December's Fledgling Flyers: Christmas time, swish and swipe and wine, flyers sing to the fat fairy rhyme.

Welcome to the December Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to DEM/DID who looked after us last month and did a fantabulous job

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

It's finally finished! Am now looking forward to a large glass or three of wine tonight. Xmas Grin

Flying-wise, I have put some washing on (and forgotten about it), swished & swiped with one glove (my normal pair has mysteriously vanished and I only had one spare) and made the beds.

As far as preparing for Christmas is concerned, I have:
started writing a letter to be enclosed with a card to a friend in Australia (when I should really have posted her card by now)
received two parcels from Amazon
received (but not yet had time to open) my first Christmas card (yes, I know that doesn't really count)

I'd also hoped to write some Christmas cards with DD2 this afternoon (DD1 isn't keen on writing, whereas DD2 loves to help), but she's just been picked up by a friend.

Still to do:
Rescue washing
Afternoon routine
Get DD1 to practice for concert
Pick up DD2
Go to DDs' piano concert
Wine

Deck xposted with you before - I thought I was talking to myself. Hope you got your car out OK. I have been organised enough to put a small bottle of lock defrosting liquid (or whatever it's called) in my bag, but inevitably haven't needed to use it.

swan I don't envy you having to fit in three lots of homework and music practice - I struggle with two and the DDs are out of school by 12.45 pm at the latest.

Toffee That's one impressive list! So does bicarb of soda work well? I read how good it was somewhere and bought two or three pots last time I was back in the UK with lots of good intentions, but they are still in the cellar. Xmas Blush

LinzerChristkindlmarkt · 07/12/2010 14:45

My MIL likes to have her lunch at 11.30 - which I can cope with now, but it wasn't so great pre-DC when we wouldn't have breakfast until 9 or 10. Xmas Shock

PlentyOfParsnips · 07/12/2010 15:40

Hello all. Never quite made it onto here yesterday. My MN time got diverted by a hideous train-wreck of an AIBU thread. Today I've been visiting my mum who slipped over at the weekend and didn't tell anybody Xmas Shock. She's fine really, just a little cut above her eye but because she's on daily aspirin, her entire face turned into a massive (painless) bruise and she's too embarrassed to go out Xmas Sad

anyway, so I am horribly behind with chores ...

hang washing
washing up
shine sink
wipe and sweep kitchen
change beds
hot wash in
cat tray

That'll do for now. Hope everyone's OK, will catch up with chat later.

What's for dinner????? Lasagne!

ToffeeChristmascake · 07/12/2010 16:17

Add to above list - make angel costume for DS2 by tomorrow Xmas Shock! Thought I had another week to make it, but I must have misread the letter (along with several other equally panicky-looking mums at the school gate). Sewing was probably my very worst subject at school (closely followed by maths), so I am not looking forward to this.

Linzer - congratulations on finishing your work! Enjoy your well-deserved celebratory drink(s) tonight. Am shocked at your MIL wanting lunch at 11.30. That's even earlier than my DC when they were toddlers. What time does she get up - 4am?

Plenty - Xmas Sad at your poor bruised mum. Hope she recovers soon.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 07/12/2010 17:30

Evening. I am just standing still long enough to draw breath.

Have done swimming lessons.
Fed ds tea and half way through teatime stuff/bedtime routine.

Ds is having an early night and i am popping out very briefly to the local christmas fair. Then as the abs seem to be kicking in and i am getting a little hyperactive I shall probably aim to cull the clutter of laundry and put the to be rehomed boxes of stuff away.

I am reading through but the Ab's have tipped the balance of coping with the steroids and life is getting a bit [confusing] in my brain Blush thankfully as ds is much calmer since speaking to school on monday, life has been actually a lot less shouty crazy here today which has been very pleasant.

PositiveAttitude · 07/12/2010 18:41

Just REALLY need to vent/rant/ not sure what, but bbasically pull myself together before I self combust!!

DD2 has had her lip pierced!! Xmas Shock

Oh my goodness, what would a good mum say to her?

She is 18, so its up to her, but I just never thought she would!!!!
Oh my goodness, I do think I may be being a bit precious, but Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness!!!!!

optimistletoemumma · 07/12/2010 19:04

Calm down PA - it could be worse! You'll get used to it and if it's the worst bit of rebellion then I'd welcome it with open arms!!!
At least she hasn't had anything more permanent.....Is this helping at all?? Thought not!!!

Today:
rested my poor viral conjunctivy eye before going to school with sunglasses on! I told the DC there that I was wearing them because I am such a good teacher! Rather a lot of Hmm from Year 6 and Grin from Reception and Shock when I took them off and showed them my 'poorly eye'!!!

I need to have 2 good eyes as it is my carol groups first 'do' tomorrow night and I need to be able to see the music!!

A few loads of washing done, tea made for 3 of us Sad a fire lit and some Christmas cards sent - that's it!!!

DS1 just texted to say today's interview was much harder 'but everyone said the same'. Don't know when he's coming home yet or whether he is going to be interviewed by another college. Just have to wait and see. Toffee - I think we find out literally on Christmas Eve (great!)
Sorry about your mumPlenty

optimistletoemumma · 07/12/2010 19:05

not 'such a good teacher', 'such a cool teacher'-doh!

elliepac · 07/12/2010 20:25

Evening people,

Afraid I am going to have to give the round-up a miss tonight as have a spectacular amount of work to do. Will post the links and catch-up in the morning.

elliepac · 07/12/2010 20:42

Thank you so much mrsd, wouldn't be a problem if you ladies weren't talking so damn much Grin.

Dolanette · 07/12/2010 20:53

Hi to optimistletoemumma, fellow teacher and flyer! And everyone else.

PA agree with optimisticmumma, it could be worse! She could have got a tattoo of Tweety smoking a joint!! My friend's sister did this! She regrets it now!

Tuesday is our busy day. DD1 has school, drama and piano! DS better now (fingers crossed) so back to pre-school tomoro after week absence.
He has to get ready for his Xmas concert! My little fly-baby will be gone, he is actually a great little helper!!

Today
Swept Sitting Room/Dining Room/Kitchen
Put on load of laundry
Put on DW, forgot to last night
Went food-shopping

Met my friend for a cuppa Smile

PositiveAttitude · 07/12/2010 21:02

DD has just tried to get up to bed before dh comes in from work. No way!!! I made her sit down here to face the music!!

Yes, I realise I am probably over-reacting, I am just shocked! Yes, a tattoo would have been worse!

optimistletoemumma · 07/12/2010 21:40

Not over -reacting, PA! It's easy for us to say.....Grin

swanriver · 07/12/2010 21:45

Done
rang bank (in credit SmileShock
made carrot soup
made cheesy potatoes
another telly free afternoon, (although we did watch ...Cbbc Big Performance Rule the World. singers were bad well I think my kids are a lot better Grin)
cue children singing very loudly their version of Take That on sofa
homework x 3
no music practice Blush
went out to elderly ladies' local event for 1 hour -had to leave early to come back to say goodnight to dd but....after putting her to bed once...she has come down again!!!!Arrgh

[fangry snotty, now refusing to go to bed and desperately tired at same time. Poor dh is fed up and trying desperately to watch a nice film without being interrupted by maurauding children.
Have just put her back to bed, and stopped ds1 coming down too...

It really doesn't work going Out does it Sad I think I remember Christmas was like this last year, everyone getting more and more tired and badtempered as term ratcheted up the festive pace....

Opt what are your choir singing?
Deck glad things are calm Envy
Parsnips oh poor mum

Bob hope you are alright today

Toffee white teeshirt with tinsel sellotaped on should be enough surely? Wings of garden wire with pair of white tights stretched over and more tinsel?
Ds1 has to be a pixie next week for Cubs play. No explanation/colour given. Xmas Hmm Perhaps a conical hat is required?
PA I agree, something one would have to get used to..

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 07/12/2010 22:00

I wouldnt say calm swan i would say calmer. It was nice to see him so happy. although the combinations of meds are starting to kick in and i am really starting to lose the plot here.

I have no coherant thoughts and my head is spinning. I have four lots of meds to take in about 30mins ish.

before bed - put the rubbish out as bin day tomo. Clear bed of clutter. Meds. Check ds.

optimistletoemumma · 07/12/2010 22:25

Swan - 4 part a cappella Carols for Choirs plus modern favourites!

systemsaddict · 07/12/2010 22:25

Bin day here too, pleased I remembered as forgot last time and we are drowning in a mountain of recycling! took forever to get it out and have loaded dw, cleaned kitchen and found the Christmas presents I bought a few weeks back ... so much for cruising through the holidays. Off to do 15 mins wrapping before bed.

PA oh dear sounds like parenting never gets much easier!

Linzer well done getting the work done.

Night everyone

MrsDingDongMerrily · 07/12/2010 22:28

Evening all,

Excuse typos, hand are freezing and have just put on fingerless gloves.

Today in Fledgling-land

Deck is spinning with medication, hope it all improves soon

Swan has got marauding children who are overtired (and is by no means alone in this I suspect. Having two days off with snow last week has made a big improvement in my DCs, there's so much happening at this time of year).

PA has had a shock and we are eagerly awaiting reports of what DH had to say when he gothome from work.

Dolanette has had a busy day but manage to fit in tea with a friend, well done!

OM has got a poorly eye and is still waiting to hear from DS

Toffee had a mammoth list following a well deserved day out with a friend yesterday and is now panic-sewing

Plenty has been looking after her Mum who has had a fall, hope she recovers soon.

Linzer - hooray! finally finished her huge job and can get on with the Christmas cards, big glass of wine for you tonight.

Madwoman was up either very early or very late, and is trying to persuade DH not to give up his job.

MrsD has managed to hoover upstairs, do lots of cooking and have a lovely day out with a friend at the Christmas market in Winchester. Also got the DCs to make paperchains and then watched yet another gruesome episode of Corrie. Just needs to do the dishes and go to bed now.

Waves to everyone else, see you tomorrow.

NettiesElfnPie · 08/12/2010 06:44

oo quick question dd 2 doesnt seem to enjoy any activities always wants to leave halfway through gynastic, jo jingles, music and movement, toddler group. It re-enrolement time at jo jingles and i dont know what to do. she loves it for about 30minutes same with gymnastics and then wants to go home. Let her quit or keep perservering?

hope you all have a lovely day, dd is waking up. im lurking away and hope toget back to some proper flying very very soon.

LinzerChristkindlmarkt · 08/12/2010 06:48

Morning all,

Just a quick post as it's a bank holiday here, which means DH is around, which means I can't spend too long on the computer... The DC were up at 6 and running around (why is it normally such a struggle to wake them at 6.45 on a school day?), but thankfully left us in peace until 7 (even if we couldn't actually sleep with all the noise they were making).

Am hoping to get my cards to Australia and the USA ready to send today, plus write as many of the others as possible. DH also mentioned something about putting the tree up, so I might even wrap some presents to put under it.

Sorry for lack of personal messages, but hope everyone has a good day. Xmas Smile

LinzerChristkindlmarkt · 08/12/2010 06:54

Nettie Is jo jingles the only activity she does, or does she do gymnastics as well? If so, maybe just one activity would be enough. Could you find something for her to do instead that only lasts half an hour? Or maybe just take her home after half an hour if that's not too much of a problem and you don't feel like it's a waste of money if she only stays for half the class(?).

feetheart · 08/12/2010 07:04

Sorry to go AWOL but RL seems to have got a bit mad, nothing major just 'stuff'
Have 10 mins before I have to start the morning so will post a list to try and keep me on track:

  • School run with friend's 3 yr old in tow (her DDs Christmas play)
  • Morning routine
  • Clean up several big toys (trike, small bike and easel) to take to shop tomorrow - they sell your things and give you a percentage. Hopefully 3 yr will like that game Xmas Smile
  • Hoover throughout if possible - am hoping 3 yr old is as helpful as my two were at that age. I trained them young Xmas Grin
  • Tidy up
  • Work once 3 yr old has gone
  • School to try and sell tea towels at Yr1 and 2 performance
  • DS's first playdate from school (with Mum I don't know well and little brother hence tidying/hoovering)

That will do for now. Really need HUGE list but won't get it done and will just depress myself when I cut and paste it tomorrow!

Will try and catch up later but hope everyone has a good day (waves frantically and exits stage right to try and raise the dead DC Xmas Smile

feetheart · 08/12/2010 07:06

X-posted - Morning Linzer and *Nettie Xmas Smile

NettiesElfnPie · 08/12/2010 07:54

feetheart nice to see you! Xmas Grin

linzer'thx Dd and ds both do gymnastics on ds only day not at preschool so cant cut it down. Both do swimming which is half hour but Dd wants to leave then too. Jo jingles is 3/4 hr class but can't leave early Xmas Blush Tuesdays are her time and wanted to do something with her but can't find anything that she likes past half hour! Maybe should knock jo jingles on head and let her play at home just try and play with her too! Ds like me can't sit still and always wants to go somewhere.
