Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

On a quick flypast as I an taking two minutes out for myself for a drink, and want to score off my list so I feel productive Wink

DH is feeing crappy, but did take DS out to the tip/for a drive so I could work. He's now lying on our bed with a dozy DS watching the F1 so I can get on with stuff even though I feel crappy too Hmm

  • DS washing - in machine
  • Work - done
  • Stick some duvet stuff in plastic sucky bags to stick in eaves - done
  • Stick some other stuff in the eaves - done
  • Clean bathroom - about to do

so just

  • Make stew for dinner
  • Lay away washing
to do really and I can't do washing until DS&DH are awake!

Oh, I'm not so lax as I feel then Grin Onwards and upwards!

elliepac · 11/09/2011 14:02

Afternoon!

Relatively productive morning here.

Ta da list:-
Washing x lots
Washing up
Apple crumble made
Bathroom cleaned
Had a bath
DS room tidied
Tidy downstairs.

Change of plan where lunch is concerned as our BF's rang and invited us round for lunch so I have cooked the pork for use to
Tomorrow and am taking the crumble for us all.

When we come back will do evening routine as am going to bingo tonight! Only beem 3 times in my life but BF loves it and asked me to go so why the hell notGrin.

Better go and dry my hair before we are late!

Big waves to one and all!

swanriver · 11/09/2011 17:56

whoknows - exactly the same in our house, except in reverse. Only ds2 wants to watch it, and he will watch it for hours, if we let him, and rages when we don't.

Today he has done some ppractice, and is being v.reasonable. He says he has watched it, and there was a crash at the start, and only 53 laps and Monaco GP was 77! TMI!

Dh and I have majorly rowed today over homework/house/running around outside provision, grumpydumpiness, touchiness over contents of fridge etc etc.

Plus side,

he took them out to park this morning and had some dreaded pizzas ££Angry
Ds1 wrote his slightly strange version of the life of Beethoven
Ds2 became obsessed by Beethoven's Fifth and kept playign it again and again and dancing around to it manically!
I bought some spanish guidebook to cut up to cover ds1's Spanish exercise book in desperation as he can't draw!
Ds1 did Romans homework
more book covering with sticky back plastic
swept floor

Fuzzled poor you, I think the rainy sneezy autumn befuddled feeling has set in.

oopslateagain · 11/09/2011 18:38

Very unproductive day. F1 over lunch and then a huuuuge roast dinner, apart from that all I've done is some laundry. whoknows sorry but we are all F1 addicts in our house so we are all glued to it every other weekend!

Did anyone else enjoy have to watch the Horrible Histories proms this morning? Dd was bouncing around excited and DH and I were both rolling our eyes at having to sit through it... and then DH was all Shock at me because I knew EVERY WORD to all the songs!

I'm going to hit the dreaded Spare Room hotspot (basically the entire floor) today so I don't feel the day has been completely wasted.

coostoonettle · 11/09/2011 20:20

Evening all!

Grand prix is another one of those unnecessarily noisy sports with duff commentators. Luckily dh work weekend so not stuck with it!

Not very productive although haven't stopped Confused

Tada list
Sorted out additional birthday invites for ds party next weekend
Dinner money and resource money sorted. Packed luck sorted! (should really have look at packed lunch thread, ds said crisps are it! No crisps in his Hmm)
Clothes laid out for morning
Confiscated tons of toys from dc for getting up at 5.30!!! AngryHmmSad does anyone have any hints?
Went to tesco fir bread for packed lunch
Work to get all my freezer stuff I'd stored there. Put back in our clean Defrosted freezer.
Diary sorted need to do calendar
Soft play party done!
Pizza hut As per dh cooking for tonight
Home for bed! Mouth throbbing feeling very tired.

Hope you will all forgive lack of personables.

Have a good start to week.

Good night all.

Fuzzled · 11/09/2011 20:38

Just a quickie to say... I got my list done - except for the washing as the blooming stuff wasn't dry Sad I hate rainy days Angry

Now going to crash and die in the corner as this 'mild sniffle' has hit my chest and I can't breathe properly.

Night all! waves languidly

substantiallycompromised · 11/09/2011 20:45

Hello everyone. Rainy day here. Absolutely no Flying except one load of washing to report. Basically, day consisted of cooking food, entertaining friends and having fun and now I'm clearing up.

How did you all get on? Quite a few fledglings who are ill/sleep deprived I see. Hope the dhs/dps are stepping up to the mark [stern looks from SC]

Nicknack's I hope your dh has cooked the Sunday lunch today allowing you to relax or possibly catch up on some shut eye

Blue Well done for finding the name tapes!

CNettle ditto re: dh's worldwide

Ellie well Flown and enjoy the legs eleven etc

Hi Silvery your cj sounds very swanky! Well done! [SC draws veil over small matter of baby steps ...Wink]

Poor you Fuzzled I certainly hope you are not destined for another night on the inflatable ... Hope you can catch up on some sleep and that your ds feels better soon. And well done for cracking on with your list despite feeling grim.

Whoknows Sympathies! Dh is normally glued to F1 but we had friends around so he was denied his usual 'fix' today ..perhaps you could rustle up a cunning plan lunch invitation to coincide with the next Grand Prix???

You paint a wonderful picture of life chez Swan, Swan! (The Beethoven and the Romans and the Spanish guide bk etc etc. Your dc lead v. interesting lives!) Here's some Wine to help you recover from your stressful "negotiations" with your dh today! Missing ingred, believe it or not, was lard. Went to three supermarkets without success. (I prefer half lard/half butter in my pastry - was going to make a tart - but 'crumbled' instead.) Arf at hastalabista. Dd has taken to saying "firstable, xxx" "secondable, xxx" and "thirdable, xxx" - usually when she is (indignantly) outlining a list of complaints, making it very hard for me to keep a straight face and take her seriously, which of course bumps up the indignation levels!!

Oh didn't know the HH prom was airing this morning Oops or else we would have watched it. Hope spare room of doom not too onerous ...

Better go and load the dishwasher ...

Sorry you are still feeling after-effects of dentistry CNettle - throbbing not good - but well done for battling on regardless. Contrary to what you say, looks like you had a VERY productive day to me!

Sorry - forgotten how old your dc are. Are they at the age when they would listen to a story narrated on a DVD player to pass the hours between 5.30 am and breakfast o'clock? Or there is always that bunny clock thing that indicates "getting up time" by waggling its ears or somesuch ... . When dd went through a particularly bad phase of waking up early (claiming hunger drove her to it) I left bottled water and a banana by her bed and that sometimes bought us 20 mins or so ...

substantiallycompromised · 11/09/2011 21:05

oops, forgot to post steps for tomorrow and then think I am going to load dishwasher and crash ...nearly 10pm here

The baby-step for tomorrow, Monday 12th September, is here and totally ignorable if you haven't stepped inside the Big Tent!

The zone for tomorrow and for the week ahead (12th - 16th) is zone 3: the bathroom plus one extra room here Remember we are only meant to spend 15 mins a day in each zone.

(I'm dreading this one because my bathroom is clutter free, boudoir relatively so, which means my one extra room is going to be... oh nnnnooooooo... the home office of doom which is in such a pitiful state I may not emerge alive ...)

You can see tomorrow's mission here once the Flylady website updates itself.

However, if you want to look at the week ahead and see what missions lie in store, see here. Again website needs to update itself.

Monday (sorry folks) is home bleeuurrgghhh (home blessing) day for some of us. Details for newcomers here and here - scroll down.

See you in the morning everyone!

NickNacks · 11/09/2011 21:11

Evening all! Some of you sound very productive today. Others, like me, just happy the day is over with!! Grin

I woke up this morning with DD about 7.20am which is very respectable for a 12 month old. DH took the pee though after my generosity yesterday and didn't rise until 10.30am. He promised he'd get up early and crack on with the housework since i have not been well and he had his jolly jaunt yesterday. So I did the banging around strop thing and then when he asked what was wrong i just blew up. Not proud of how i acted because the DC's were in the next room but i shouted and cried until i lost my voice with pain and exhaustion.

And what did my arse of a husband do?

He made me a cup of tea, sent me upstairs with that and a packet of Jaffa cakes and told me to take as long as i wanted. He fed DD and put her down for a nap and then cleaned upstairs whilst i calmed down and i finished downstairs. Then he cooked roast chicken, paired about 50 socks Blush and made up the boys bunk beds.

As a result we had a successful list today!

Laundry x a million 5 done, 2 remaining but I'll keep on top of one a day to get those done
Iron uniforms not needed as i hung them up quick enough
Pack swimming and PE bags done
Mop kitchen floor done
Clean bathroom DH did it
Change DC's beds DH did them
Fix kitchen cupboard door done
Clean washing away All done -took about 2 hours!
15 mins decluttering in DD's room done
15 mins decluttering in bathroom done

DS2 also did something truly awful earlier. He pooed in the bath while DS1 was in with him. I was almost sick!

And I can't do my fecking invoices again this month because the stupid laptop/wireless printer combo is playing up. So i'm going all stoneage and i'm going to handwrite them.

hope you all had a wonderful weekend and hopefully chat tomorrow.

Night!

NickNacks · 11/09/2011 21:21

Thanks for the round up and links SC and yes I did get my Roast dinner! I don't envy you having to delve into the depths of the home office of doom! Should we send out a search party if we don't see you back here by tomorrow evening? Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/09/2011 21:37

Thanks for the roundup SC. I am not quite so grumpy now. I don't mind the F1 in principle, it's just on at a bloody annoying time, takes out the whole useful part of the day for going out etc (we are not particularly good at getting up and out of the house at weekends, so don't tend to go out mornings). Trouble is, DS would spend the entire weekend watching sport on the telly if we let him, or checking football scores on the Ipad.

I think I am cross because my favourite sport is football, when my team are on TV during the day (not very often since they got relegated!) I Sky+ it and watch it later, for the very reason of not wanting it on for 2 hours in the middle of the day when the DCs should be doing other stuff. So it pisses me off that DH won't do the same with F1. But I have told him this tonight and he says he won't watch it live from now on, I fear battles though as now DS has got to like it he will find out when they are on and will not take kindly to being told he can't watch any more.

NickNacks - DD did that poo in the bath thing to DS once, gross, gross, gross.

Fuzzled - hope you feel better in the morning.

BlueEyeshadow · 11/09/2011 22:20

Evening all.

Not a lot of flying done today, but a goodly amount of cooking, a bit of playing and have finally labelled DS1's school uniform - he starts tomorrow!

Sympathies re F1. DH says he's trying to wean himself off it because he's narked about selling half the rights to S*y... We'll see...!

Hope everyone has a good night and poorly people feel better in the morning.

OuchPassVodka · 11/09/2011 22:38

This weekend i have done fuck all. This week will either be a week of fuck all or manic craziness. RL is not good here atm. People flying out of country on short notice, others coming back to stay. Its pretty crazy. No training for at least a week either. Fecking ankle is bad again.

So I think I shall take my over tired, emotional and grumpy self to bed. hope you all have productive and reasonable weeks, with those who are illing improving

PositiveAttitude · 12/09/2011 05:24

Hmmm Crap weekend here! DH driving me insane!

ANyway, today is a new day. New start!
Was up at 4.30 sorting out the washing/ Hmm - better than 4.30am on Saturday morning when I went into my office to catch up with some work because I couldnt sleep. Shock

DD3 starting her college course this morning.

Hope all you poorly lot have had a good nights sleep and are feeling better today.

Apologies for lack of personals. I may be back later with a list.

elliepac · 12/09/2011 07:56

Lovely weekend had here.

Unfortunately it is grim this morning, rather like my mood.

I hate Mondays Grin.

substantiallycompromised · 12/09/2011 07:57

Good morning Fledglings! Hope those of you who are feeling ill, or who have families who are ill, are not having too grim a start to the morning. Here's to a quick recovery for everyone.

All feeling a bit jaded here but dh and dd off to work/school leaving me just 20 mins to dash around before I'm off too.

Ta da
morning routine inc wm, dw, s&s, boudoir swipe
written note to teacher (forgot yesterday)

To do
work
grey wash
white wash
dark blue wash
online order x 2
15 mins in home office of doom (might do that straightaway and get it over with)
exercise
quick supermarket shop
French study
home bleuurrgghh
guinea pigs
recycling
afternoon/evening routine

Hi PA Sorry about your weekend (including the 4.30 am start at work!! Shock) Good luck to your dd3 today! Hope it goes well for her.

Ouch ditto about your w/e too. And sorry to hear the ankle has flared up again. Take it steady!

Whoknows recording F1 sounds like a good plan. I hate it when the most useful part of the day is sacrificed to a sports event on the telly (except for horse sports of course Wink but my excuse is that they are on extremely rarely). I guess you could then use the recording as a bribe incentive for good behaviour [Machiavellian mother emoticon]??

Nicknacks Glad your dh came through in the end!! (Jaffa cakes very nice touch Grin) Yes please re: office of doom! In the words of Oates, I may be some time ... Wink Well done with the Flying yesterday.

Have a great start to the week everyone!

Work is finished. Time to start rescuing the house.

I knew it would be a mistake to go out for a run in this hot weather. It's taken me almost an hour of MNing to recover. Time to find my timer...

LinzerTorte · 12/09/2011 08:46

A list might help:

Empty dishwasher
Clear away breakfast things
Check calendar
Check to-do list
Make beds
Hang out washing
Ironing
Swish & swipe
15 mins in bathroom
Mission
2 min hot spot
5 min room rescue
15 mins decluttering
Make lunch
Write birthday card
Order birthday present for DD2's friend done
Order birthday present for goddaughter
Find duet books for piano lesson
Transfer dates into new Organised Mum diary and calendar (may have to wait until this afternoon, as DD2 wants to help with the stickers)
Water and vitamins

All perfectly manageable in two hours (esp. with the obligatory coffee break). Hmm

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/09/2011 09:14

Ah, Linzer - just the person. I was asking this the other week but I think you are away - is it the organised Mum Life book you use? If so, is it the large or small one? I have only ever used the calendar before, it is on my list to order it this week, but have been umming and aahing about the Life book.

Not much likelihood of hanging out washing here today, very windy and raining hard on and off.

Todays list

TaDa!
Morning routine, inc school run
Shred

To Do
Haircut
Coffee with friend
Errands in town
Help at Beavers tonight
Finish Ocado order
Remake spare bed (sheets in dryer)
Remake DCs beds (sheets in washer)

Home blessing, which includes

Empty bins
Hoover
Mop kitchen floor
Mop bathroom floor (Zone cleaning)
Clean bath, basin, toilet thoroughly
Dust selected surfaces
Wash towels and bathmats

Fuzzled · 12/09/2011 09:15

Just running in to post cause I know you like a laugh...

Just cleaned wardrobe mirrored doors to remove little DS's fingerprints (washing up liquid on a car window wiper on a pole - best buy ever as you wash one side and scrape with the other Smile )
DS, who had been playing in the other room, crawled in and - please bear in mind I had finished and was now onto dusting in another part of the room! - LICKED the wardrobe doors! HmmConfused

Do you ever worry about your children?! Grin
