Those strange little holes that randomly appear on the front of tops???

I'm sure we've talked about them on here on numerous occasions. Did we ever solve the mystery?

The teeny tiny ones on the front of light/cotton tops, just at belly button level. Never anywhere else on the garment.

Not moths.

I'm getting bleddy fed up of them. Angry

if it's on knitted cotton (teeshirt material), it's just because the fabric is inherently thinner in the fibres.
it doesn't seem to happen with expensive clothes, only shitty cheap ones.

beachyhead · 25/05/2011 13:34

Yes, I have these, on my cheapy New Look T shirts that I wear under other things....Why there? Its not belts, as I don't wear those.....

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2011 13:35

But I wonder why only that area? Never the back or the sleeves or the neck. Only on that particular area? I don't wear belts, I wear skirts a lot, not jeans.

I think it's where the belt of my jeans rubs on my tops. Don't know what the solution is though! I need my belt to keep my jeans up, I guess I need to buy more tops...

WowOoo · 25/05/2011 13:41

It does happen to expensive clothes - it did to my sisters until she got the moth eradicator man in.
Problem solved....for now! (she wasn't convinced it was moths until the moth man found them in wardrobe)
But why in that area is still a mystery to me.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 13:42

I have it all over - but always random.

DooinMeCleanin · 25/05/2011 13:44

I have always thought it's where I get my top stuck in the zip of my coat sometimes. Probably wrong though.

tokentotty · 25/05/2011 13:48

What....??? This isn't just me and my clothes..? Was convinced it was. How can it be moth caused though occurring in uch a specific area?

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2011 13:52

I am dubious about moths only going for one area of the top. Have Googled just now and someone has come up with... car seat belts. Shock Now that would make slightly more sense as it's that specific area where the lap belt goes. Bit strange though.....

Moths in the belly button Smile

DooinMeCleanin · 25/05/2011 14:01

Can't be car seat belts. It happens to me too and I don't drive or use Taxis often. Can't be moths either cox it's happened in this house ad my last house and I got all new carpets/wardrobes etc for this house.

DiscoDaisy · 25/05/2011 14:04

Have just looked and when I'm sat down my belt is at belly button height. That explains the little holes on my tops.

CelebratedMonkey · 25/05/2011 14:07

Zips seem to make the most sense to me but I've noticed it on all sorts of tops over time.

frogs · 25/05/2011 14:09

Cleaning products on kitchen worktops. We lean against them while cooking/cleaning/washing up, and the nasty chemicals corrode our clothes.

Pootles2010 · 25/05/2011 14:12

But its a very neat little round hole, not generally wearing away! Or mine is anyway.

DaftApeth · 25/05/2011 14:16

Frogs theory is what I believe too. I also think that the chemicals weaken the fabric and the rough edge of my kitchen worktop then helps it along!

unclefester77 · 25/05/2011 14:18

It's metal buttons on jeans is it not?

Peachy · 25/05/2011 14:21

DS4 doesn;t qear jeans and gets them

I assumed tumble dry or washer catches though wouldn;t expalin area; maybe the top stretches in the washer and that's the point of most stress?

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2011 14:21

Ah, interesting about the worktops...

It's NOT jeans and belts and zips. I wear skirts with zips on the side or back. No belts. No buttons.

Fairies are trying to steal your belly button fluff. Fact.

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2011 14:42

Pesky little feckers. Grin

wow, i thought this was just me!

HazeltheMcWitch · 25/05/2011 22:37

Do any of you have cats? If I pick up my cat, sometimes his claws get caught there.

But maybe he just needs a pedicure...

vintageteacups · 25/05/2011 22:43

puppy it could only be car seat belts if you're wearign the lap belt incorrectly Grin. It should lay across your thighs/lap, not your waist/tummy.

vintageteacups · 25/05/2011 22:44

Ah yes - Frog's theory looks the best I reckon. Although, dh sometimes gets the holes in his tops and he defo doesn't spend much time leaning on the worktop - and he never ever wipes it, that's for sure!
