I made the mistake of reading comments from teachers about kids with bad behaviour

I feel so sorry for kids who get labelled bad. This is a big part of why we are home educating. My kids are autistic, ADHD and have severe sensory integration issues. My oldest cannot cope in any environment except home. He's getting better and better at coping at appointments etc but only for 30 mins or so. If I were forcing him to go to school, he'd be a trouble maker, he'd hit and lash out because he was scared. I feel sorry for kids who don't have good support and are misunderstood. I feel sad for teachers and general society who think it's bad behaviour as if the child is really able to control themselves. :(

Special schools are segregation in my opinion

You said yourself your eldest doesn't cope anywhere other than home.

If your expecting him to cope in a MS school rather than a SS then I'm not sure what you're expecting?

My ds has autism. I wanted him in a school that was suitable for what he could cope with rather than fit him into an environment that was wrong for him and then blame the environment.

I would have HE him if he couldn't cope with any of the settings nearby. If that was best for him.

You're absolutely right that school isn't for everyone and a school for everyone just doesn't exist because it's almost impossible. You're also not wrong about our system being broken.

I just think it's for the same reasons you believe.

Are you joking quidditch?

With regards to inclusive education I think people misunderstand it or want it to be something that centres around what their child needs.

For example - my ds started at a MS academy who did a weekend camping in first half term for bonding etc.

Ds couldn't manage that so did daytimes only and I took him and dropped him off.

I know some sen parents who were horrified and said they weren't including him Confused they were. I didn't feel they should do a completely different event (no overnights) because that's the only way my ds could be included. What I expected was they made sure he could access all of it if he could manage - so make adjustments but not actively exclude him.

I've heard parents say they've never managed to get their child to a theatre but expect the school to find how ever many staff is needed to get their child there as they should be included.

I don't agree that's for the best of the child. If they need 5 members of staff they clearly cannot manage.

@OppsUpsSide

Isn’t Home Ed also segregation? (Genuinely asking)
I was thinking the same thing.

Shake it is infuriating how LAs get away with spending £££ defending cases they are never going to win. While ever there are no consequences they will continue.

The LA should be providing more than a bit of tuition. DS is entitled to the therapies in F. Covid should not be used as an excuse, the relaxation of the rules ended last year. If section F is specific and quantified inform the LA that if they don't provide the therapies in F and appropriate tuition you will be forced in to Judicial Review proceedings. If the threat doesn't work and SOSSEN can help with a pre-action letter.

If the school you think can meet DS' needs is one of the non maintained special school or section 41 independents push the LA can name the school anyway.

@10brokengreenbottles - the LA is naming a school that offers no GCSEs nor anything in section F. For a kid who seems to be taking after various Oxbridge maths professors in the family.
The Tribunal is to get them to agree to a better school, but if we're up against both schools and the LA... Then there's probably JR as you say. By which time he'll probably be looking for 6th form...
