Do you think IKEA sofas are any good?

I’m just trying to replace our trashed sofas - dogs, cats, kids etc.

I really like the look of IKEA sofas, especially the Valnäs, but I don’t want them to look rubbish too quickly.

I get these are not at all expensive really but I am in a budget and can’t keep replacing sofas.

Any views on IKEA sofas?

Well I have had several over the years and I think they are perfectly decent for the price. We've had Ektorps and have a newer design in our kitchen. The covers are relatively easy to take on and off; they wash and dry well. Im a big fan. Probably the quality long term wont be as good as a 5000 pound sofa but ours have lasted a good 10 years. Ive also spent more on a sofa from DFS type place and it was awful.

I'd check which ones have removable covers. The Ektorp definitely does.

We’ve got an Ikea sofa and it’s fab!

My IKEA sofa is about ten years old, and I still love it. We needed a new sofa for another room recently and I was disappointed that no other retailer had anything as nice!

Ours is no longer an option at IKEA, but I’d happily buy from there again.

Ours is also ten years old. Wonder if it’s a Tidafors like ours!

Love my IKEA sofa. Don't love my other IKEA sofa but it was a stupid design I failed to spot.

Generally I think they're inoffensive and good value.

Have you tried any in person?

We bought most of our furniture from Ikea when we moved house 10 years ago but been a couple of times this year and been really disappointed by the quality on offer- particularly in chairs and sofas.

The cheaper ones aren't that comfy. The Jattebo range are very comfortable though and they're modular so you can design your own. They come in lots of colours too.

Also when you get bored or change your colour scheme you can get a new set of covers ( ive had some off Facebook marketplace).

We had 2 Ikea Tidafors sofas in our lounge with the half moon footstools. They were great, I had young children who clambered onto the footstool to get onto the sofa. They were meant to be short term but we kept them a long time.

We also had the Ektorp in the children's playroom and that thing survived for longer than I ever expected considering where it was and how it was used and abused by my children.

What Ikea sofas are like now I don't know but they were solid back then.

We have 2x3 seater Ektorps in our holiday rental for 15 years. Which have had a beating over this time with sunscreen and god knows what else spilled on them.

Bought a second set of covers, easy to change when required.
One thing we did notice was the feathers went flat after a while, so we have new cushions seats and backs make and added more foam on the arms and are like new.

Only Ektorp. My dad has had these for 20 years. Good sofas and comfy sofa beds too.

But I’m not mad on the design.

We’ve had Landskrona leather sofas for about 10 years in our guest accommodation and they are super comfy, a very classic look and have lasted very well.

We are living between two houses at the moment and we bought Ektorp and Ekaneset sofas and a couple of Ekaneset armchairs for our other home in 2024. We didn’t want to spend a fortune because we should be consolidating into one place in the not too distant future. They’re very comfortable and seem pretty hardwearing. As pps have said the ability to change the covers on the Ekaneset sofas is a plus and the traditional style upholstery can be plumped up.

Anyone have the Vimle sofas? I am looking at these with removable covers but haven’t had a chance to try one yet. And what to know if they last.

I bought an ikea sofa last Autumn.
The corner sectional begining with a V. I can't remember the exact name.

I'm pleased with it overall it's holding up well.

I was dubious too but I was limited by an awkward size and shape and this one fitted so I went for it.

So far so good.

Yup, we have a Vimle corner 3-seater sofabed with the sticky-outy bit. It’s structurally excellent and great value for money. Incredibly comfortable both as a sofa and bed - far more so than much more expensive designer sofabeds. The only issue, which I find true for Ikea washable covers as a whole, is that the covers fade due to washing and the sun, so after 8-10 years it’s still in perfect structural condition but needs a new cover on some bits (and I think you can only buy new covers as a full set costing hundreds). Overall it was a great buy.

We have 2 Ektorps, had them for years and recently bought new covers. They’re very comfy and great value for money.

I love the fact that I can take all the covers of my Ektorps and wash them as we have a dog.

I am also a big fan of the Tidafors, but they don't make it anymore. As a house of tall people I find the new models are shorter and the seat depth isn't as good anymore. I also have a 20 year old Kilppan which is still going strong.

Love my Ektorp. Fab quality and comfort for the price.

I have two Vimle- went with the shorter wider armrest both times. Ones a 3 seater the others a córner seater. I haven’t changed the covers yet as haven’t had to but that was the reason we bought them. I love them! I also bought some headrests for the 3 seater but don’t love them as much.

the lower armrest is better as it’s soft enough to work like a pillow when you lie down on it.

Just to add some variety, I hate the Ektorp sofas

I’ve had an Ikea sofa in the past and have an Ikea sofa bed. Both were good.

I have two. My living room is very tricky to get into and needed sofas that could be assembled.

I went to Ikea and sat on all of them and made a short list.

mine are also good for napping on. My cats also like to nap on them.
