December's Fledgling Flyers: Christmas time, swish and swipe and wine, flyers sing to the fat fairy rhyme.

Welcome to the December Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to DEM/DID who looked after us last month and did a fantabulous job

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Oh Ellie :( that is really shit.

Dolanette · 06/12/2010 21:02

Elliepac Thanks for round-up. Are you a teacher! I am too!!

I've a cold/cough so haven't done much!!

This morning
Room rescue - the playroom. Quick tidy-up and Hoover
sitting room - swept floor

Mission - Sorted out my infamous pile of Laundry with help of DH.
Big bag of clothes going to recycling bank.
Bought vacuum storage bags - Filled one Jumbo sized one, it's under our bed now!
Decluttered some of hot press too.

Watching Corrie - it's horrific

elliepac · 06/12/2010 21:15

I am indeed dolanette. Head of history in a local comp for my sins. What do you teach? om is a teacher too in primary. I think there's someone else as well but I can't remember who! Must be because we teachers are always running round like blue bottomed flies that we need help with our housework!

Dolanette · 06/12/2010 21:26

ellie I am a primary teacher. Am taking career break this yr. But still running around like a "blue bottomed fly" as you so eloquently put it!!

elliepac · 06/12/2010 21:32

Eloquence is my middle name Wink. Especially as my first attempt to post said blue bummed fly and I thought better of it Grin.

Hello Dolanette I am a primary teacher too though taking a sabbatical this year.

Quick update on DS1:
he is ensconced in Christ Church having a life-changing experience whether or not he gets in - wow ! I wish I was 18 again...and clever...

He had his first interview today and it was 'good'. Oh dear, that probably means he hasn't got in...
My DS1 is soooo laid back he is almost horizontal. Everyone else is stressing and he's not apparently...What do I do...
He says he thought he managed the Politics interview OK - got some good vibes - but doesn't know what the opposition is like...

Tomorrow he has the Philosophy and Economics bit and stays up til 10pm to see if he's required for interview at another college.

I have to say that it is thorough. I'm v. impressed and if he doesn't get in, it is because others were better and we will all move on...

Sorry for such a long post...what can I say?xx

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 06/12/2010 22:56

Proud mummy moment Xmas Grin

well done ds1!!!

MrsDingDongMerrily · 06/12/2010 23:00

Evening all,

Have spent the evening on the sofa with a big pile of Christmas cards and Corrie on Sky+, it is pretty shocking. As is the Corrie Come Dine with Me which I am finishing off with.

not gong to do lots of individual mentions tonight, but sorry you have had such a crappy day Ellie, and good luck for DS Om

optimisticmumma · 06/12/2010 23:02

OMG mrsd a veritable corrie fest!

Yes dem - will shut up now...x

Stillconfounded · 06/12/2010 23:05

Don't apologise Optimistic!! It IS HUGELY exciting!!! All fingers and toes crossed for him!!!

Oh no - so sorry to hear that Ellie - life always chucks out stuff like this at the worst possible time Sad. That's really not fair.

Sounds like you did amazingly well to survive the day and get back ok - weather conditions sound atrocious over at yours - hope your ds feels better too.

Well done on your productive days Namechange, Dolanette, Madwoman and Swan

Linzer I agree with Namechange having other dc around IS another job!! And far more important than dusting!

Managed to get a fair chunk of 'work' work done today but didn't really Fly much tonight as spent the time with dd playing with her new toys. It's not often I devote an entire afternoon/evening to her and it was fun. We made a Playmobil stable with en-suite bathroom Smile.

Must get to bed now so I can crack on tomorrow. Hope I don't dream about the Krampus!!! You weren't kidding were you Linzer? 'He', 'she' or 'it' is terrifying!!!

'Night all.

Oh ellie - sorry to hear about DH site. A lot of worry for you...try not to, you sound like a strong unit and things will perk up, you'll see...xx

Stillconfounded · 06/12/2010 23:20

Sorry! Left you out Deck!! [Waves back]

[SC wonders what the plural of Krampus is?
Didn't a group of them win the Eurovision song contest a couple of years ago? Grin]

optimistletoemumma · 06/12/2010 23:37

just testing new name..

Just checking in, managed the 'shower to shoes first thing' babystep this morning - and it was the first time for a long time I haven't been running around like the proverbial fly to which Ellie referred earlier all morning. Even got ds to school in really good time despite the ice on the car.

Haven't flown this evening at all bar loading dw but will try and force myself to pick out clothes now (this is the step I struggle with the most and I have no idea why because it's almost effortless and helps so much)!

Sorry to hear about dh's site ellie that sucks. OM how exciting - laid back and confident sounds like Oxbridge material to me!

swanriver · 06/12/2010 23:46

Oh Ellie I'd forgotten you were head of History! Wow! You'll be pleased to know I took out several books on the Romans today from Library and tried to make my poor kids read them Wink What a horrible run-up to Xmas, will the job continue again afterwards for longer perhaps?

Today has been fine. Not bad really..
I returned library books, watched half of Eclipse while writing invites, the other half after Scout pickup
made green Thai curry
employed children usefully and did not allow any telly Shock children behaved nicely
kitchen vaguely tidy when dh came home (for once)
dh also having crap time at work, but is being quite stoical and nice considering - but axe has been hanging over his (it's not his)company for so long I don't know what to think any more.

So many people I know have been made redundant and started again - redundancy seems to be the norm here alas Sad

Very cold here too, put laptop under sofa to hide from children and it was chilled to perfection when I took it out. I think there is a Siberian permafrost under the back part of our house.

ellie - dh is contemplating handing his notice in early (this contract supposed to run until august) and looking for something else. i am very concerned that he won't pick anything else up (it seems v odd to contemplate leaving a paying job with time left to run) but he is optimistic. i can't imagine what it would feel like to not have the choice Sad - you will have to hand over the 'flying' reins for a while Smile how does dh look with wings?

LinzerChristkindlmarkt · 07/12/2010 07:15

Morning all,

Just back from the school run - the roads and pavements were very icy this morning, so I hope the DDs made it school without slipping and sliding about too much.

I'm still waiting to hear about work, so will crack on with my morning routine in the meantime. I haven't done it for over a week now and it's starting to show.

Must also make a start on my Christmas cards. I have no idea when the last posting dates are, or in fact whether there even are any here as Austrians don't go in for sending Christmas cards in a big way, but I really must get my cards to Australia and the USA sent in the next few days.

Oh, what awful timing ellie - obviously not great at any time of year, but really not what you need in the run-up to Christmas.

OM Keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go well for your DS today!

Hope you didn't have nightmares in the end, SC! I think the plural should be Krampi. Xmas Grin Sounds like you had a lovely day with your DD; I really ought to make the time to play with the DC more often. It's just that there always seem to be so many other things to do - nothing that's actually more important though...

Must get on with my morning routine and NOT be distracted. Will be back later. Have a good day everyone. Xmas Smile

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 07/12/2010 11:27

morning. I have had a productive non productive morning and have a whole pile of new meds to try to get me back onto my feet. Basic consensus is that i am knackered. Completely and utterly physically shattered. Although I am allowed to skate as soon as i can breathe again and as many hours as i like Xmas Grin but not for a few more days.

I have a mountain of ironing to do today and 1/3 of a lounge to declutter plus a rug to wash. Not sure how much i will get done but as it is only coming up to 11:30 and all i have to do is pick up meds and head into tescos after digging my car out of the ice. Hmm just hoping the lock isnt frozen as all the deicing stuff is inside the car

LinzerChristkindlmarkt · 07/12/2010 11:31

Where is everyone?!?

All flying abandoned here. I have finally been sent the right link - 10 minutes before school pick-up. I asked them for it yesterday morning; I could have done the translation quite easily yesterday evening or this morning, but no... I now have to get it done with the DC around. It shouldn't take too long, but - aargh!

swanriver · 07/12/2010 13:16

Now I am a bit stuck...can't think what I supposed to do first...Out this morning.
Mop floors
what's for dinner - cheesy potatoes, green veg, tomatoes
make beds
order Lego/playmobil if I can
check bank account
pay house insurance
finish invites for playground handing out batch
wash saucepans
reload dw
quick rescue in bedrooms/playroom
buy catfood and bacon!

after pickup
paperchains (found kit in loft)
xmas cards with kids
homework x 3
piano/violin x 3
drop in on local (elderly)party later

Linzer you are amazing to have done so much so far, how tiresome - but it's nearly done.

ToffeeChristmascake · 07/12/2010 14:02

Too embarrassed to come on here yesterday, because I had a day off flying Blush. Met a good friend after school drop off and we went Xmas shopping together, ending up drinking hot chocolate, eating croissants and talking until I realised I was late for MIL's lunch and had to run back home.

Today, I have had to catch up on everything I didn't do yesterday, so I have only just dared to turn the computer on (otherwise I lose an hour or two).

So far, I have:

Done the packed lunches, school run, etc
Put the rubbish out for collection
Put recycling out
Been to the chemist for MIL
Made B/F and tea for MIL
Bought stamps, cards and Daily Mail Xmas Blush for MIL
Booked hair appt for MIL
Washed up and put away
Emptied d/w
Shined my sink properly (bleach and all Xmas Smile)
Emptied bin
Cleared out fridge of out-of-date food
Cleaned fridge with bicarb of soda
Taken in online Tesco order and put away
Put Xmas box away again (taken out by overenthusiastic DS2 yesterday and contents spilled all over the floor)
Put washing on
Made lunch

To do:

Swish and swipe bathroom
Change towel in b/rm
Check all Xmas presents and work out if I have bought enough and equally for both boys
Write some Xmas cards
Put tumbledrier on
Put some washing away
School run (nb snack for ds2)
Dinner on (roast beef and Yorkshire pud)
Put clean sheets on our bed
Hoover
Tidy our bedroom (DH put out three binbags of rubbish at the weekend, so why does it still look so cluttered?)
Wash up & put away
Bath and bedtime routines for DC
Evening routine (lay clothes out, etc)
Early bedtime for me

Ellie - so sorry to hear about your DH's work. What a rotten time for it to happen too. Thank you for your roundup - much needed on this busy thread.

Deck - hope you feel better soon

Linzer - sorry about work. It never arrives at the right time, does it? I hope you manage to finish it all right and in spite of your DC.

Madwoman - are you married to 'madman'? That might explain why your DH is contemplating handing his notice in early Xmas Smile. Or maybe he knows he will be snapped up easily elsewhere.

Optimistic - sounds like your DS is astonishingly calm and collected about his Oxford interviews. When will he hear if he has an offer? You deserve to have a permanent 'proud mummy' emoticon next to your name at the moment.

Must get on with Xmas stuff now. Sorry for not naming everyone else, but I shall be here for another half hour if I do that. Waves to everyone though.
