Messed up on sofa order

Totally messed up on made to measure sofas and can’t take them back! Just had an extension done and plan was to have a corner sofa and dining table.

For some reason, DH suggested last minute to get 2 separate ones and we didn’t account for the depth of them so now they have arrived, the arm of one essentially overlaps with the seat of the one on the other wall!

im absolutely gutted, i wanted a modern look, instead it looks overcrowded and has made the space feel really small.

Aside from replace them as we can’t afford that, does anyone have any tips on how to make it look less awful.

How much have you spent?

Mirandadapanda · 16/04/2026 17:47

We need a picture or diagram of the room and space, don't worry there will be a way

Doggymummar · 16/04/2026 17:48

Pop them on marketplace and go again

Barleyhot · 16/04/2026 17:48

Did you not agree with DH but he went ahead anyway?

WTFisNaice · 16/04/2026 17:48

Can you put them on opposite walls to each other?

Favouritefruits · 16/04/2026 17:49

Can you not send them back? Did you order them online and had them less than 14days?

About £4,000 I think so definitely stuck with it

@Favouritefruits
They were custom made. The op has no rights to a refund.

HoldItAllTogether · 16/04/2026 17:52

Id find two sofas more comfortable than a corner sofa as each person gets their own corner. Do the Arms come off? Are you sure you’ve tried every way to place them? What about a smaller table that you can extend when needed?

FeelingSadToday1 · 16/04/2026 17:55

Can you post a picture OP? People can be very helpful on here with regards to room/layout ideas etc.

The only option is to swap dining table with sofas. Or stick as is.

But that’s it

Kamek · 16/04/2026 17:58

Would they fit better in the space where your dining table currently is ?

Arlanymor · 16/04/2026 17:59

Does all of that furniture have to be in the same room - can one of the sofas go in the lounge? Presumably the dining table also has chairs with it, so you probably have ample seating in the extension were you to move one of the sofas elsewhere.

ClearlyNoIdea · 16/04/2026 17:59

I'd be moving the dining table over and putting sofas in that space.

I think we will have to try that but the dining area is very small and I think the sofas are going to look too big 😫and then the table will look too squished. honestly feel sick about it

OP posts:
Kamek · 16/04/2026 18:01

Could you put them facing each other so one has its back to the dining table?

CluelessInMyGarden · 16/04/2026 18:01

Could you sell them for £3k and get a corner sofa with that?

Castlerigg · 16/04/2026 18:01

Are the two sofas the same size? Could you arrange them differently, eg so that one sofa has its back to the dining table? If not, I guess sell one.

You’re not cross with dh are you? Unless you disagreed with the change and he overruled you

Shhush · 16/04/2026 18:03

I'd put the back of the bigger sofa towards the dining table or a sofa with its back towards the kitchen. The sofas dont need to be against the wall. I would be devastated, totally gutted for you OP.

Fandangoes · 16/04/2026 18:04

Turn your dining room table sideways, that should allow you to move the back sofa down towards the dining room end a little so it doesn’t overlap the other sofa. Or you can place one sofa with its back to the dining table to break up the space?

SoScarletItWas · 16/04/2026 18:08

Move table to where sofa is by door

Move sofas out to the left so they face each other

Difficult without dimensions of space / furniture.

ScaredOfFlying · 16/04/2026 18:09

I can’t tell where the overlap is from your description or your diagram.

do you have some sort of coffee table in the corner between them?

Could you get someone creative to cut off the arms and turn them into a corner set?
