Pink reading chair that is comfy but won't break the bank!

Hi all, hoping I can ask for some help here.

I've got zero home style, my house is very much bare walls new build that I've been living in for the past 7 years.

This year I'm determined to do some decorating to make the place feel a bit more homely, I'd like to make a corner of my study into a reading space for me, so I would like a dusky pink chair that is comfortable so I can sit and read, away from it all.

My budget is up to £800 but I'd prefer £400 or less, the space is more single armchair footprint rather than a snuggle chair size (so maybe 1m squared).

Can anyone recommend something comfortable and affordable to start me off with please?

Have a look at Next home. You can search for “armchair” and filter by ‘pink’ and it gives all sorts (456 to be exact!) of options in various price points. You can then browse and get a feel for what you like, make a short list or take screen shots on ones you like and go from there.

Thanks @24Dogcuddler that 4th option particularly is lovely!

And I'll take a look at Next thanks @Summersongroses

Check eBay or Vinted and find a bargain. Don’t spend £400!!

Poang chair and footstool with a pink blanket draped over it. The footstool goes under the chair when not in use. Try Freecycle. Cost £0.
Also dismantles for getting into the house/up stairs, and easy to pass on when you no longer need it.

I have to admit that I’ve got DS’s old Poang armchair and footstool in my lounge and use them far more than the sofa, they are that comfortable. I bought new cushions for them both and have added a nice sheepskin throw and pretty cushions to the armchair. It looks lovely for very little cost.

Me too. Got it from Freecycle. Very comfortable.

Love the Poang suggestion too, I think my Mum has one so I'll have a sit in it to try

I never knew this! After goodness knows how many years of owning the chair and footstool, I love my poang, it’s so comfortable.

There’s a reading char in JL which is so comfy! It’s not pink though but it does have a floral pattern. It’s an old style armchair

I have Ikea Ektorp chair, it has loose covers which I've dyed pink. Love it.

Oh wow!! I love this!!

That is one beautiful chair 😍

I like the sound of dusky pink. I liked Amanda's pink sofa in Amandaland

What you need is an Ikea Strandmon with a pink throw. Or you can buy covers for them, from other sites, but they cost almost as much as the chair. We’ve got 2 grey ones, which we’ve had for about 8 years now. They’re so comfortable and haven’t sagged at all. We have the matching footstools too. We are thinking about buying a couple more, although we don’t need them at all, just incase IKEA stop selling them

TheFairyCaravan · 17/05/2026 23:20

Actually IKEA do a beige cover for the chair I linked, so maybe you could dye it pink like @Tumbler777 did?

More red than pink

£200 for the chair and £60 for the footstool. Way within budget. And it swivels 😊

wand3rer · 18/05/2026 05:14

But if you want to spend more of your budget, this one is perfect 😊

You can choose the exact colour:

Get a second hand one on ebay or FBMP or Vinterior or freecycle that you like the shape of and get it reupholstered in a fabric you love. Better for the environment, better quality than high street, and unique to you. I got a couple of Ercol chairs on ebay and did this, they look fab and were much less than buying brand new even though the fabric I used was agood quality wool fabric.

How much did your reupholstering cost? I got some quotes and they were £££.

How much did your reupholstering cost? I got some quotes and they were £££.

So I paid £250 total for the two chairs (models 315 and 317) with their original upholstery on ebay. I then paid £1200 total for their upholstery and restaining of the wood, the fabric was about 1/4 of that total price. In comparison a brand new Ercol of similar design would cost about £2K now. So I have two Ercols for £1450 vs £4K if I bought brand new (and got the vintage design I wanted). However, you can find Ercol chairs online that have been reupholstered for less.
