October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

for some reason sat up late watching Brad Pitt in Troy. Now everyone had told me this was a terrible film, but it was strangely mesmerizing.

Still brooding about classical civilization this morning, and I wonder what happened at the end (went to bed before the Trojan Horse)

so I feel tired. Dh is off to another football match this afternoon with ds2 (More Queen's Park Rangers)

Need to buy lunch, tidy clothes, everything really...but at least the playroom is looking much much better, and I might actually have the courage to sort out my desk which is in there...

madwoman I walk round the house and see the ghosts of many previous colour schemes. The hall was yellow when we arrived, then beige and green wallpaper, then rich green and wallpaper at one stage, now it is a pale sludgy browny pink with green wallpaper which looks fabulous. Other Rooms in varying states of white. Ds2 room is pale blue which is wonderful and restful. Sunny bathroom is eau de nil green. Ds1 room brilliant white with dark red bookcases. Our bedroom orangey cream colour I am bored with.
My mum's fave colour for rooms was lemon yellow or dark terracotta pink so I have to stop myself choosing these colours.

substantiallycompromised · 15/10/2011 11:43

Neigggghhhhhh!!

[sound of clattering hooves]

[SC canters in stage left, neighs, tosses mane, and paws the air ....]

Completely mad Thursday - full frontal Flying Grin
Ridiculously busy Friday working while cleaner did the Flying bit
Entertaining today and tomorrow so can't stop but humungous waves to everyone!!

Ellie that is what I love about this thread. Keats one day and todger-clutching the next Grin but you know what those Romantic poets were like - probably not such a leap between the two subjects Wink

[more pawing of air and tail swishing, SC canters off stage right]

Tally-hooooo!! Enjoy your weekends everyone!

NettleShopOfHorrors · 15/10/2011 14:48

Be back later post or pre x factor drooling over Gary [hgrin]

DarknessSoothes · 15/10/2011 15:44

Ah well life is slow here today. rest is of the highest requirements. But i guess that is the price you pay for being crazy busy and burning the candles at boths ends and the middle for several months.

More laundry to do today.

LinzerTorte · 15/10/2011 16:03

Nettie The two friends I went out with last night were also drooling over Gary, whereas I - the only one without Sky Sad - still remember him as the chubby one from Take That. They were not impressed with Troy either swan (I haven't seen it), but apparently there's an extremely good-looking Irish actor in an old Barbara Taylor Bradford film who is worth looking out for (if only I could remember the name of the film).

Have spent all day recovering from last night and trying to work. Went out for a belated birthday meal last night, which became rather a blur towards the end. Blush I should stick to Austrian friends, who tend to stick to one glass of wine if they drink alcohol at all.

DD1 is at a party, DD2 and DS at a friend's, DH has gone out to take some photos, and so I have peace and quiet in which to work. Cannot drink any more coffee so must think of another way of waking myself up. Chocolate, possibly.

elliepac · 15/10/2011 20:48

Quiet on here today. Hope that means you are all busy having lovely fly time. I am
currently having lovely Gary time Grin.

Back in a bit!

Creeps in, reluctant to disturb the hush...

Well, we've been fairly productive today - ta da:
Laundry sorted
Made bread
Towels washed and dried
Autumn wardrobe swap done - managed to declutter one top in the process!
W/e food shopping done and put away
Sorted out utility room drawer
Taught DS1 to polish his shoes
Gardening (weeding, digging, dead-heading and planting more bulbs)
DH has sorted out the shed
Family pizza evening. Found myself saying to DS2 (age 2) "No, you can't have any more olives unless you eat some pizza". Is that normal??!
Watched strictly
Played on the Wii - definitely exercise :)

Hope you're feeling better now Linzer and Darkness, and that your DD had a lovely party Nettie.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Night all.

NickNacks · 16/10/2011 08:37

Good morning all!

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one with backside planted firmly in the naughty corner. Grin

Ended up at the Doc out of hours clinic last night with DD and ANOTHER ear infection. So peed of with them now- my poor girl. Got some advice on another thread, Thanks Ellie, and going to push for an ENT referral.

anyway no flying has been achieved here and am massively behind on washing so I think I'll be tackling that today.

Have a good day everyone, be back later for personals, DD needs her breakfast!

NickNacks · 16/10/2011 17:22

Where are you all? Hmm

Anyway, I've got all the uniforms and sports kits washed and packed, dinner made and eaten (DH to clear up). Now just about to go upstairs and put a small mountain of clean clothes away and then bath the DC's.

Hope you're all ok and enjoying 'Renewing your spirits'. Grin

I will be spending the evening ironing school uniform, then will be following the Flylady dictum of going to bed at a decent hour.

PositiveAttitude · 16/10/2011 20:52

Who needs to have any sleep before driving half way up the country starting off first thing in the morning!

LinzerTorte · 16/10/2011 20:54

I'm here, but busy working so trying to stay off MN. Did have a lovely belated birthday lunch out (postponed from last Sunday), though - same place as I went for my girls' night out on Friday, but without the alcohol this time. Grin DH took the DC to the playground for a few hours afterwards so that I could work, and then came home and made apple strudel. Smile

Sorry to hear you're all ill yet again Toffee; sending get well vibes your way. Thanks

Have a safe journey, Darkness.

NickNacks Sounds like you've had quite a productive day! Hope your DD is better soon.

Am going to print out some worksheets now to send them into school for the teacher to photocopy for Thursday (being organised will save me about 100 sheets of paper plus ink), then off to bed. Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Smile

rowingboat · 16/10/2011 22:06

Hi all,
just wanted to pop in and give a wave! [waves]
Toffee I hope you are feeling better tomorrow and your dentist can fit you in asap for a replacement filling. I don't know how well these things work, but I have seen temporary filling/filler stuff in boots for in-between losing filling and dental appointment. Or some bluetack?

Did quite a bit yesterday, am really getting into my control journal again. My mother and I are planning ds's birthday, so were, feverishly, list-making and plotting. The house looked tidy and things were good.
Today I have been to work and returned to an absolute bombsite of toys and comics. So have only managed to make dinner and snuggle with ds to watch 'Night at the Museum 2'. That's it!
Oh dear, off to work tomorrow, but luckily it is half-term here so no schooliform or packed lunch to make and I think I will surprise myself tomorrow and not pick out clothes. Just a wash to put on and the x-factor results to watch whilst pedalling my exercise bike.
Back tomorrow later, hope you all have a good start to the week. [plods off on ancient donkey]

swanriver · 16/10/2011 23:00

[pats ancient donkey - very fond of donkeys]

nothing much to report
done
church
ds homework
Night at Museum 2 Grin
Downton [brooding about that now - having moved on from Troy]
dcs enjoying space to play footie now that climbing frame is in bits
looked up scrap metal merchants as there seems to be no response from freecycle
some clothes to charity
cooked nice pasta bake
no socialising apart from church whatsoever (doesn't seem time for that sort of thing any more Confused

toffee I am so sorry. With 4-5 people in the house the odds is always that someone is going to be ill..[or in a bad mood in this houseHmm
nicknacks poor little dd. Hope ENT referral happens quickly. crossing fingers for you.

I have done no ironing whatsoever of school uniforms. But I have washed up mostly. And loads of laundry.

swanriver · 16/10/2011 23:04

linzer during Downton there was the usual M & S advert which starts off as a [spoof] recipe for apple strudel, and then rounds up with Or Alternatively Buy M & S Apple Strudel. It always makes me so cross!! Why do they have to pour scorn on the bakers and choppers of this world...
I love making apple strudel, I think it is genuinely as easy as pie as you can just buy the filo pastry. I love the fact they are enormous too!

BlueEyeshadow · 16/10/2011 23:18

Been busy with church, cooking, ebaying and getting ready for the morning. Now DS1 is awake and grumping and won't settle down. Grr.

Waves to all... see you tomorrow.

substantiallycompromised · 17/10/2011 06:02

Morning all!

[also pats ancient donkey] [also v. fond of ancient donkeys] [also very fond of apple strudel]

Had bit of a mad entertaining weekend and was so tired last night I just abandoned the entire mess and went to bed. So up with the crack of sparrows at 5 am this morning to get first load of dw on and clear a few spaces on kitchen counter in order to make dd's packed lunch for school. Dining room table still needs clearing and I imagine there are X3 more dw loads to go!

Have a safe journey PA

Sorry to hear you are battling with illness again Toffee and Nicknacks. Hopefully you will get all your ailing out of the way for this year in one fell swoop!

We'll miss you Darkness! Hope you have a good week!

Hope you recovered over weekend MC and good luck with interview prep for tomorrow.

Enjoy half term Rowingboat Well done re: your tidy house!

Linzer (rare for me nowadays) I have some private editing work so will be thinking of you as I wield the blue pencil today.

Blue wierldly dd is mad for black olives too - can't get enough of them!

Glad your dd's party went well Nettie

Waves to Madwoman LadyinPink Ellie Fuzzled Feetheart Whoknows DroitwichM Bilblio and anyone I've missed

To do:
Morning routine including dw x 3, wm, s& s, boudoir tidy
Put away 3 paniers of ironing
Restore playroom bomb-site to some semblance of order
Clear dining room table and wash up stuff that won't go in dw
Work work
French study
Exercise
Sewing
Hwk supervision
E-mails to sort out social stuff
Phone call to dh's venerable aunt (80th b'day)
Hoover and dust ground floor and generally put to rights
Laundry
Arrange meeting with dd's teacher

I'm sure there's more but can't think of it right now
Better go and leap (late) in shower
Have a good week everyone!

substantiallycompromised · 17/10/2011 06:04

fhs - editing work and I can't spell wierdly - wierdly!

LinzerTorte · 17/10/2011 07:17

Morning all,

Just flying by before I start work - not that I'm going to get as much done as usual, as DS has his weekly speech therapy session halfway through the morning.

SC Weirdly enough, it's weirdly. Grin (Sorry, have my work hat on today!) Good luck with your editing work - you have an impressively long list compared to mine (FLYing tends to fall by the wayside as soon as I have any work to do; my only aim this morning is to do two loads of washing, so I'm not exactly aiming high).

Blue Love your blog and the idea behind it. The blogs you've linked to sound interesting as well (love german books was recommended in the ITI Netzblatt not long ago); must have a browse once I have a little more time.

swan My MIL makes her own pastry for apple strudel, which involves tea towels and the entire kitchen table. DH, needless to say, sticks to filo pastry - and yes, it was huge but there's only one piece left now (which I have reserved for myself this afternoon Grin).

rowing Hope work goes OK today. We still have another two weeks until half-term, thank goodness (I don't know how I'd get this work done otherwise).

Talking of work, must get on... waves to everyone else.

elliepac · 17/10/2011 09:12

Morning all!

Today it is time for our weekly home bleugh.

Our babystep for today is bedtimes. This is one that some of us definitely struggle with although I must say that my problem is the complete opposite...going to bed too early when I have stuff to be done [hblush]

This week we are in the the Bathroom and 1 extra.

The mission for today is toilet cleaning and dc bedroom tidying. I know ds's bedroom looks like a toilet sometimes [hgrin].

The sneak peek for the week is here.

Have a good day everyone!

Ha Linzer!

I know!

I spelt 'weirdly', weirdly!! Grin

Actually I can never spot errors in my own writing. (Particularly when typing something at 100wpm) And I've been here so long now and write in French so often that I keep spelling English words with too many consonants!
