October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Good morning!

I am real grown up -stamps feet!!

I'm in East Berkshire and have a gorgeous view of the Queens bedroom ;) Today it is raining. Weather- Sponsored by FLYlady.

Last night I had a dreadful night with DD. She pooed in the night so had to change nappy (not fun!) in the dark to try and keep her sleepy and then she was cold so I had to wrestle her into a sleeping bag at 5am. Luckily the boys are neglected self sufficent in the mornings so DD and I slept in until 10am.

This afternoon my mum is taking the DS's out to the cinema and DD will nap so have a couple of hours peace today. Not sure what I will do yet but don't want to waste it. Any ideas?

Todays list.

Hoover upstairs
Mop kitchen
Clean bathroom
Bins out
What's for dinner?
Wipe down sitting room door
Wednesday's wash
Run DW and empty

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/10/2011 11:16

I need to do my home blessing today, I usually do it on Monday because I don't work then, but changed my days this week to suit childcare so I was at work the last two days. At home for the rest of the week now and the DCs have been packed off to football camp for the day, so I have no excuse.

I also need to get out for a run, might go and do that now while it's not raining, torrential showers all morning so far. Back later

laurenamium · 26/10/2011 11:25

Thanks for the link whoknows Smile

Add today's mission to my list!!

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 11:47

damm it. i don't want to be a proper grown up. WinkGrin

Toffeefudgecake · 26/10/2011 12:24

I am in Sussex and have two DSs, aged 12 and 5. Have a bookish background (bookselling, editing), but am now a SAHM who does freelance stuff and am helping DH set up a business. Worked as a childminder for 2 1/2 years until birth of DS2. DS1 has Tourettes and OCD and I spent most of last year home educating him. Had loads of guidance and support from the very knowledgeable and kind Fledglings on this thread (a surprising number of us seem to have DC with special needs). DS1 started secondary in a special small class in September and is doing OK so far .

WhoKnows - spotted you on the WTD thread! I am also hooked, thanks to my 12-year-old DS, who persuaded his granny that it was suitable for him when she was looking after him Shock. Actually, it is me who has to crouch down on the floor hiding behind my hands most of the time. DS is unphased by any of it. I often think how strange it is that he is able to watch zombies without flinching, but can't manage to open a door without performing complicated rituals. I think the zombies are more straightforward (and, er, not real, of course).

Have had a very unproductive morning, thanks to staying up too late, shopping online Blush. Have some nice new clothes winging their way to me though. DC are being neglected doing educational stuff on their computers this morning. And, I don't know why, but it seems harder for me to get my routines done now DH is at home all day.

Taking DC out to meet a friend and her kids this afternoon, so will hopefully feel like a better mum then.

Hope you all have a productive day. .

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/10/2011 12:31

Toffee - I hide behind my hands quite frequently when it is on, especially when they are sorting out the zombies. It's not normally the sort of thing I would watch at all, but noticed threads on here about it last year before it started and DH wanted to watch so we watched it together (we don't share much of the same taste in TV) and got hooked.

I haven't started home blessing yet, just got back from my run and need a shower and some lunch, picking up the DCs in two hours, oh dear.

Toffeefudgecake · 26/10/2011 12:38

Make sure you use this when you shower, WhoKnows Wink.

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 12:39

Whoop de whoop.

have finally taken apart the bed so that I can store the cupboard doors. Perhaps now i can get my room sorted.

Right now to tackle the bombsite that is the study... help

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 13:48

Sorry think I might have drunk a bit too much coffee BlushBlush shuffles off to bounce in the naughty corner.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/10/2011 13:59

Thanks Toffee - i am going to make sure I always keep a big screwdriver handy as well, you never know.

rowingboat · 26/10/2011 14:19

Hi all,

thank you all for the geographical info. I'm just constructing a mafp with fpins in it [speaks with pins in mouth]
I have a little boy who is 7 and I work part-time in a University, helping students (I'm not sure if the students would agree with that statement). I have lots of degrees and I am not qualified to do anything. Grin Would love to start my own business, but I'm not very good at motivating myself. [collapses at thought of starting business].

I am having a bit of a fed-up day and need to do a quick list

Morning routine
all done
washing in
new load in

5 minute room rescue sitting room done
Emails
Organise annual leave. Still trying to figure out how to book time off on new-fangled HR system. Confused
Gave medicine to DS at school (he was very pleased to see me, I think the school are chaining him to his desk and throwing pencils at him)
park with DS after school
get ready for work - snack, dressed
vits
Measure skirting board - done, but still have to saw bits off...
15 minutes on walk in cupboard still to do

I'm not on dinner duty - smile!

Makingchanges · 26/10/2011 14:19

Well my day hasn't gone as planned. I dropped DD off at GPs and went to post office. Just about got hme and my car ran out of power and now it won't start. Had to cancel swimming lesson and now waiting for RAC to turn up to tell me whats wrong with my car. Grrrr

Whilst waiting though I have tidied the kitchen and made my loaf but am lacking motivation for anything else as worrying how much money that I don't have car is going to take to fix. Sad Sad Sad

NickNacks · 26/10/2011 14:26

Oh no MC that's not good. Hope it isn't too expensive.

My mum has just been to collect boys and said she'll keep them for dinner which is great, gives me a couple of extra hours with just DD under my feet and I don't have t think about what to feed them.

Just sitting down, going to grab a Brew and some lunch and will check the list. Need to add online food shop to it as we have nothing in.

BlueEyeshadow · 26/10/2011 15:44

Woohoo! I've crossed off all my list. :) In the absence of any paid work, I've been doing a little self-publicity via my blog and twitter...

Linzer - I'd almost swap you the sunshine for some work, although I'm not sure I'd get very far with biomass whatever it was!

MC - hope the car can be sorted.

Right, I'd better be off to collect the boys. Can post the tax return on the way...

madwomanintheattic · 26/10/2011 15:49

ha ha toffee! i posted that link a few weeks ago (it's my local soap shop, about 5 minutes from the house) and i'm sooooo pleased it's being used. it's perfect for mn. Grin

which of course, totally outs me geographically. Grin and it's pretty parky here today, i can tell you!

i have a meeting at ten about budgets

and then i need to finish sorting out the winter clothes (started yesterday)

wm x3 i think (backlog from reno)
dw x2 (it broke down yesterday and dh fixed it last night, but after two loads of washing up i went cba Blush_ which means i also have to:

shine the sink

as it didn't get done last night

grocery shop

urgh, mc, that's a pita. we have similar, but not our car as ds1 bashed the car door into someone's brand new escape in a car park on sunday. i suspect he wants us to pay for an entire respray of the wing, for a teeny tiny little paint chip. we've got a million on our car, but i guess you can be a bit precious if you can afford a brand new one! i went mad at ds, but thought it was actually just a chip of our paint that had been left on the car, and that it would just brush off, but apparently not. hope yours is something easy and cheap to fix! such a pain to have to change all plans!

laurenamium · 26/10/2011 16:07

Not much flying gone on here today!but determined to find the time to do mirrors!!

Hope your car is easy and cheap to fix mc Sad

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 16:20

I have just figured out and solved the problem to ds' lego. He needs more. No I have not lost the plot. he has only had fancy kits and quite frankly just wants some old fashioned basic bulding bricks so that he can build whatever his imagination lets him. It might mean that the kits get left in one piece once built and thus less storage is needed - one large random tub of bricks which are generalised rather then all the specialised shit he has.

elliepac · 26/10/2011 16:58

Nothing useful to say apart from the fact that I absolutely love The Walking Dead. It makes me want to vomit quite frequently but i do love it Grin.

OP posts:
laurenamium · 26/10/2011 17:02

Grin at more Lego darkness, I think I know what you mean though, the fancy kits have wierd shaped pieces that only would work on those kits for that exact building! (I remember from being younger myself Wink I was a bit of a Lego addict)

Got the night to myself tonight after DD has gone to bed as boyfriend (OH?) is at a pub quiz so im determined to get LOADS done Grin not sure what yet though!!will post a list later Smile

Makingchanges · 26/10/2011 17:26

Well car has been towed to a garage. No idea whats wrong and won't find out until tomorrow Sad which also means tomorrow i'm up early for the bus - double Sad.

On the other hand, half of dds toys are sorted. Just having a tea break, catch up later.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/10/2011 18:32

Darkness - that is weird about the lego, I came to that exact conclusion yesterday myself. I have just ordered this lego book for DD and need some multi purpose lego to go with it. WE've got some, but never enough to make anything decent with.

DarknessSoothes · 26/10/2011 18:51

WhoKnows Toy-r-us has a double box set for about 35pounds atm. Its a lot in one hit but more then you would normally get as it is an offer iyswim. As it comes in two boxes he will get one now and one as part of his christmas set.
It was this box and this box together as a set. Hopefully it will give ds enough basic bricks. Going to also see if i can extract my lego out of the combined box of doom my mother created when we left. We all asked for it to be kept seperate but she had other ideas. Hmm Thankfull i was a horder and didn't trust my sisters and have some of the boxes from stuff I bought with christmas money Blush Ah well. I only had basic bricks so it should help the cause.

Today I have:
Spent 1 hour decluttering the study
Spent 1 hour sorting furntiure to go into storage for carpet cleaning stuff
Spent 3 hours sorting ds' toys
Spent 15mins in utility room making room for large toy storage unit
Moved and clean ds' bookcase from lounge. (hopefully when lego situation sorted it can go back into his room)
Bought lego
Drunk far too much coffee
Taken bed apart, put cupboard doors into storage in the space beneath bed base and rebuilt bed
Selected a new book for reading with aim to declutter
Sorted out ds' lego account that had deactivated
sorted out ds' email accoun that had deactivated itself
Sorted out plans for tomo

So now I am going to go some more toy sorting so that the toy tray of doom and all the lego is away for now.
Then I intend to get some ironing done and clothes put away.
At least that is the plan not sure it will happen like that though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/10/2011 18:56

Ooh, good idea Darkness. It's mainly DD that uses LEgo, her birthday is mid Jan so I could do half for each DC, or half for her at Christmas half for birthday. We've got all mine and DB's old lego (DB is childfree) but it still isn't much.

laurenamium · 26/10/2011 20:27

ooo on MN on laptop instead of phone app, I dont know where everything is!

Ta Da today: (Not much)
Desk in bedroom - as no nightstand
What feels like a million washloads but is probably only 2 or 3 in reality
Food shop and cleaned fridge
Playgroup
some paperwork (got it coming out my ears now its end of the month)
hoovered
washed up after each meal (but kitchen still looks like a bombs gone off 10 seconds later)

Changes Sad about your car! what a nightmare! I dont often use my car really but I know if someone took it off me I would miss it and find a million reasons to need it instantly!

NettleShopOfHorrors · 26/10/2011 20:58

5 more days of my Frocktober challenge and it will be wear your jeans and trainers day :-)

So sorry for being absent. My excuses are as follows.

  1. Computer broken, (ds put two disks in holder cue repair shop for almost two weeks) (too lazy to use phone or laptop)
  2. Sister visiting
  3. drinking and generally having fun.
  4. exerting all my energy into not pinning dh up on noticeboard saying "free please take"

Im so far behind with you all.

The main (trivial) thing that hit me from a quick skim are

  1. i love SNOW
  2. I am lego buying too
  3. i am a 70s child and far too young for housework
  4. Scottish but living is essex mate init. and if anyone is Reem its definately not me [hgrin]

i havent noticed many halloween emotions in the thread so here we go:-

[hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin][hgrin]
