A different coloured towel for each family member?

When I set up house Hmm I had 7 matching terracotta towels. AIBU to now buy a different set of towels for each of three kids and husband so we get a bit less confused? Is this normal?? Or should they just match the bathroom decor??

Own towels here too, but the colour changes with each change for washing. I used to wash towels afte one use, but having kids and no time changed that.
Ds drops his on the floor/bed and I've given him his own hook now, but it mostly seems pointless.

coordinated towels in the bathroom are for decoration not use.

Stack of towels in airing cupboard used by anyone, washed after every use.

Our bathroom is black and white so we also have black and white towels. Dh has white and I have black. DC has their own towels with cartoon pictures on them.

My towel is usually slightly damp after using so I just hang it back up in the bathroom, Dh's is soaking wet (he is as hairy as am ape!) so pop his on the washing line for half an hour most the time.

I have far too much washing to do already to wash them after every use!! I sometimes have two showers a day if I have done my workout DVD. I wash mine twice a week. Hand towels and tea towels get changed daily though :)

lynli do you really have towels in the bathroom just for decoration?!!

I stayed at someones house who did that once. She was like "this is your room, the cushions on the bed are just for show so you can take them off when you sleep, and the en-suite bathroom is here. The towels in there are for show too. So your towel is just on the radiator in the bedrrom" I was like Hmm

gosh you lot must do so much washing. I work on the theory that when you dry yourself on a towel you have just come out of the bath or shower and hence are clean. So tend to hang them up to dry for reuse. When they start to look tired then they get washed.

I have my own towel - and DH had his - which got so old it fell apart. I got him a nice new towel - which he never uses - he has started to use mine Angry. Hmm - must remember to tactfully suggest hands off.

DC use whatever is going and care not whether it is already damp or skanky, or just used by their brother.

As for colours - they are all random - depending on what was easiest to buy when needed.

Do I win the "don't much care" stakes ?!

The dcs have different colour towels, but they all co-ordinate with the colour scheme in their bathroom (grey, magenta and pink). Dh and I have the same colour, but always hang them in the same place in our bathroom so we know which is which.

Using someone else's towel - bleurgh.

Do I win the "anal about towels" stakes?

What a fab idea to give each family member their own towel sets, I will organise that for them now, we mainly have white, and I have some blue towels and odds and ends cartoon/beech pink type one's, so I will distrubute them around the family and store them in thier own rooms with relevant colour!

CarGirl · 19/12/2010 19:42

We have our own towels, mine matches the bathroom and lives in there on the heated towel rail, everyone else has theirs hanging on the bannisters to dry Grin

I also bought striped towels for hand towels because they hide the grubby stains best even though we use a new towel every 2-3 days (too many young children in the house!)

Also fresh flannels every day for those who use them.

ChippingIn · 19/12/2010 19:43

Growing up we each had our own colour - it's the way forward, you can used shades if you like them co-ordinated :)

marriednotmulled · 19/12/2010 19:58

We share general towels but hang them in specific places so no-one uses anyone elses.

Colour coded flannels though.

Great thread, was starting to think we were a bit strange Grin

We have different coloured towels but they don't belong to anyone. They just go in a pile in the cupboard. If it's used by a DC it will be dried and pit to reuse (in a particular place so they only get reused once!) if it's been used by DH or i then it goes in the wash.
