OK, rant alert: just done school run, DS2 screaming on way in as he wanted to run off (other parents don't know his history so don't 'get' his behaviour), queue for ages (they were running late), all the other parents know each other so i find this difficult as i'm not naturally outgoing, collect DS1 clutching a 'spider cake' in an open bowl, I hold cake (obv Hmm) DS1 runs downstairs/out of sight, DS2 now doesn't want to leave, i pick him up one-handed (as have cake) he headbutts me, by accident but it still smarts.
Hoik him downstairs, then DS1 is mucking about as we try and find coats, DS2 screaming again.
We get outside, it starts raining, DS1 runs off. get to car park eventually, drop sodding cake out of bowl onto gravel Angry (manage not to say sodding bollocks!!) get boys to car, get home.

DS1 now wants his cake...will have to pick the gravel bits off and reassemble it.

All this with lots of other parents watching of course, who all know each other as their kids did pre-sch there and DS1 didn't. grr.

and breathe......

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 16:26

Alice - HA HA HA. That made me larf. What a wonderful ruse to get DH going with his feather duster?!?!? Wink

OH JKS Poor you, days like that - when it all seems to happen at once - nightmare. LIke you say, deep breath. Tomorrow is another day (etc).... Glad the shoe turned up though!

You play in an orchestra???? I am intrigued, what do you play?

Fumble my DD was a screamer. She was either attached to me, or right next to me - in some sort of contact at all times and I so much as moved a muscle (literally) she would scream blue murder. I didn't even have to actually move/go to get up, she just screamed. Once she was on the move it got better quite quickly, and after a year, it got a LOT better. She stopped screaming, she stopped being sick and she stopped not being able to breathe (scary). Basically, it was all to do with being upright and being able to move! And she has never looked back - the most independent, confident and happy nearly 5 year old I could ever wish for Smile.

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 19/10/2010 16:27

JKS they were probably just thinking "Poor woman, glad it is not me, had a day like that last week" or something. You are doing fine, don't worry about the cake, i am so laid back with DD eating stuff off the floor now especially after she rolls about with the dogs at the yard and drinks her bathwater (looks like soup after she has been in it - bits of hay and mud)

Anyway, must go, DD and i are going to bake Smile

JustKeepSwimming · 19/10/2010 16:33

Thanks guys :)
I'm over it now but feeling too antisocial and tired for orch so have cancelled sitter and sent an apology.

Anon - i play the clarinet, have done since about 7yrs old but had a 'dry spell' at uni when i found the orch people v snooty!
I only play in a small friendly low stress orch. Can normally get by with no practice or at least just a tiny bit before a concert .

Hailstones + random toys taken out to the garden by DS2 earlier. hey ho.

Am now looking forward to curling up on sofa with blanket (and maybe a wee glass of wine) and Twilight recorded yesterday for after-bedtime.

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 16:51

Am impressed JKS. One thing I regret is that I gave up music when I left school. When we have done the house we will have room for my Mum's piano which she is kindly donating to the cause, so I really hope to pick it up again. Even just enough to play with the children as they get a bit older would be lovely.

You and me both, sofa, fire going, dog nestled at my feet (in my dreams, she only lives for DH Sad Angry) and a nice cold glass of wine. That is where I SHOULD be at approx 8.30. Watch some Nigella/Desperate Housewives/something equally "turn your brain off" TV. The reality is, I'll probably be doing the ironing or something!

FreakoidOrgansandBloodoid · 19/10/2010 17:43

JKS I agree with alice, they'd have just been thinking thank god it isn't mine today (if they even noticed, I'm usually too busy chatting and trying to keep tabs on ds to notice what anyone else's child does)

Need to add parent's eve to the list. Afetr turning up last week I had completely forgotten it was tonight until I went to collect dd!

Friend came over for a cup of tea earlier, her ds has had chicken pox and now has a really flakey scalp. She was picking at it at my dining table, is it just me or is that really gross??

Still haven#t remade my bed. will regret it later when I go up to go to bed and realise I have to make it.

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 18:55

Ladies.
After your fabulous advice on the vacuum bags, now it's your lucky day to give me the low down on ..............

Laminators! Anyone got one? Any good? Particular make?

I really really really want one. Considering putting on christmas list, but not sure I can wait that long. Have £50 birthday money burning hole in purse (should go towards paying off teeth whitening really) but just wondering whether I can get a decent laminator for that money???

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 18:56

PS. Freaki that is gross, for sure. Bleugh.

And JKS yes, everyone has those days (god, I do!) and both of what Alice and Freaki say I completely reiterate!

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 20:24

Ok, it's getting serious now. DH comes home on Thursday, and the kids break up so I have less than 48 hours to do everything I need to do for the next nearly two weeks. My 8.30 deadline of being sat down approaches, and I have done no ironing. At least I need to do the uniform!!! HELP!!!!!!!!! My lists are getting longer not shorter!!!!!! And I haven't even started the Christmas one yet Hmm (Can you sense the panic setting in?!)

The DC and I, as happy as we are and have been (absolutely no rucks this past week.....) are living in a disaster zone.. As fast and as hard as I think I am doing things, I am getting soooo distracted (laminator being a classic example) and it HAS. TO. STOP.

OK, so the kids get a lift tomorrow (yey) so no excuses. Shit or bust time.... Situation critical.

Anon. Sit down, breath and relax, pour large G&T. then say 3 times 'I am calm'. Now prioritise, and delegate where possible. You can do it and you won't die if you don't.
Trying to be supportive here. Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/10/2010 20:47

Hello everyone! :) Welcome fumble :)

Still at my parents, because I've clobbered my car!! I was driving down a road I've been down several hundred times, and didn't know that a new cycle lane with accompanying kerbs and low barriers had been put in, so when I turned right - bang! :( Need a new tyre which the garge can't get until tomorrow, so am about £200 down. Which is a nightmare because there is no spare cash in the account - payday on Friday and I've left my sodding credit card at home. DH is still in Sweden and his laptop won't let him onto the online banking to move any cash! Argh, disaster - feel about 19 as I'm going to have to get my Dad to pay for it even though I can afford it really just not tomorrow! Boo.
Still, DS is having a great time and being spoilt rotten so not all bad :)

Anon - relax my lovely, the G&T sounds a brilliant idea!

Alice - I love that tactic, may have to employ it myself Wink

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 19/10/2010 20:57

Mini and Ali

Glass of wine JUST poured. I can do no more tonight (she tries to convince herself).

Anyway, just had a completely shit conversation with my folks. Won't bore you, but bad enough to have just started a thread here about it

So thank you ladies, the drink is cold, it is waiting. Your support is wonderful and much appreciated.

Ali so sorry to hear of car/tyre/bank issues, hope all gets sorted tomorrow!

JustKeepSwimming · 20/10/2010 06:15

Anon - sorry about the phone call. My parents, as much as i love them dearly, can show so little interest in our lives, especially on the phone. They are very 'hands off' compared to PIL who are ott very interested.
It does get me down sometimes, eg when we've had a hosp appt for DS2, MIL is on the phone leaving messages wanting to know how it went. My mum has forgotten about it, i ring her and have to bring it up 'so we went to GOSH today...' etc.

I have tried to 'downgrade' my expectations so i don't get so bothered but it doesn't always work.

Mind you it does sound like something more was going on esp with your Dad. Hope they are chirpier at the weekend.

Not a great start to the day here; woke at 5, DS2 at 5.24 (second day running), got downstairs, changing his dirty nappy (also a new morning habit with him) and he whacks me with some toy as he wants me to turn it on. I cry, he cries. i'm too tired :(

Wed:

  • all up & breakfasted
  • all dressed
  • DS1 to sch
  • DS2 & N to pre-sch
  • maybe meet friend for cake in cafe
  • lunch & tidy up
  • asthma nurse for DS2 (1.15)

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 20/10/2010 07:38

Morning all! Well, DS decided to get up at 6 (great!) so strung out the inevitable voyage downstairs with a lovely cuddle... he's good at cuddles, and luckily still loves them. Won't last forever!

Thanks JKS, at least it's not just me. My PILs are also uber keen, so the contrast is blinding. Am Shock yours didn't remember about your hospital visit. Gets me down though, haven't spoken to them for at least 3 weeks and they didn't even mention DC's names, let alone ask how they were - thing is, although Dad might perk up by the weekend, my mother can hardly drag herself to be remotely interested at any point. I can only think something has happened, or they had had some news (though they are usually quick to share as it means we are talking about them rather than us ..) Oh well.

Despite the fact my DD is about to turn 5, I have no idea what to buy as a gift to two other 5yo girls ... My DD is asking for stuff like a remote control car, which is fine and she will love it, but clearly, most 5yo girls probably don't want that! Any ideas? Under a tenner preferably....

AND - set up energy monitoring meter (inspired by another thread...)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/10/2010 09:53

JKS - you poor thing :( DS gets quite violent with me sometimes, just because he doesn't realise he's hurting me.

Words - Envy at your cleaner. We are getting one to start after Christmas and will keep them certainly until the baby is 6 months old.

Anon - that is pretty rubbish of your parents, have you ever asked your Mum why she doesn't seem to be very interested? My FIL is crap, he hasn't seen DS for almost a year now and doesn't seem to be bothered. I've given up caring, because MIL and Step-FIL are interested and my parents are very interested so DS has plenty of GPs in his life. I know it upsets DH though, because FIL dotes on SIL's kids and sees them a lot.

My car problems are sorted, DH is riding down here on his white charger as we speak and will go and get it all fixed and pay the garage - because he is organised and carries all his bank cards with him when he's away from home Grin I feel slightly daft needing to be rescued by my husband, but better that than be rescused by my father! Blush
