Christmas dinner with group of collegues, today. Travelled with a friend with 4 wheel drive. thank god. we had to leave early cos of snow. and eventually made it home. Friend bravely drove past loads of cars stuck on hill. So list not moved on much. Still snowing.

Toys everywhere but DH is coming home early today, yey, so we should be able to go to local shops Christmas thing.

Shocking here re roads etc. Even the big Defender didn't enjoy the ride... was pleased to be back home just as it was about to get dark to find a woman bleeding profusely from the head in my living room - she collided her car with the telegraph pole just outside our house about 5 minutes before I got home and DH did his dashing knight act and rescued her..... .

She was in a terrible state to start with, but after about 20 minutes, a friend of hers who is a nurse turned up and helped her with the wound. Also, just as luck would have it, her dad drove past about two minutes after it happened, recognised her car, so of course stopped to find out what had happened.

All she was worried about, bless her, was traumatising the children with all the blood. The DC thought it was all rather exciting (which I had to apologise for!).

Amazingly, she was only slightly hurt and no one else was.. Phew. She gave us both massive hugs!!!

Wow Anon, such drama! My DS1 would be talking about it for weeks!

Our phone and broadband have been out since Friday, nightmare!

I got to town and the Post Office on Saturday though. All my cards are done, parcels posted and nearly all the presents wrapped.
All I need to do now is sort our exactly what food we're having over Christmas and write up a Christmas Day cooking schedule, for my first ever cooked-by-me Christmas dinner!

Morning! Having stayed home yesterday, DH made an early start to get into London, so I am up! Going to reinstate my list, just to keep me in check as not much has happened in the last few days and I don't want a bunfight rush to tidy up on Christmas Eve...

DC were just eyes agog at all that happened, couldn't quite believe it. And of course they are so LOUD. DH told them to stay out of the room the lady was in, so they greeted me in the hall saying "MUMMY, THERE IS A LADY BLEEDING IN THE LIVING ROOM" and "DOES SHE NEED AN AMBULANCE MUMMY" and "IS SHE GOING TO BE OK" - all the kind of comments you need when you've just had a car crash .

No internet is truly awful!

JKS - the heating thing is difficult. Our "usual" house the heating system (now being replaced!) was very clunky and tapped all night. DH ended up lagging the pipes so that even though they still knocked each other, they at least did it quietly... In our rented house, they are very quiet and I simply turn the thermostat down when we go to bed so it ticks over, but the duvet does most of the work..

Ladies, appreciate your ideas on this. Not talking a huge amount of money to spend fritter away but we had a nice surprise on something to do with the house being much cheaper than expected so don't want to blow the lot, as naturally there will be something else that costs more than expected, but a few extra quid towards christmas, something nice for the DC as a surprise... bit stuck for ideas.

JKS, financially and anti-condesationally (v. important!) it is better to have the heating on overnight, but a little cooler if you can stand it. Ours was on full last night and we managed to keep the temp above 16 degrees.

Oh balls, it just started snowing again!

Wasting waitrose magazine has a cooking timetable in it, would ofer to send it to you, but seems unlikely to get to you in time to be helpful!

JKS i had the same problem with DH last year when i was pg, i wanted the window open but he was too cold, i just don't think they understand how hot you get when pg.
Heating goes off overnight here and is a bit on the chilly side, but DD's eczema can't really stand the heating tbh.

Anon we have got the dcs pyjamas for christmas eve this year. Got DS some from Primark as he is unlikely to get much wear out of them, and spent £16 on a pair from next for DD (more than i usually would) that came with fairy wings, wand and crown.
We are also having a nice meal for us, chicken breasts stuffed with stilton and wrapped in thin streaky bacon, saute potatoes, green veg and cranberry sauce, and a bottle of wine.

DS is feeding loads again so feeling drained. Managed to get the kitchen cleared before bed last night though, which helps. Hopeefully DH will continue to have a quiet week so i can get jobs done while he is home.

May have to agree to stick with constant heating then, boo. But will turn it down a long way when i go to bed i think.

Anon - how dramatic! Poor woman, hope she is ok!
I was going to suggest extra yummy food for Christmas Eve, you and DH treat yourselves to extra good wine and some port if you like it? My Mum always does a whole salmon on Christmas Eve, just poached with new potatoes, broccoli and peas and white sauce. It is delicious, but not heavy at all so you don't feel full already when it comes to Christmas dinner.
A new board game to all play together?

JKS - we put our heating on low overnight, mainly so that DS' room doesn't get too cold. Our room stays warmer I think because it has both of us in it.

Wasting - the key is to prep as much as possible the day before, so get the turkey dressed and ready to go in the oven, peel all the veg etc etc. You can take the turkey out to rest about an hour before you want to eat and rest it under foil and a tea towel to free up the oven for potatoes etc if you need to.

Hey all. 4 sleeps to go...!

I have my boots . DH was a star going to collect - about an hour each way. I was too nervous to open them for ages - I ordered two pairs because I loved the long lace up ones but wasn't sure they would fit my calves. After such a long wait, I was sure I'd be disappointed. BUT - they fit - yay!! They are lovely and not only that but DH said he thinks I should keep both those and the reserve pair. They are quite sensible, timberlands which will be really good for wearing out and will mean the longer, fancier ones will not get spoilt. So a happy ending to the saga. Apparently UPS admitted to him that they were in a huge "lost boxes" mountain so I don't think they would ever have come!!!

Anon - what a scary story, glad the lady was ok but at your DCs!!

Merry - what a nightmare with Ocado. I had to cancel our order which was due to come on Sunday as I wasn't sure we'd make it home due to the snow. We braved Sainsburys yesterday because we don't have a local waitrose.

ugh, have just looked in my oven, it is filthy - i blame DH and his homemade pizzas!

F feeding again he is 4m now and despite my best intentions he may be started on puree soon. It is good that it is making me lose weight, and that he is ebf, but i am feeling really drained, literally feels as though he is sucking the life from me! Plus DD is feeling very put out because i am always feeding.

And yes i am eating and drinking enough, i am completely shocked that i am still losing weight despite the amount i am eating - i am finishing DD's lunch as i type! The cafe lady remembered me and the group i was with, and that it was a pot of tea so i am v glad i went back, was only £1.20 but still, i go there during term time most weeks and had to sort it out. As well as having an over-active conscience!!

DH has gone skiing again . DS and I watching Peter Pan. DS poorly with a cold.

Been snowing all day so far but only ickle flakes. Cars still going past so roads still ok Mini! Fingers crossed that you can get here. Am going out to get a turkey in a bit just in case you don't make it. V annoying about your Waitrose delivery.
