Pink reading chair that is comfy but won't break the bank!

Hi all, hoping I can ask for some help here.

I've got zero home style, my house is very much bare walls new build that I've been living in for the past 7 years.

This year I'm determined to do some decorating to make the place feel a bit more homely, I'd like to make a corner of my study into a reading space for me, so I would like a dusky pink chair that is comfortable so I can sit and read, away from it all.

My budget is up to £800 but I'd prefer £400 or less, the space is more single armchair footprint rather than a snuggle chair size (so maybe 1m squared).

Can anyone recommend something comfortable and affordable to start me off with please?

If can wait until Jan sales then bargains to be had, though I appreciate ages away. We bought a lovely green velvet sofa (Rocket St.George) from next in the sales, £1200 reduced to £219 this year.

If want full on statement pink, they've got this, grins.

That is one beautiful chair 😍

Isn’t it! I’ve screenshot it for future reference as my next ‘empty nest’ home is going to feature pink.

What you need is an Ikea Strandmon with a pink throw. Or you can buy covers for them, from other sites, but they cost almost as much as the chair. We’ve got 2 grey ones, which we’ve had for about 8 years now. They’re so comfortable and haven’t sagged at all. We have the matching footstools too. We are thinking about buying a couple more, although we don’t need them at all, just incase IKEA stop selling them

I second this chair

I'm tempted by the IKEA Strandmon, dye the beige covers and buy the cushion that goes with the gorgeous floral chair shared on page 1 which has the same beautiful floral pattern on it!!!

Have you looked round the furniture warehouse type places that do the returns/seconds/end of ranges? Home Depot? It's random but you can get a bargain. Also, 2nd hand furniture shops - not antique, just used - can be like an Aladin's cave of one off styles. You could go the full hog and take up an upholstery course yourself - find some lovely fabric and recover an old chair. Not dirt cheap but satisfying and very original. Or.... IKEA Sandtrom dyed, do the back buttons in a zingy contrast.

For something more mid-century in style, there's the John Lewis Hendricks chairs. We have a couple of these plus a snuggle seat in various rooms.

I shall sell you my dusky pink reading armchair for that price - jokes, I would never part with it. Sitting in it with my coffee and book bring me joy every day. I even WFH in it if my workload doesn’t require a second screen some days.

I got a Parker Knoll winged armchair off marketplace for about £50. It’s the comfiest thing ever. Make sure you buy it with the fabric you like though as they are painfully expensive to upholster

I’ve got this and it’s ace! So comfy and a great size, reclines x 2 and enough room for me and the dog! Easily washable and changeable cover too - I have the pink one. The ink thin I’d add is that some may want a headrest on the back but I’m fine without one..

I have nothing to offer than I love the idea of a reading chair.

The IKEA one is a really comfy chair, so that sounds like a great option. Plus that way you could buy a footstool and a cosy blanket too.

This is my pink reading chair. It’s a Lounge Co chair (Romilly) but I bought it from the Lounge Co outlet. I think you can buy it at full price from Furniture Village but I only paid £350 for mine. They are selling this chair on the outlet site but not in pink unfortunately.

I discovered chair covers this year. Saved me a fortune! The riser recliner now fits the room, my daughter's tub chair is pink instead of yellow.

Pigtailsandall · 18/05/2026 17:22

I've earmarked an accent chair for my home office and I like this to complement the dark walls though not strictly pink

adhsamum · 18/05/2026 18:35

Facebook marketplace is your friend! I very often see beautiful “accent” type chairs in great condition on there - often because they’re bought more as decor rather than daily use.

@44PumpLane If you’re considering some DIY dyeing of covers, know that you can buy fabric paint for furniture - Fabricoat

You can also make your own custom colour fabric paint really easily at home. Just mix 1/3 paint with 2/3 fabric softener, and then paint it on.

You may need 2 coats, and need to let it dry between layers, but it’s worth a try if you find the perfect chair second hand.

If you have a large TKMaxx near you, try there. Our one, in St Helens had pink chairs with pull out foot stools. They had scallop, rounded, beautiful green ones as well (if anyone is after a green chair). All under £250.

The Wilson highback at Next is a comfy chair. I’ve sat in it in store and it’s lovely :)
it’s available in raspberry pink
