Anybody interested in joining me for a flylady thread, starting with the babysteps?

I joined a thread which started in January and it made an enormous difference to the condition and calm of the household.

I have lapsed Blush and thought I would go back to basics and start again.

Anyone want to join me?

My dcs go back to school on Tuesday so I thought I would start on Tuesday morning.

Morning everyone! Planning another kitchen declutter, but a bit of back pain this morning so I'm waiting for the painkillers to kick in.

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 09:33

Hello again everyone.

Today's babystep is this one which shouldn't take up too much time

Our mission is this one which will take a little longer but you do see the benefits of it. Those of you with dcs at home, this is one where they can get involved and help out.

Cani ignore all my morning advice from yesterday as it was a complete song and dance in our house this morning. I only just got them to school on time, despite all my planning, mostly because ds was intent on playing with a small red car, rather than putting his clothes on. I second your ARRGGHH!

Done
Breakfast and vits
Showered and dressed to shoes
Packed lunches done (soup so couldn't do it last night)
Dishwasher loaded
Ds's duvet in washing machine - bit worried about this one but thought I would give it a go as it smelt a bit suspect.
Dcs to school
Fed animals as dcs failed on this front today

Still to do
Make bed (sheets in tumble dryer as need drying space for duvet)
Kelly's mission
2 min hot spot
2 min hot spot
15 min declutter
Go out on jaunt with friend (even though I have no money)

I keep meaning to ask if anyone is combining their decluttering with ebaying? I am thinking of getting going on the ebay front and wondered how tricky it was. I may have to hunt around the threads for advice on that front.

Robotindisguise · 06/09/2011 09:39

I am ensuing some stuff Carrots - it's going but I keep underestimating the P&P costs!

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 09:46

This is one of the things I am worried about. I am told there is a good leaflet in the post office about the likely prices.

Go easy on that back Robot - maybe dont bother with the cupboard fronts today.

OP posts:
Robotindisguise · 06/09/2011 09:58

Ensuing!? I meant eBaying obviously, stupid iPhone!

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 10:08

Cupboard fronts done - that didn't take that long really. I was Shock at how dirty some of them actually were though.

Morning, sink still shining:)
Spent my 15 mins yesterday evening decluttering in the kitchen instead of my bedroom, clothes are a major issue in my house and the kitchen is full of ones that haven't made their way upstairs, so I tackled them!
On the agenda for this evening then, is another 15 minutes decluttering the kitchen (i.e. attacking the clothes), then 15 minute room rescue in my bedroom, along with 2 minutes on my hotspots.
Tired just even thinking about having to do all this after a day's work, but needs must Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 11:33

Sounds good obri. I am tackling the ironing but there is a rail in my kitchen full of ironed clothes that I need to put away. I think I may make that my 15 mins today as well.

Kudo to everyone who does all this after a hard day at work too Shock

obrigada · 06/09/2011 11:58

Carrots, am normally very unorganised and if truth be told lazy person who normally just vegges (is that even a word) when I get home from work but strangely enough working through the babysteps seems to have given me a burst of energy in the evening so long may it continue Hmm

Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 13:00

Have stopped for lunch. Going fairly well this morning, have done 2 lots of washing up/ drying up and I think I have about 2 more lots to do.
All got dressed by 10.00, will have to be dressed by 8.30 tomorrow!
I think I will do some of the labeling when dh has returned from work.

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 14:38

Cani I think you need to declutter your crockery cupboard so there is just one set per person in the house. Grin Where are all your dishes coming from? It is bad enough loading the dishwasher numerous times a day. We seem to get through an enormous number in a day as well.

Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 14:49

Hi Carrots I have stopped for a coffee as I'm struggling to get going again!
Hopefully I will get a second wind and be able to get on with it soon Hmm.

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 14:55

HI Cani - I am just finishing my lunch just now. I have abandoned the ironing but have left everything sitting out in the hopes I will do some later.

I am ridiculously pleased with a new trick I tried out today. As I said, ds's bed smelt a bit suspect. I have washed the duvet etc but think it may be the mattress that was a bit ripe. I took a tub of bicarb and a sieve up there and covered the mattress and left it while I was out. I have just hoovered it and it now smells fresh and clean. Yay! I am a touch concerned by the delight I have taken in this Grin

OP posts:
Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 15:06

I haven't heard of that before! but if it works then that is good Grin.
I really need to do a bit of changing sheets etc but I have been putting it off till
ds is back to school. I thought I could put dd in her room while I do it. she sometimes plays happily in there if I have a job to do upstairs.
Today though I need to try and get washing up done a bit more, cook tea, get all ds school stuff ready and get them bathed before bed.

bessie26 · 06/09/2011 15:14

Oooh! Cool trick carrots you will have to ho have another sniff next week to check the smell hasn't returned!!

I have a cold & am struggling with a laundry mountain. DH went camping at the weekend so I have a laundry basket full of his muddy stuff, plus DD2 decided to wait until I'd changed all the bed linen before possetting all over her own & my bed Sad

I did my 2 min hotspot of the clean laundry last night, it's mainly. DHs socks left in it now!!

Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 15:41

My laundry mountain is huge! I don't think I've had an empty laundry bin for about 8 yearsSadBlush and I have more than one laundry bin.
With the help of FlyLady and support from you all I'm hoping to change that!
I have just put a load in the machine. I am going to try to do one load a day unless we get really sunny daysHmm then I will try to do more.

Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 15:45

Right, I'm off to the kitchen, catch up with you all laterSmile.

Carrotsandcelery · 06/09/2011 19:53

Good point bessie - remind me to report back in a week. Grin

Hi all, checking in for few mins, I have had a quick catch up on the thread.

I have been back at school two days and am so tired I could cry. DD hasn't slept well, I have been doing three hours of work an evening, probably another three tonight, and haven't managed to sit down until now since lunch at 2, and that was only 10 mins.
BUT on the plus side have managed to keep on top of the house, laundry is in now so hopefully be able to hang it out tonight. For the first time in ages I have empty laundry bins, Cani I made mine smaller, we have just a small one in the bedroom and a slightly larger one in the bathroom now, and as soon as they are full, or before, I have been loading the machine, then just adding to it and switching on in the evening when I get home. it means there is never so much that it gets out of hand. however, will remain to be seen as to if I can keep on top of it. We have an airer suspended in our basement though, plus a fold out one in the kitchen, plus a rotary one in the garden, which helps.

However tonight DH came in dripping wet (he cycles home, 12 miles) and its still bucketing it down, so it'll be drying inside for days. he went to have a shower and our boiler stopped working! So now have to wait till my day off thursday for it to be fixed, hopefully. I hate not being able to have a shower in the morning though, I going to feel horrible all day. Always feel so self conscious as I hate the thought of being the BO teacher!

It is mad trying to keep on top of it all, but I even managed the 15min declutter yesterday, the airing cupboard was bursting, so now I have towels to turn into cloths and some old bedding to throw out, and room to put clean stuff!

Right better get on, gave myself 15mins on the net and already gone over. I am trying to keep up with the babysteps but I have so much work to do, hopefully next week it will calm down a bit. Haven't decluttered today, as DD wouldn't let me put her down since we got in, and I have to get on with bloody data analysis of grades..yawn.

Will catch up again tomorrow hopefully, looking forward to my day off - at least if DD stops with the tantrums - I might have to pick your brains Gossip and carrots, I really don't cope well, and she's only 16months....

Good luck everyone!

shouldbeelswhere · 06/09/2011 20:43

whew I've been busy decluttering most of the day - not baby steps just got into it while DD slept. Sink still shining now day 11!

Now have piles of laundry, including duvet as DD slept for a long time and I hadn't put a nappy on her (usually she's dry during daytime sleep) :( 3rd lot of clothes today too. Usually I put a load on before I go to bed and that keeps it ticking over rather than taking over.

I don't know what flylady wrote but DS was a dream when he got in. Straight on to homework, bag straight upstairs, changed out of uniform then piano practice Shock long may it last.

Canistaysane · 06/09/2011 20:59

Hi everyone, feeling pretty tired now but have done most of the things I wanted to get done.
Missmakes I feel for you about your boiler, We have just been through a phase of water problems and have just had it fixed (fingers crossed). It's not much fun when you can't have showers etc, is it.

AngelDog · 06/09/2011 22:58

Hello everyone.

Hope you feel less tired soon, missmakes, and sympathies on the boiler front.

I've been out all day & evening but the sink is clean, dry washing is away and kitchen surfaces are wiped, which is what I care about.

To do: go to bed! I really, really, really must get better at going to bed at a reasonable hour. I managed it last night, but DS woke at 5.30 so it was a good job I did. Hmm

Canistaysane · 07/09/2011 06:38

Morning all, I've been up since 5.00am.(my choice) the dc are still in bed.
I just wanted to get up and organized for ds first day back to school. (it wont last)
Thought I'd do a bit of MNetting while I have breakfast.
AngelDog I've been going to bed at around 10.00pm this week cause dh is up at 4.00am(to get ready for work) and I sometimes get woken up by him when he is going around the house doing whatever it is he does of a morning! I would like to go to bed a bit later (maybe 10.30pm) but I need to get my sleepHmm.
I will be back later as I think dd is waking up now.

AngelDog · 07/09/2011 07:24

Apart from half an hour's doze, I've been up since 4.30 (DS's choice, not mine!)

But I've:

  • changed bath mats
  • restocked bath mats
  • put on washing machine
  • started organising dinner

Managed to be in bed by 11.30 so not great but not awful either.

GossipWitch · 07/09/2011 08:02

Normally, I have done at least a 5 min room rescue and 2 min hotspot but ds2 got taken ill yesterday and was ambulanced to a not so near hospital, to be diagnosed with tonsilitis, que three waking ups in the night and a half an hour attempt of dosing him = a much more tired than normal mummy.
