House is a tip - anyone fancy joining me in a big tidy up?

Daisydreamer · 18/03/2011 13:18

Not all at my house, obviously :o

Am going to embark on a major declutter and tidy up as another thread made me realise I'm sick of living like this and can't expect anyone else to sort it but me!

If there's anyone else out there in the same boat thought we could encourge each other...oh, and I'm not ready for flylady yet, need to actually clear out some stuff first.

korma, 7 yrs of being ill and working mean you have a good excuse, get a cuppa and put your feet up!

Pootles2010 · 18/03/2011 13:47

I'm in. Would prefer to clean your house daisy - for some reason much prefer cleaning other people's houses Confused

Coca · 18/03/2011 13:53

Im in but do we have to start today Grin

TheSleepFairy · 18/03/2011 13:55

Oh go on then & maybe one of you can encourage my arse off this sofa and off MN to do some tidying.

I'm not ready for flylady yet either, the just made me feel lazy inadequate.

Where are we going first??

runs off to do this mornings washing up

Daisydreamer · 18/03/2011 14:03

Hello - didn't expect anyone to join as imagined most people were either already sorted or not arsed!!

I have just loaded dishwasher with breakfast and lunch stuff Blush, put a load of washing on, wiped the sides and cleaned the kitchen floor. And made a brew :o (essential after each burst of energy to regather my thoughts!)

Am going to try to surface tidy the downstairs and bathroom today as have friends over for tea. Then make a plan for the major assault!

What is everyone else's plan of action?

Korma - at least you have a reason. My excuse of 3dc's and part time work doesn't cut it when everyone else I know seems to manage.

Blimey daisy I came back to report washing up & lounge done Grin

My kitchen cupboards & shelves are bursting with crap stuff so that is going to be my first point of call.

Wardrobe is dire as is the airing cupboard.

I've got a busy weekend so I will start properly on monday.

Who fancies cyber joining me in clearing out my wardrobe on monday? after toddler group

Timbachick · 18/03/2011 14:07

I'll join in Grin

Have the house to de-clutter ... have made numerous half arsed hearted attempts but keep stopping part way Hmm

Am going to start at the top of the house and work my way down ... working on the basis that I can always surf the wave of crap down the stairs Grin

Gracie123 · 18/03/2011 14:09

I'll join in. Grabbing a bin liner and going to gather trash from around the house now.

Daisydreamer · 18/03/2011 14:11

I will - although out in the afternoon.

I respond best to being told what to do as tend to potter around otherwise - so please feel free to shout if I get distracted!

Right now I am going to move all the crap off the dining room table and sideboard and shove it in a cupboard. Then dust and mop in there.

I literally haven't got one tidy drawer or cupboard in my house, there is stuff everywhere and more clothes in what we call the (clean) washing mountain than in the cupboards. It's very embarassing Blush

I want to be houseproud :o

Pootles2010 · 18/03/2011 14:16

Maybe declutter rather than cleaning Daisy? That is my new excuse not to clean motto

TheSleepFairy · 18/03/2011 14:28

Yep I'm going to declutter first avoids cleaning
I've steam mopped my kitchen floor & hoovered downstairs.

I also respond better to being told to clear out the cupboard, not by DH though he just gets a Hmm you do it face.

LawrieMarlow · 18/03/2011 14:29

I will do it. Sometime. But not today Blush

bilblio · 18/03/2011 14:42

I'm in. Excellent timing actually. House is a tip, DD is away for the weekend. I'm off work for 10 days. I said 2011 was the year to declutter, it started well but then the early days of pregnancy got in the way. I'm signed up to Flylady but I generally read it at work then ignore it.

So... I'm going to start by putting the blankets I've washed on the line, sticking some more washing in and planting the primulas I bought last weekend while it's sunny.
I know it's not the technically the house but it'll probably rain all week knowing my luck.

Daisydreamer · 18/03/2011 15:00

Am shattered - think done more in the last hour than all week!

LawrieMarlow - the thread about judging people if their home's are mess shamed me into it! Other people seem to find it easy and I guess it's not rocket science. (love your name btw - I love those books :) )

My dh will be shocked when he gets home :o

Decluttering is the way to go,definitely, but have decided that I will mop/hoover all the floors first just to make it look better immediately.

Biliblio - lovely day to be gardening :)

AAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!! I still haven't started. Got distracted by another thread.

Right, I'm really going to do it this time...

MickyLee · 18/03/2011 15:10

Great timing for me too, if you don't mind me joining you.

Going to do evrything from now until monday evening. Tomorrow I have baby group which tends to go on until 2ish and going to Sunday to a friends so thought I would write a list and tick if off bit by bit when at home.

Two big problems though - DD and DS 3 and 1!!

greensnail · 18/03/2011 15:13

Can I join you all too? I'm stuck at home as DD2 has chicken pox so should probably try to do something productive rather than just sitting on my bum feeling fed up.

House majorly needs decluttering in every room. Will try to do some kitchen cupboards this afternoon to get started but will join you for the wardrobe clearout on monday thesleepfairy

mistlethrush · 18/03/2011 15:15

I really should join you. I can't get to the cupboards in at least one room let alone tidy them... Blush However, currently at work [sneaking on for a quick 5] and don't know how or when I will be able to summon up enough determination to actually start on anything... Although i know I'll feel better when its tidier. I think I might have to take a day or two off so that I can at least make a good start (then will just have to keep off mn long enough to do something Grin)

Gracie123 · 18/03/2011 16:02

Okay.

Managed to put on a load of laundry, pick up all the fridge magnets in the living room/hall and return them, fill two tesco bags with trash and chuck them, empty the nappy bin...

...the DS (3) woke up and DD (0.8) demanded feeding.

Guess I'll have to break for a bit Grin Brew

Stickwithit · 18/03/2011 16:14

Just thought I would post my experience (apologise to those for who (whom?!?) a child free day is not an option.

Our home is small so clutter easily bacomes a problem. After several false starts at getting sorted DO agreed to take DS out for a whole day so i could have a huge go at it. They left at 8am and then went to GP's in the afternoon and returned at 7pm!!

I banned myself from mumsnet (although a thread with encouragement like this would have been great). I have a huge clear out as it dawned on me that I could not tidy as there was simply too much clutter.

I got rid of LOADS of stuff, I was ruthless. There was much swearing, trips to the charity shop and the tip.

But it worked, the clutter has gone. I have storage, I have space!!

The best thing is that it now takes a short amount of time to do a big clear up at the end of each day because everything has a home and there is room in cupboards and drawers to put things away.

Now I just have to train myself not to attract any more clutter......

Stickwithit · 18/03/2011 16:16

I apologise for the typos- I am so excited that I have finally cleared up that i am typing far too fast.

And breathe....

sinat54 · 18/03/2011 16:41

I sooooo need this thread!! Daisydreamer- i 2 have various laundry baskets of clean washing that need putting away...OH suggested a basket 4 each person-ummmm no-as that means 5 laundry baskets to pre-sort before they have any hope of getting put away!!
We need/want to move this year but can't even think of letting estate agents take pics, unless i can photoshop them!!

bilblio · 18/03/2011 16:47

Plant are in... and even watered... I tend to forget that bit.

The washer didn't like having 2 blankets in it and refused to spin, so I had to take them out and spin them 1 at a time several times. as a result I've got 2 not very clean blankets drip drying on the line which will probably end up being washed again separately. Lesson learned.

I'm now going to tackle DD's treasure chest of art things... and the associated stuff that gather around it and maybe hoover if there's time before tea.

Going out to a gig at 6 so need to rest too or I might flake out by 8 in a corner and miss the band. Hmm
