Greenlotus: the measuring jug for the Kenwood bread maker is similarly "size challenged" Hmm

nevergoogle · 06/11/2010 21:24

the pampered chef does look good.
any other options out there?

Honeydragon · 06/11/2010 21:30

I didn't get a jug with my my breadmaker!

Sorry, how old is your pyrex jug?? How have you obliterated the print?

PigeonPie · 06/11/2010 21:34

Well, I have just invested in a new 1 1/2 pint jug (have to have two of those at any one time) and two new half pint ones (to make up to three) as DS2 likes hot milk and it is much easier to do it in the little jug and bung it in the dishwasher. However, the numbers on my original 1/2 pint one are wearing out so I'll have to see how these wear.

I had a complete set of four Pyrex bowls as a wedding present (17 years ago Shock and put the largest of them away the other day. When I went to get something out of the cupboard I realised that I must have put the others inside it rather heavily as it was cracked. When I got the other bits out of it, it just fell apart! Was rather sad, but at least I could replace that too.

OP I feel your pain though - it's not completely useless though, you can still heat beans and other tins of stuff without needing to measure them!

thisisyesterday · 06/11/2010 21:36

this looks nice
but may have same prob with numbers coming off

KatyMac · 06/11/2010 21:38

I just got two lovely little 8oz pyrex jugs, I have 3 or 4 pint ones & I really want a 2l one but I haven't seen one

nevergoogle · 06/11/2010 21:40

i think i've only had it about 4 years.

bananarama05 · 06/11/2010 21:44

OH smashed my pyrex jug into a trillion pieces on our kitchen tiles the other day too.

I am now stuck with a peice of plastic crap that has a ridge in the bottom - which genius made that?. Anything with a consistency of...I dunno... cheese sauce etc just gets stuck to the ridge, brilliant.

Sadly I forget every time I visit Tescos. Maybe I should write a list, as it would also include a new kitchen scale battery, lightbulbs, kitchen roll, foil and several other things I've needed for months, sigh.... is 10 weeks too early to blame baby brain?

Honeydragon · 06/11/2010 22:03

What colour was the print?

Dh has a theory that red on pyrex lasts longer, mine is going on 10 years and still fine.

Gosh, I'd hate to think after all this time he was Shock right - he already has too many strings to his bow!

PigeonPie · 06/11/2010 22:20

Honeydragon I've got both red and black and they are all wearing equally badly. So sorry to your DH!

Honeydragon · 06/11/2010 22:21

Yaaaay! Thank goodness I was getting worried I'd have to tell him!

Only thing worse than crap pyrex is a smug Dh Wink

Can you weigh liquids on your scales? Mines an add & weigh so does ml and fl oz.

nevergoogle · 07/11/2010 08:11

twas red print i'm afraid.

OP posts:
charmander · 07/11/2010 08:18

If you measure in metric everyone can use their scales most of the time.

100ml of liquid = 100g.

This does not work for oil though.

When I make bread I just put the pan on the scales and weigh everything that does not need a spoon measure.

mousymouse · 07/11/2010 08:20

I have those breadmaker ones too, love them, they have ml oz cups. (I have two, am on my second breadmaker). the bowl for my scales have measurements too, as do the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=shaker-bottle.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/quick-shake.jpg&imgrefurl=shaker-bottle.com/tupperware-shaker-bottle/&h=185&w=252&sz=4&tbnid=UU60rxkae5mGYM:&tbnh=81&tbnw=111&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtupperware%2Bshaker&zoom=1&q=tupperware+shaker&usg=__eurM7p8klXMIARSFzOle9ctu9QQ=&sa=X&ei=y2DWTJCiDdSF4QaE4OGnBw&ved=0CCgQ9QEwAQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">tupperware shakers (they are great for making pancakes).

Mushroomflumps · 07/11/2010 08:27

If I get that digital measuring jug from lakeland, there is a chance for the first time in his life, my dh may use it, he always wants to play with a gadget!!!

boogeek · 07/11/2010 08:28

I've got the pampered chef ones (the lid is surprisingly useful) and yes they do have metric.

FellatioNelson · 07/11/2010 08:28

Can I just add that the writing on my microwave buttons also rubbed off? And my fourth Tefal steamer has just fallen apart. The reason I've had four is because although the steamer works forever, the brittle plastic of the baskets and lid always snaps and the bases and handle fall off and I burn my hands! Angry

thisisyesterday · 07/11/2010 08:38

no sorry, mine was red writing too.

my incredibly ancient old one had blue on it and it lasted forever (til it broke)

thisisyesterday · 07/11/2010 08:39

oooh this was my old one"!!!!

i've just bought it tho, sorry!

PigeonPie · 07/11/2010 14:01

Ahh, now you see I prefer the ones with the new style handles which don't attach at the bottom as they stack better in the cupboard.

LoveInAColdClimate · 10/11/2010 12:35

I have one of these - is v good as you can see measurements from above rather than having to try to angle yourself down to the work surface.

MaudOHara · 10/11/2010 18:17

charmander thank you for that fab tip about weighing - its probably something that everyone in the world apart from me knew, but will make life so much easier for me and my crappy measuring jugs

peachybums · 10/11/2010 20:43

My jug has gone cloudy too :(. I had a really old glass one my nan gave me and it was fab, numbers still on and crystal clear until DS dropped it on the patio Hmm I got a new one about a year ago and its gone cloudy, numbers havnt come off yet but probs wont be long :(
