:31

Stick tape solves all [hgrin] The guys keep telling me this and I am surprised how much it does solve. [hhmm][hgrin]

substantiallycompromised · 27/10/2011 07:55

Morning fledglings! Were you all drinking yesterday? What happened???!!

(Surveys naughty corner littered with empties and emoticons. [Linzer you missed a bit Grin!!] Sighs at having missed all the fun)

And have you all joined the Flying equivalent of AA or something?? ("Hello, I'm SC, I'm 47 yrs old, one dd 8 yrs, live in Bxls, dh and I run own business and I suffer from Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome")

And what are these "mebs" and "reems" you speak of? [SC feels decidedly old, rubs bunion encased in lace-up shoe, scratches head]

But no! All is not lost! [Weeps with relief at there being someone else on the thread who is old enough to appreciate Pogle's Wood squirrel gibberish]

Was er, just dropping by to post my list but think I er, may return later ... ....SC backs slowly out of thread ...

[Scribbles urgent note for carrier pigeon to Ellie. "Come back soon stop bring reinforcements stop Fledglings revolting stop"]

Grin
LinzerTorte · 27/10/2011 08:15

No alcohol in sight here, SC - I was working and then tackling the chaos until about midnight yesterday so didn't even allow myself a small glass of wine. Sad

Arf at FLYing equivalent of AA - rowing asked upthread where we all were, so we decided to introduce ourselves (maybe that was what started the party).

And you are not old - I don't have a clue about things like mebs and reems either - you are (like me) just suffering from been-away-from-Britain-for-too-long syndrome. I am now wondering whether to use well jel instead of Envy. Or maybe not. Grin

Have just been for my first run in over a fortnight; the drizzle has not done wonders for my hair, so my BBH is urgently needed. Also need to send off my work and then... need to set my timer as I'm not quite sure where to start. Decluttering might be a good idea, though.

laurenamium · 27/10/2011 08:30

Good morning Grin

How did the bumble bee outfit go madwoman? That's very creative!!

Today's to do list:
Clean bathroom
Sweep/ mop Kitchen floor
Shine sink
Clean light switches
Today's mission and baby step
Washing away
Hoover
Find appropriate box/ bag for fake coals on fire to hide away from DD until she's big enough to understand no / dangerous
Get rid of dying flowers

Long list today due to me being extra lazy the last 2 days!!

Toffeefudgecake · 27/10/2011 10:37

Morning everyone.

Still CBA today, so haven't done any of my routines this morning Blush. DS2 was in a foul temper first thing, but DH has now taken him out to see the new 'Tintin' film, so maybe that will cheer him up. DS1 has a friend upstairs with him and won't be happy when I have to drag him out with me in less than an hour.

Today's list:

Get dressed (yes, I have seen the time Blush)
Hair and makeup
Breakfast
Dentist at 11.20 (new filling to replace the one that fell out)
Wash DS1's sheets (nose bleed in the night)
Washing up
MIL here for lunch (will have to be sandwiches)
PM - routines etc.

I feel as if the house has fallen apart recently. The dining room is in a right state, thanks to DH stripping wallpaper off and piling boxes and books up on the piano and floor. I know it will all look lovely by Xmas, but it is so discouraging to have such a messy room. And I keep tripping over people in this tiny house - DH, DS1, DS2, various visitors.... I feel as if I need a day on my own here to sort it all out. Actually, maybe that's the answer. But it's not going to happen during half term.

Anyway, enough procrastination. Have to get my arse into gear.

Hope you all have a good day.

BlueEyeshadow · 27/10/2011 11:24

Morning all - thanks for cleaning up all those smilies Linzer - they were making my eyes hurt!! Grin

Have finally finished the morning routine and settled down for a Brew before getting going again. Had one of those mornings where all kinds of crises erupted at once just as we needed to leave for the CM, so in the rush we forgot the nappy bag. Sigh.

Then rushed on to the shops, where I only got half of what I went for and loads of randoms. More sighs.

Anyway, onwards and upwards - to do:
sweep, hoover and mop floors
tidy desk
research craft lamps and shredder
dinner on early
exercise...

Linzer / SC - I'm still here in the UK and haven't a clue about reems and towie and whatever else it was. Popular culture was always our downfall in pub quizzes... Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/10/2011 11:54

Right, you lot, stop chatting here are your links!

*

Babystep - What's For Dinner? Pizza in my case.

Mission - declutter your dresser.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/10/2011 11:58

SC - are you insinuating that we drink too much Wine on this thread?

I've just got back from the Sainsburys half price toy sale and could do with a glass but am making do with a Brew. DCs are at football camp again luckily, so I can get it all into the loft before they get home. I know I'm usually in the no Christmas till December camp but this sale is too good to miss (my DCs birthdays are early in the New Year too so try and sort the whole lot before Christmas, got snowed in one year and poor DD didn't get much for her birthday).

substantiallycompromised · 27/10/2011 12:48

Moi? Whoknows I wouldn't dare! Grin Thanks for links and well done with the toy sale - really sensible to get ahead and it is not as though you are discussing this Shock Shock

Thanks for the reassurance Linzer/Blue!! Glad I am not entering terminal decline quite yet!

PM - routines etc. nope

DC are enjoying computer time, which has given me time to transfer all my important dates to my new Organised Mum calendar. I can't say how happy this made me [hgrin].

Also realised, whilst enjoying an hour to myself on coming back from the dentist (DS1 had gone to his friend's house rather than accompanying me), that I just need some time on my own to recharge. DH is talking about taking DS2 out for a trip on Monday (inset day) and DS1 will be back at school, so maybe that will be my day to have some 'me time'.

Thanks for the Brew, SC Smile. Very nice it was, too.

rowing - I am not doing so well with the getting dressed first thing this week, as you can see. By the way, I have no idea what you are all talking about - what is 'reem' and 'jel' Confused? Oh, and congratulations on being from Essex. Me too.

WhoKnows - am very impressed by your forward planning for Xmas. I haven't even bought DS2's birthday presents yet and his birthday is in two weeks.

Blue - sorry you had a difficult start to your day. I don't know what Towie is either, although I keep seeing it in the press. Just can't be bothered to look it up.
