Those strange little holes that randomly appear on the front of tops???

I'm sure we've talked about them on here on numerous occasions. Did we ever solve the mystery?

The teeny tiny ones on the front of light/cotton tops, just at belly button level. Never anywhere else on the garment.

Not moths.

I'm getting bleddy fed up of them. Angry

Handbag straps? I tend to have hand-bags with across the body straps and wonder if they rub the clothes?

CravingExcitement · 04/06/2011 10:27

It's from smoking solid weed. You should all start smoking skunk like me Smile

Grrr I bought a lovely tshirt, washed it twice and it has 5 of these bloody holes in it. Am so peed off.

Havent heard the term 'blimp burns' in ages, takes me back to the day!

fusspot66 · 13/06/2011 22:26

I had a thought this morning. Why doesn't my dressing gown get holes in it. I'm often wiping down the kitchen in the morning. I wonder if we're back to the moths again......

doodledaisy · 13/06/2011 22:33

I've got another one on my trousers in exactly the same place as first pair. Jogging bottoms from Sainsburys if anyone's interested. So that's two pairs of trousers at the back and a couple of tops at the front. I don't understand.

cheapskatemum · 13/06/2011 22:51

I get them at belly button height in cotton & viscose tops: Sainsburys, La Redoute makes. DSs don't get them, neither does DH. I wear jeans, sometimes with a belt & assumed it was this. I don't smoke: tobacco, weed, or skunk. I do wear a sear belt, which rests at this level and I do wipe down a lot of kitchen surfaces, without wearing an apron, but they're laminate, not granite. I usually use Fairy Liquid when washing up.
Ok, now we just need somone to devise a computer programme & input all the data collected on this thread. Then the answer will be revealed!

RollingInTheAisles · 13/06/2011 22:51

I have same problem. I was wondering about the seatbelt theory. Don't think it's counter tops for me. Same problem with both wooden tops in previous house and granite here, I use natural cleaning products. Happens on expensive and cheap clothes.

Valpollicella · 13/06/2011 22:54

I get then in the shoulder area...although I am sure it is moths those little winged fuckers of Satan sent to eat my clothes

conrsikl · 13/06/2011 22:59

I only get them in Boden t-shirts

colditz · 13/06/2011 23:09

It's your belly button excreting acidic sweat.

senua · 13/06/2011 23:14

I was going to propose a theory but see that IdontknowwhyIcare has beaten me to it: washing powder reacting excessively when it comes across spots of grease or cleaning fluid or whatever else it is that you spill down your front?
DS tries to avoid all housework but despite this still has some holes in his thin T-shirts, up near shoulder height (he is nearly 6').

Pingpong · 13/06/2011 23:20

I have wee holes on some t-shirts. Most are on the back though (shoulder blade area) and some are near the cuffs (2 white stuff ones - long sleeved) I have no wee holes at belt buckle level and do not have granite work surfaces. I think it is wonky hooks on some of my bras that catch when they are in the wash.... I should chuck them really (the bras that is). They are not moth holes.

senua · 13/06/2011 23:22

It's not bra-hooks. I always do up bras before they go in the wash but I still get holes.

BeckyP54 · 20/06/2011 21:54

My mum has been having these appear in her clothes.... we have considered the hob (she changed from gas to electric to remove the 'spark' thinking it was making a beeline for her jeans button through her tops), we've considered the iron and various other things along the way but can't get to the bottom of it. I have started to get these holes appear in my clothes, but only when I'm at mum's house (once after ironing, and other times since). This last weekend my other half had holes appear in his t-shirt too. To my mind this rules out the washing machine - his clothes haven't been washed in the same machine as mum's clothes. It also rules out her iron as he hasn't been near it, and he hasn't been helping with the cooking / cleaning in the kitchen so we doubt it's the worktops. I'm sooo confused, but nice to know we're not alone with this problem! :(

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 20/06/2011 21:56

I get them mainly in my boobage area, I thought it was the fabric not being able to take the strain or my washing machine.

RollingInTheAisles · 20/06/2011 22:13

This is driving me mad, ruining all my clothes and the holes are quite noticeable.

bucaneve · 20/06/2011 22:25

Hmmm......I get no tiny holes in anything, neither does anyone else in the family, and our clothes tend to be just cheapy high street stuff. I also go in the car often, and lean against work surfaces.

I think it might be from over washing things. We tend to wash everything at 30c here ('cause of the environment) in non bio, and with no fabric softener (eczema /sensitive skin) and rarely iron (lazy).

RollingInTheAisles · 21/06/2011 12:19

That's interesting, I have just changed my washing powder from non-bio to bio because my DDs clothes are getting stained at nursery, but I think I had holes in them before, maybe not as many. I also do 30c and don't iron much and don't use softener.

What about belts Bucaneve, do you wear them with jeans?

MysteriousHamster · 30/07/2011 22:40

Noticed this recently in a favourite summer top. Don't iron unless I have to, also wash stuff gently. Rarely clean counter tops :D. Don't think it's belts.

HomemadeCommunistRussia · 30/07/2011 22:42

Yup rock burns Smile

AnyFuleKno · 30/07/2011 22:51

Another one here who gets it around the boob area.

The searbelt thing is a possibility

Moths or hot rocks.

Lifestyle dependent.
