help with maths question pie chart 😭

Ok. You know how many more women voted than men.

Work out the angle of the pie chart that is women (remember 360 degrees in a circle), subtract the men's angle from that. This is the angle that accounts for that more.

So now you've got a fraction angle/360 which equals the number of women more.

Is that's enough for your DC to work from there?

Chocmallows · 22/05/2019 20:57

A circle is 360 degrees. You have a third and two thirds in proportion of male to female.

I think
2800 are additional women voters.
Double 2800 for women.
Men are 2800.

Or just 3x 2800.
Maybe completely wrong here!

Hyggemama · 22/05/2019 20:59

I think...
If men and women had voted equally they would have 180 degrees of the chart. They didnt men had 50 degrees less (180-130). 2600 represented by 50 degrees means each degree = 56 because 2600 divided by 50 =56. 56 x 360 = total of 20,160
Does that make sense?

LarryTheLurker · 22/05/2019 21:02

An equal split would give 180 degree angle. As it is, 100 degrees more women vote than men, so 1 degree of voters is 28 and 360 (the full circle) is (360 x 28) 10, 080. Take off the 2,800, divide by 2, add the 2,800 back to one side ... 3,640 men vote and 6,440 women.

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 21:02

360 - 130 = 250
250. - 130 =120

120° is equivalent to 2800
360 ° is equivalent to (2800 X3) people

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/05/2019 21:04

You definitely don't have a third and two thirds. You have 130/360 and 200/360, which do simplify if you really want to but calculators cope just fine with unsimplified fractions.

100/360 = 2600

You want to work out the full circle, ie 360/360

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/05/2019 21:05

Sorry, fat fingers, second fraction on my last post should be 230/360

WeeDangerousSpike · 22/05/2019 21:07

a circle is 360 degrees. Half a circle is 180 degrees. 180-130 = 50

So 50 degrees is how much more of the circle is women than men. 2800 more women voted, so 50 degrees = 2800
Now you need to know how many 50 degrees 'slices' make up 360.

360 divided by 50 is 7.2

7.2 x 2800 =20160

3.6 x 2800 = 10080

Add on the extra 2800 from the beginning = 12880

purplelila2 · 22/05/2019 21:08

@LarryTheLurker omg thank you so much absolute genius

Thank you everyone for helping xxxxxxxxxxx

Doh its not a difference of 50 degrees like I said. Blush its 230 vs 130. So 2600/100 means each degree accounts for 26 people.

WeeDangerousSpike · 22/05/2019 21:11

Bollocks bollocks bollocks! I missread and started to work out how many women, then didn't delete the wrong bits after I corrected it! Twat!

It's just this bit you need:

a circle is 360 degrees.

MadameJosephine · 22/05/2019 21:11

Men voters = 130 degrees

Women are therefore 360-130 = 230 degrees

The difference is 230-130 = 100

So 100 degrees = 2800 voters

That’s 28 voters for every degree

360 x 28 = 10,080 voters in total

Hyggemama · 22/05/2019 21:11

Except it 2800 / 100 not 2600 / 100. Sorry! I think i need to go to bed Grin

WeeDangerousSpike · 22/05/2019 21:12

Oh I give up, ignore me...

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 21:12

No - ignore the subtraction error in my post.

360 -130 = 230
230 (women) - 130(men) = 100° (difference between men and women)

100° = 2300
360°=(2300\100)x360
Total =360x23

purplelila2 · 22/05/2019 21:12

@MadameJosephine thank you its really helped ds understand xxx

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 21:13

50° is not the difference between men and women, it's the difference between men and one half of those who voted

purplelila2 · 22/05/2019 21:18

😂😭😂😭😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😭 lol lol lol it's just so damn hard

OP posts:
purplelila2 · 22/05/2019 21:21

help! how did you get 28?

OP posts:
phenomenalcat · 22/05/2019 21:22

10,000

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/05/2019 21:29

Send ds to talk to his teacher and ask for help. The teacher knows what method they've taught (I have taught 3 different methods over the 15 years I've been teaching). If ds goes to ask his teacher, before the lesson it's due in, the teacher will in all likelihood go through it with him. I would.

Lougle · 22/05/2019 21:29

It isn't hard, I promise. You've been told the 'more' is 2800. The men represent 130°. The women represent the remaining 230° (360-130=230).

Women - men = 230° - 130° = 100°

So 2800 = 100°; 2800 ÷ 100 = 28 per 1°

A circle has 360°; 28 × 360 = 10,080 voters in total.

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 21:33

Sorry again

100° (the difference between men and women) = 2600 voters

1°. = 26 voters
360°= 26 x360

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 21:34

FFS. Replace above with 2800 voters...
