I just totted up my yearly supermarket spend. £6100 for a year. Shock at seeing it in black and white.

It equates to £115 a week. But that is everything - food, cleaning stuff, birthdays, christmas, dinner parties, wine, beer the lot. And all holiday catering EXCEPT our one week abroad.

We aren't extravagant (I don't think), however, I don't budget every last penny and meal either... if we didn't drink any booze, it would come waaaaaaaay down!!!!!

JustKeepSparkling · 09/11/2010 12:34

Wow Anon - i'm almost tempted to do that but worry at what our figure would be, we often get carried away in Waitrose so probably vvv high!

Comtessa - where is that bed? :) And how to put up curtains? Get Someone Else to do it!

Alice - yes Elveden (that's the Suffolk one right?) Really loved it actually, for all it's flaws. We will go back when we can brace ourselves for the price. We love travelling abroad as adults but not with DC, and they enjoy CP so much.

Alice, JKS, Anon and I'm: The bed is being put together as I type! I am so excited! DH is due to come home shortly as he forgot something for work this morning and so I hope it's finished when he gets here as I think the excitement is too much to hold onto until he comes home! Sadly unlikely to see any action in it until about Christmas - unless LO goes over due date. (TMI Grin )

this is the bed. We have a lovely, huge quilt which was mostly made by DH's late grandmother and finished by DH's mother the year we got married. Finally we have a suitable home for it! Inside I'm jumping up and down. Outside, my knees would probably give in :)

anonymousbird · 09/11/2010 13:54

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Well, it's a gorgeous bed and the quilt sounds lovely, and very precious.

I am just so relieved for you no longer being on the floor?!?!?!?!?!?

Seriously, it looks fantastic, hopefully worth the wait. Smile

comtessa · 09/11/2010 14:00

Thanks! Was just nervously checking original order note to check they brought the correct mattress, and they have. My knees will be so happy with me tonight on my half-dozen trips to the bathroom. This is the most excited I've ever been about putting new sheets on the bed :o

Thanks for everyone's interest - it has so helped to be able to rant on here! Now off to call my mum

xx

comtessa · 09/11/2010 14:01

Also, final bed mention (promise!) but the bed is a wedding present (two years on!) from my parents, so it's just so nice to feel that it's a family gift what with quilt and bed together. Am now going to lie down in lieu of bouncing on bed.

minimammoth · 09/11/2010 15:35

I wonder what tme you will be turning in tonight Comptessa?
The total year food Bill is a scary thought anon I am sure we spend about that amount and have no dcs around to feed.

Comtessa - am interested in how you chose your mattress, or what you chose and why? I think we need a new one, I have a seriously dodgy back, but not sure where to start - unless you get a chance to try one (ie. for a night's sleep rather than five minutes in a showroom) it's hard to know what to choose....

Oh yes, and do protect it well, as JKS suggests - you never know!

Thanks Wasting!
Anon we went for a pocket-sprung, as that means that your weight is distributed over hundreds of little springs, as opposed to traditional mattresses which have only a few springs. The idea of the pocket-sprung mattress is that if your partner turns over in bed, you don't feel them through the mattress bouncing/moving.
There were a choice of four mattresses at the place we bought the bed. This is the one we went for - got discount of about 400GBP as bought bed and mattress together. John Lewis is a good place to start for research purposes, even if you're not keen on their prices, as their staff are very knowledgeable. I've found that other places tend to just have salespeople who parrot whatever the info is about the bed from the manufacturer.
I've also had an Ikea mattress in the past - left bed in my flat was letting flat furnished, it was still v.v. comfortable after four years. It was the sort that was a very firm mattress with no springs but with a Sultan mattress topper to make it nice and comfy on top.

Um, essay over! Good luck choosing.
