Help me justify spending £160 on a kitchen bin

I need a new kitchen bin and really like one of the Simplehuman ones, but I am struggling to justify £160 when I’ve always had fairly cheap plastic ones before.

I can afford it…but £160!

Simplyhuman bins have a 10 year warranty. I’ve had mine 11 years but it was replaced during that time due to a breakage of a part and has had at least one further part replaced since then. Their customer service is excellent. The bin bags are expensive but I’ve never bothered to find cheaper alternatives. When it dies I’ll be getting another one.

What about the Airdeer Automatic Trash Can for £158 (Amazon). It’s self sealing, motion sensor opening with an auto bag refill. I’ve put one in the basket for a possible future purchase.

Bribanta all the way had mine 19 years and still going strong. Kids managed to break the pop lid by constantly banging it to open instead of a gentle press and they sent me a new bin lid!! Excellent service

Everyone on this thread with a Dualit toaster is with you OP.

Edited

I now totally understand why you would get one,

but

I don't use a toaster often enough or care enough about toast to justify a Dualit,

and

.....I don't really like the design...

😨

I have my new bin! 🥰

What does it do for the price tag?

Keeps the rubbish off the kitchen floor…🤣

I know what you mean though.
It is a ridiculous price when you can get a plastic bin for £10 and does the same basic job, which is why I started the thread.

I think it has been designed really well, like there are slot holes in the internal bins which means the air is squeezed out as you put the liner in; there is a dent so you can get hold of the internal bins to lift them out; there is a hand hole at the back so you can lift the whole thing easily, you can push a rod in the lid to make the lid stay open without keeping your foot on the pedal.

I’m sure other things will become apparent as time goes on from what PPs have said, like the pedal mechanism not breaking and that it is easy to clean and stays looking good.

Thought I’d let you know that I have a little ‘oo, my lovely new bin!’ moment every time I use it now 🥰

I also love mine, so thanks for starting this thread OP ✨️

Good on you, OP. I'm a great believer in getting the exact thing you want rather than a compromise if you can afford it.

Me too!

I get a picture in my head of how a thing should look and then nothing else seems quite right.

I’m now looking for a shower caddy, but I want a stainless steel one not a chrome plated one as however much they guarantee they are rust free, they just aren’t.

I cannot find one that I like despite the eleventy billion options on the internet. 🙄

You sound so like me OP. It took me well over 2 years to find new pasta bowls because I had a certain idea in my head and nowhere seemed to do them or if they did it cost a fortune. I ended up waiting for Denby ones I liked to go on sale but they still cost more than I originally wanted to spend.

I posted earlier but I also have a pricey kitchen bin (the Joseph Joseph Totem Max in stainless steel). DH thought the cost was ridiculous and I know it sort of is but every time I walk into the kitchen I’m like you with the “oh my lovely bin” thought. I’ve had it for well over a year now and the fact I still feel like that means it was worth the crazy money.

Which just goes to show that sometimes it’s worth spending more to get the one you really really want!
