Have mopped up a few other admin bits too, so quite productive. House still a tip.
Great news Ali. Aw.
Love hearing about your decorating plans PLUM, its really nice to get a room how you want it, not a hand me down colour scheme, hope it lifts your spirits.

Thanks everyone :) I am so relieved - think I can get excited now!

Plum that sounds lovely, and v.impressive to get it all done by the weekend!
Am I the Ikea expert? Oh dear, not sure if that is a good or bad thing Grin Having said that, we do have some Hemnes! Our bedside tables are Hemnes and we've had them for almost 6 years and they are still going strong. I would like to replace them because they are starting to look at bit battered, but they aren't falling apart or anything like that. We've also got the huge chest of drawers which is in DS' room atm - we've had that for almost 6 years too and it's like new. It has been great and holds an enormous amount of stuff.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that we don't just have IKEA furniture in our house, although if I think about it there is something from there in every room Blush

Mini - well done on the admin. I am dreadful for procrastinating about paperwork etc.

JKS - you have reminded me that I need to do my pre-Christmas Lakeland order Grin

Grin Ali, going to get the hemnes long chest of drawers and then 2 bedside drawers, in the grey brown abit darker than I wanted but can't find any oak I like that isn't mega bucks

I was also out looking at light fittings for lounge as curtain pole man is going to do that soon, so OPINIONS please (unless you don't like Grin)

I have this in dining room

So you can get a smaller version with matching wall lights, not so keen on wall lights or maybe black background putting me off???

or this has caught my eye, with these

I have seen heaps of lovely lights but no matching wall lights, but today I kept going back to look at that one, it was just the way I was with dinning room light and it is gorgeous hanging over table

JustKeepSparkling · 10/11/2010 18:52

Plum - i'm not generally a fan of wall lights, but i prefer the second selection i think. Hard to say with the other one against a black wall though. Worth a trip to go and look in person.

Well friend is stuck in traffic, time is ticking on, i want my evening in peace, wondering when it's going to start!
(And tbh, this girl & DS1 do not tend to get on that well. They have been good today mostly, but she is so bossy and he gets fed up and runs off to hide! He's used to a more chilled way of life i think.)

Just got my Dad that i'm totally stuck on, golf tees at this rate Grin

Not sure about Next order, friend told me you could get stuff delivered to the nearest shop and then send it back if no good, but i can't see that option on the website. I'm after; more bump bands (esp white), decent mat leggings (M'care ones are pretty crap tbh), and some mat pjs - any ideas?

PlumBumMum · 10/11/2010 19:15

No JKS me niether but this house is wired in lounge & living room for tham, the ones in living room are still there, quite plain, BUT chandlier & wall lights that were left in Lounge were very old fashioned gold and quite alot of crystal droplets, wall lights came down last year when decorating so can't wait to get rid of main chandelier

Have been to see them just not sure, probably because I always avoided wall light & frosted glass, (nothing against frosted glass but being a slattern don't care for extra dusing/washing Grin)

For mat Pjs I always went fo mix & match and just bought bigger bottomsBlush, Tesco do lovely mix & match

Sad about your friends nanny,
my aunt has been taken into hospital and it just dawned on me she is 72, I'm very close to her and can't ever remenber her being sick

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/11/2010 19:15

JKS - I got a couple of long mat vests (which are also nursing vests so double use) in Blooming Marvellous when I was pg with DS, and I'm getting loads of use out of them again. I think I use those where you would use a bump band, to get some extra wear out of a shorter top? I have some great mat leggings from www.funmum.com, they are nice and thick and v.comfy, and don't go baggy at the knees. Pjs I have stuck with Mothercare, especially as this site www.affordablematernity.co.uk have them at less than half price. All others I've seen are seriously expensive and often don't have nursing clips or buttons so you are looking at buying new again once you've had the baby which is a complete waste of money I think.
Blush

Plum - that long chest is v.nice. My brother has one! Grin I love that colour, it looks almost pinkish.

I've done something to my foot, it really hurts and I can't put any weight on it. Hoping it is better in the morning!

Plum - I'm not a fan of wall lights either really, not sure why not though. I am also going to be on the lookout for new light fittings for the living room - the ones we have won't go with the new fireplace Grin

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/11/2010 19:20

Gah - pressed post too soon again. Of those two choices you've linked, I much prefer the 2nd. The first wall lights look a bit hotel-ish perhaps? Which is a shame because the main light is nice.

OP posts:
minimammoth · 10/11/2010 19:42

Hi Ali and Plum. Impressive done list Ali.
I like the scond wall light choice too Plum. Our house has such low ceilings so we have to have wall lightsand they are horrible only dining area has an over head.
I tend to look for things that don't hold the dust (live next to main road)

Plum - i did mix and match before with pjs but fancied some 'proper' mat pjs for Christmas and DH said just go out and buy some if it would make you happy :) but i am dithering over prices Hmm

Had another look at those lights, still can't decide. I think if you like the one you have currently, why not go for the smaller one + wall lights? or do you want to have something different? I looked through all the wall lights and couldn't really decide on any!
Maybe chrome ones but get the feeling that's not you/your house.
Or those white uplighters?

May look elsewhere once i've caught up on here.

Ali - thanks for those links, will have a look tonight. the leggings i have just seem too thin, worry people can see my knees Hmm

JKS - I know what you mean about Christmas pjs. I am hankering after something lovely too - especially as we will be at my parents house which is always baltic a bit on the chilly side. I may have a browse Grin

JKS and ALI. Just get the pjs that you feel gorgeous in. bugger the cost. How often are you pg. Think of the money yu are saving by the wine you are not drinking Grin.If you love them you will wear and wear. Sends hugs to lovely pg ladies inc. HicUps, wherever she is.

HicUps · 10/11/2010 20:46

Evening All.

I'm exhausted. At least one day a week I have to stay away from home for work (4 hour drive each way). I absolutely loath it. Am sure many of you would relish a night alone where you can have a bath, order room service and go to bed early and watch telly... In fact, now I put it like that, I don't know what I'm complaining about! Smile

But really, once you tried one of everything off the menu and its all rubbish, the novelty wears off.

No more fluttery feelings from my tum... am probably just imagining things. Am definitely having a growth spurt though, as am completely starving all the time at the mo.

Glad you are talking decorating, I've got to start thinking about sorting out the nursery. Any tips/ ideas?? I don't think we'll know whether its a boy or girl (preferring the element of surprise). Is yellow a good idea for wall colour?

HicUps · 10/11/2010 20:53

oop. Meant to say to Ali, that Ive also had weird hurty foot things from time to time, that just seem to come and go. So hope yours gets better soon.

Also, your soup story did make me chuckle. I can imagine the exact same thing happening here. My DH is always throwing stuff out. (baring in mind that as Mini's DD, I was brought up to ignore best before dates entirely!!!)
Mini - read your crimbo cake fruit crime!! cake smelled ok to me!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/11/2010 21:00

Mini - you are right about the pjs, I know you are. Bank balance is reeling slightly from the fireplace order, but it will recover Grin

Hicups - we painted our nursery yellow. It feels nice and bright in there even on a dull day. We kept it very simple, just repainted and a Pooh bear lightshade and then waited until DS arrived. Gradually we've added things as he has needed them and been given them, and now it is really his room. Will need to have some kind of rethink now we are having another, depends on whether we get our planning permission for a fourth bedroom or not.....

You probably aren't imagining the flutters - I felt some at 14/15 weeks with DS, and at about 11 weeks with this one! I think that then you don't feel it so much as the baby moves up out of your pelvis and there is more room, and then you feel it again as they grow. All v.exciting!

OP posts:
JustKeepSparkling · 10/11/2010 21:09

Thing is, i can't really find any pjs i really like!

Even these which are £54 are just 'ok', there is loads of brown & grey out there, don't fancy them. Had been eyeing up some Cath Kidston ones in John Lewis before i got pg, they are lovely & 'only' £48.

hmm. right must get off to bed.

JustKeepSparkling · 10/11/2010 21:10

These however are 'interesting' for £15!!

HicUps · 10/11/2010 21:13

Mini - Thanks for hug. Needed one after today. Feeling glum for some reason.

Ali - thanks for painting advice. Might venture to buy paint at weekend. DH is out, so there won't be any colour arguments. Mind you he's colour blind, so not much help there!

PlumBumMum · 10/11/2010 22:43

I prefer the £54 ones

I wasn't sure chrome would go in that room with the cast iron bit of fire place and new black curtain pole

Did get a lovely chrome one for bedroom, might look again at chrome, as there is chrome arch on fireplace and silver pecks on curtain pole hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anyway have masked up and cut in all the walls so getting up early tomorrow I will have it done for tomorrow night!

Hicups I did the nursery lemon and lilac (looking back lucky dc1 was a girl) but then I painted lots of characters on the walls, the lovely couple that bought our house are expecting and said they have kept the room the same

anonymousbird · 11/11/2010 08:38

Morning ladies!!

Well, we have lots of wall lights - not through choice though. Our entire upstairs is too low to have any ceiling lights (soon to be changed though, yey!!!!!). They are very very plain though.

And downstairs we have spots in the "new" part of the house ie. where ceilings are high enough to allow.

But not a chance of having the luxury of some fantastic hanging down light unfortunately... Sad

Occupational hazard of living in a cottage!

Anyway, kids have gone to school so here is today:

Today

  • Up, showered and dressed me and DC?s DONE
  • DC to school DONE
  • General tidy, make beds etc
  • Go through Life Insurance documents nearly there

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/11/2010 09:03

Morning :)

Plum if you have got a little chrome in the room already then you could go for a chrome light fitting. From what I can see places often have more choice in chrome than in the black/brown metal.

Hicups - hope the glumness is just hormones and that you feel better today :)

JKS - £115 for pjs! Shock DH would faint with horror if I spent that much, mainly because they are foul Grin

It is a yucky day again today, pouring with rain. My foot is still really sore, just hoping I can drive so that I can take DS to monkey music later. Really want to go as we missed last weeks and will miss next week too.
