Oh Plum that is sad :(:( I can't bear sad things at the moment, they pull me down too far if that makes sense. I can feel my mind reeling back from the awfulness of how that poor woman must feel :(

JKS - :) that is lovely. DH and I feel more romantically about the day we met than we do about our wedding anniversary, although the dates are only a week apart so it is just a nice mushy week for us Grin We met and got together at the beginning of November, and by now (ie.6 weeks later) had already decided to move in together and get married. We bought ourselves new Barbour jackets to go walking in at the weekends Grin. And then on Boxing Day he turned up at my parents with diamond earrings for me - and I hadn't got him anything else because we'd agreed not to!

Wasting - I am now imagining your DH something like the Milk Tray man, turning up unexpectedly under the cover of darkness and disappearing before dawn. How romantic! Grin

Purple I hope your day has improved.

DS is asleep - hurrah! Poor little sausage just suddenly hit a wall when we were in the checkout queue at Sainsbury's and was wailing his little heart out, and the bloody (old) woman in front was sooooo slow - faffing with loads of bags 'oh no not this one, I can't put bananas and onions in the same bag'. WTF? I nearly rammed her with my trolley in my rage.
Anyway we are home, he is in bed and I have peace and quiet and a cuppa.

Day ok here. Relatively productive. Have made cakes for school fayre tomorrow.

JKS, spookily, your post made me realise its close to the anniversary of DH and I meeting too. We met 15 years ago too, but on 15 December, so 15 years next Wednesday!

Plum, those stories are very Sad. I couldn't imagine being without DH, even though he's away a lot, I always know he is coming back :)

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 09/12/2010 16:44

Xmas Grin Ali I now have pictures of Wasting lying in bed with her ds & a box of choccies with a sneaky smile on her face,
Wasting your dh must have knew you needed a wee pick me upXmas Smile Saturday isn't too far away

right on with dinner

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 09/12/2010 16:49

Yeap Purple, one girl rang to say her dad died 10 years ago and her mother has never been the same, BUT her mum had also had 2 children die many years ago and her mum said losing her husband was worse,
The girl couldn't understand it as a mother herself, naturally, but her mum said when her children died she had her dh to support her, and her him, but obviously when he died she didn't have that same support, think that one got me too (if that makes sense)

They are sad but also help put things into perspective too I think

anonymousbird · 09/12/2010 17:20

Cor, love all these stories!! We met almost 14 years ago (in January), both were in long term relationships. Those both ended, so we have been together 13, married 12 and a bit! We were a "it'll never last" Xmas Hmm whirlwind engagement, especially as there is quite an age gap. "Dated" for 6 months, got engaged, then married 4 months later.

DS thumped another boy at school today Sad. He is such a placid child, I've never known him hit anyone (other than his sister). Am mortified. And the ridiculous thing is, there was some kind of dispute in the playground over a football and two other boys were having ructions, but my DS decided to thump someone who was apparently an innocent bystander??

I know the mum quite well, going to phone her shortly to make sure her boy is ok and to apologise again. The school made my DS write a sorry note apparently....

Greetings fellow festive slatterns. Thanks for all your kind messages. This is about the first time I've felt up to posting properly!

Loving reading all your romantic stories, making me feel all gooey inside Grin

Anya doing well and DH being amazing - he is my hero. I was so exhausted last night that he stayed up ALL NIGHT with Anya, giving her little cups of FF as my milk hadn't yet come through properly. I took over at 6.15am and at the first feed of the day it was clear that my milk had finally started to come through. One happy baby, one happy mum, one passed-out dad.

FIL is holding Anya now, not felt too crowded by anyone yet. My mum's here and she's a total God-send, just popped out to get some nipple shields for me.

Anyway, my list for now is:

Keep resting with feet up
Take care of nipples - Lansinoh
Make sure DH knows how much I love him and how amazing he's being
Eat, drink, sleep

JustKeepSparkling · 09/12/2010 17:53

Yay Comtessa, you are doing so well, keep going with the feeding, esp if milk is coming in or you'll get engorged and that is painful! And def recommend Lansinoh, even if your nipples feel better, keep whacking it on. (it's also good for chapped lips and dry skin :) )

Anon - we were not expected to last either. starting off as a 'holiday romance' we moved in together once i finished uni 6 months later, lived apart for my PGCE and starting teaching, but then back together, we didn't get married for ages though, met Dec 1995, married May 2004. When we told people we were engaged in Dec 1994, people were like 'well about time!' Xmas Grin

Hi Comtessa! Bless your DH, what a super star.

But remember YOU are a superstar too Xmas Smile.

Clearly, made for each other.

All together now.. Ahhhhhhhh.

anonymousbird · 09/12/2010 18:16

Spoke to mum of the boy DS thumped, she was very sweet and completely cool about it. I stumbled through apology and she was very very nice indeed... Bless her. She does have 3 boys though, so I suspect more used to general rough and tumble... that said, there is no excuse for an out and out headbutt. Very embarrassed. Not going to tell DH, he will hit the roof, we've dealt with it and moved on.

OK, getting ahead here. Tomorrow, I need to "nail" Christmas as it were.

So, my day tomorrow is:

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 09/12/2010 18:47

Nail Christmas

Tomorrow start Christmas[eek]

I think some people just like to see flaws in any relationship, dh and I have been together since we were 16, so of course we were too young etc, some people actually told us we should split up and see the world Hmm,
Now we have been together for over half our living lives and I can honestly say he still makes my heart flutter when he walks in a room or even rings me up, he feels the same, some people are too quick to pour cold water over that

Right whos next for their story? Mini??

Right dcs in jammies, off to ice cake

PlumBumandBaublesMum · 09/12/2010 18:50

anon it is embarrassing when they do something really out of the blue, sounds like your ds is like mine, not a real rough and tumble, but the older he is getting the moreladdish his behaviour is becoming , its abit scary, where's my baby??

awastingamanger · 09/12/2010 20:59

Evening!

Yes, having DH here for a bit definitely gave me a boost, and I've had a great productive day too. Productive while still having fun with DS which is the balance I'm struggling to find atm. I am really looking forward to having him here for a few weeks.

DH and I met through a friend nearly 12 years ago and were just friendly for a few months til we snogged in the taxi queue after student night. Grin
He moved in with me a few months later, we got engaged a few months after that, but didn't get married til 4 years ago.

Comtessa, good to hear from you, and glad you're all well. Smile

I'm making progress on Christmas but not enough to write a proper list. Grin

Next -

  • CD copying continuing
  • catch up on MN doing
  • knitting
  • hang up washing
  • put all pressies back in hidey corner, having assessed them earlier
  • sleep
Merryhohohomammoth · 09/12/2010 21:40

Ah 'tis along story Slatterns. Rocks in chair whilst knitting. I had known present DH vaguely as he is the brother of one of my closest friends. My marriage was crumbling and he was engaged and ready to go to Australia. That went wrong, he stayed, we got to be friends, interested in some similar things, we propped each other up. I finally got my own place and DH found a girlfriend, that didn't work, and eventually he move to where we are now and I moved 6 months later. All this took about 3/4 years I think. I was really not interested in being married again. But DH was very persistent. So here we are 12 years later. My DH knows that my DCs always come first, and is very supportive of all of them. We have a bit of an age gap, he is 7 yrs younger.

Merryhohohomammoth · 09/12/2010 21:45

Meant to say. Well done Comtess and your DH.
Am trying not to think of xmas yet, definately not at the nailed stage. By any means. At all. Even.
hope the cake turns out well.
Plum I have my christmas cake to do. What's easy and will lokk fab?
Am now busy making the masks for paty tomorrow...Another opportunity to wear new shoes. Oh be still my beating heart..

Merryhohohomammoth · 09/12/2010 21:46

THats party. not paty Hmm

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/12/2010 22:43

Mini - that is lovely :) Enjoy wearing your shoes again!

Comtessa - you sound so so happy Grin Sounds like you are doing brilliantly, those first days and weeks are hard work especially if you don't get off on the right foot with feeding. Glad your milk is in - from here you can't go far wrong if you shove a nipple in her mouth whenever she cries! :)

Wasting - the balance is hard isn't it? It's what I struggle with.
Will DH be working while he's at home, or will you have him full time so to speak?

DH and I got a few Hmm faces from people when we got together. He was still married although had been separated from his ex for a year and the divorce was already underway. I know that my parents were v.v.anxious about it all, especially because he is 7 years older than me. All turned out well though Grin

Quite a productive day in the end, am shattered now though and in bed :)
Tomorrow there is a taster session at DS' preschool which I must take him to. Am v.nervous for some reason, almost feels like starting school myself!

Morning all. Mini - you are so creative! Making your masks! Can you please come here and make two christmas hats for my DC for their school christmas lunch next week?? Pretty please?! I am utterly hopeless in the "making anything" department. DH, luckily, has quite a creative and practical streak so can rustle up things so much better and quicker than me...

Plum - was thinking of you this morning, as Peter Kay was on the Chris Evan show all morning - you went to see him didn't you?? Was he good????

DS's teacher is a peach. After yesterday's "incident" I spoke with her this morning. She was very sweet and said she thought DS was a bit low and tired, I agreed. No excuse of course for thumping, but she was so caring and concerned that he is ok as well, even though he was the perpetrator. Phew. Relief. Quiet weekend is needed I think. Some nice "getting ready for christmas" type stuff will really cheer him up. Had the loveliest cuddle with DS for about 15 minutes this morning, he adores a cuddle - long may it continue!

Wow. Loads of posts, am going to struggle to keep up with all.

The OH stories are lovely. Our is that DH and I met at a christmas ball. He had been at uni with one of my friends but he had finished the year before and came back for the party. I was just getting over a long relationship and he was lovely. It was a one night stand Blush that went a bit wrong in that we are still together 15 years later!!! He said he knew I was the one immediately and he proposed to me on my birthday 6 months later. I was a bit unsure because I'd been with my ex for 4 years and because we were only 21 which seemed way too young. So we waited a while and got engaged the following Christmas. It was definitely the right thing, we are very happy. Grin

Comtessa, glad you are happy and that DH is being great.

Morning :)

Feel rubbish again today, despite a really good sleep last night and a lie-in until 8.15! So I rang the pre-school just now to say that we wouldn't go to the taster, and the woman seemed a bit mystified that we had been invited to this one, as it is really for children starting in Jan/Feb and DS won't go until after Easter. There will be another one at some point next term, or we can just drop in whenever and join in with a normal session. So that's fine, although I'm a bit Hmm about the admin.

purple - yes we were a one-night stand that 'went wrong' too! Blush All these stories are so lovely Xmas Smile

Anon - love the name! Glad school are being good about it. This term can be a nightmare I think - it is long and then there is a excitement of Christmas looming which I think can send the best behaved children a bit bananas!

Wasting - fingers crossed he doesn't have to work, that would be lovely! :)
