A different coloured towel for each family member?

swanriver · 15/12/2010 10:32

When I set up house Hmm I had 7 matching terracotta towels. AIBU to now buy a different set of towels for each of three kids and husband so we get a bit less confused? Is this normal?? Or should they just match the bathroom decor??

We have different coloured towels for each person. Ds's are black, I have brown (which did match the room at the time of purchase) the others have different colours. guests are all the same boring white colour. It stopped arguements about whos towel was whose. and the getting into shower knowing you had a towel on the back of the door to discover someone had taken it and collected towels in their room thus being non in the wash or for getting dried. I like it. But i think it depends on if you are trying to have a themed bathroom.

I've been thinking about this, and I think different colours are the way to go. Makes life much easier. My parents just had the one colour and I can still remember the feeling of jumping out of the shower, grabbing what I thought was my towel, and finding it was damp in places . Definitely better to have one each.

overmydeadbody · 15/12/2010 10:39

Really?

Why not just use whatever towel is in the bathroom and change them regularly? Or does that not work with lots of kids?

Actually, thinking about it now, with five people in the house, you probably want to know your towel is clean right?

SimplySparkling · 15/12/2010 10:40

Hi swan. Smile I think a different set of towels for each of the kids is a good idea. Our bathroom is white and neutral coloured but I'm more inclined to match towels to each person's bedroom. It does make life much easier.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/12/2010 10:41

We all have different coloured towels. The idea of using someone else's towel just makes me cringe.

They are a real mishmash of colours but given the state of our bathroom, odd towels are the least of our worriesXmas Grin

With 2 messy teenagers in the house who never rehang towels I am resorting to getting individually colour coded towels.

They leave theirs on the floor and come and nick mine!

Lazy fuckers obvioously havnt been well brought up Xmas Wink

We have different coloured towels...saves a lot of arguments! Unfortunately, they do not co-ordinate with my bathroom but I don't really care!

twirlymum · 15/12/2010 13:20

Val Denton: Then there's the towels. White for hands, brown for feet, green for torso, thighs and seat. And in the cupboard beneath the stair...

We do. I wouldn't dream of using anyone else's bath towel.

ImeldaM · 15/12/2010 14:49

We used to use all same colour towels until once when DSis was visiting, DP used the towel she had been using (he tends to grab whichever is nearest Hmm) and am sure she thought 'yuk' so now he uses a particular colour. The rest of us manage to remember which one is 'ours'.

AnnoyingOrange · 15/12/2010 14:53

we have different coloured towels and we hang them up in different places too.

BigTillyMincepie · 15/12/2010 14:56

I have never thought about doing this - we just use whatever's there!

If I went to colour-coded, DD would never have a dry towel as she leaves them all in a wet heap in her room till I shout pick them up and put them away.

lucykate · 15/12/2010 15:00

we all have our own towels. those who say why not just use whatevers there, one case of threadworms in the house would soon highlight that own towels are the way to go Wink

mamaloco · 15/12/2010 15:03

Always had different colours or patterns (same colour is OK if you can identified them)

theywillgrowup · 15/12/2010 22:38

crikey we just use what evers there, obviously my standards are very low,but i have a friend and she washes her towels EVERY day isnt this abit OTT or am i totally skanky

trumpton · 15/12/2010 22:51

We all have different coloured towels. We all hang them on back of bedroom doors or on rads to dry. If anyone leaves wet towel on floor it stays there. If left on bed I throw it on floor.Grin

isitmidnightalready · 15/12/2010 22:54

We use whatever is there, and change them every day or two when they get a bit damp. Towels are such a pain in the bum to dry once washed - I always go for cheap thin ones that dry quicker. My mum's very plush thick donations to our towel collection seem to take forever to dry. I personally wipe my intimate areas on toilet roll to save the towel. Too much information?

pooka · 15/12/2010 22:56

The kids (5 and 7) have White towels. Whichever comes to hand. Ds2 is a baby and has his own small White towels. Dh tends to use the dark blue. I use the light blue. But since I tend to wash towels after each use, wouldn't really matter if he used mine or i used the kids ones.

JulesJules · 15/12/2010 22:57

We all have different coloured towels.

Mine are the nicest Xmas Grin but then I do wash them all...

Shallishanti · 15/12/2010 23:00

well, I have embroidered initials on ours- honestly, was driven to it by teenagers

WhatsWrongWithYou · 15/12/2010 23:00

I remember reading a handy hint somewhere, Anthea Turner poss? Sew a different coloured loop of bias binding in the corner of each towel, so you can hang the towel from it and it's colour-coded for each person.

I think it's a great idea.

We just use whatever's there Blush.

JiminyCricket · 15/12/2010 23:03

I have JUST bought different colours each - blue turquoise cream and white - with own flannels too. Have two sets. I thought I was weird, this thread is v ery affirming :) Its nice but we fight over whose gets hung on the radiator.

Our towels all match, but we have our own hooks to hang them on so they don't get mixed up. Only DS who is 2.5 though, so we aren't really at the leaving towels on the bed stage yet Grin
