What colour kitchen units?

NC. The tiles are beige and staying, the worktop is fairly neutral. Flooring can change (I want to change it anyway)
walls are polished pebble

trying to choose a colour for having the kitchen sprayed. It’s open plan so attached a pic of the living room which is a mix of blues and greens
I really like De Nimes and the flooring in this inspo pic… any other ideas? Not sure if it will be too dark

De Nimes looks lovely. However suits Shaker style more than slab doors.

I do also like Mizzle…

Could you get new doors made before spraying so you get the shaker look? I think that style of kitchen will look quite dated whatever colour you do.

Think that blue or a sage green would look nice colour wise.

CherryblossomRose · 25/03/2026 21:37

I'd go for something like F&B Green Smoke.

I agree. Can you use AI to do it on your actual kitchen cupboards?

I would rather not - only as I’m doing it on a budget and the units/doors are perfect condition! I basically want to change the colour and flooring to get another 5-10 years out the kitchen

I wouldn't change the doors. I would paint the walls a blue or white. In an ideal world it's the tiles that need updating not the cupboards. The reason it looks blah at the moment is that you have clashing shades of neutral, pale brown beige grey and nothing to highlight. But the cupboards should not be the highlight or the kitchen will feel smaller.

Nettleskeins · 25/03/2026 22:12

You need a warm red rug (typical Persian /kelim carpet colours or a rug with some reds and pinks in it not GREY) in the living area and then pick up with some reds or oranges in the kitchen - ornament/ toaster/kettle? Your wood floor and cupboards are clashing with that grey rug and the rug is the easiest thing to change not the cupboard door colour!

ImAMinion · 25/03/2026 22:13

Out of curiosity, have you had quotes for the cupboard spraying? I’m considering it for mine, I have the same issue, kitchen is the last room of my house to do (and I can’t afford a new one) and I have again the beige cupboards, beige (mozaic) tiles, cream coloured floor tiles and originally the walls were magnolia - they are now white (painted in lockdown) and am looking to spray the cupboards. Have no clue what cost to expect!

I really like it!

personally I'd replace the tiles (but I loath & detest any kind of beige anything!)I'd do the tiling myself if I wanted to save money.

It's all so personal isn't it.

i would hate red accents & I live the de nines in the cupboard doors, only thing we agree on is the tiles 🤣

Kylie M interiors is quite a good interiors blog which explains how flooring colour works with cupboard and splashback and worktop. It's a Canadian blog. All the paint colours can be matched with a e paint converter so you can imagine them in farrow and ball valspar and Dulux. I found it a revelation for explaining where I was going wrong with the layers...floor, cupboard, worktop, splashback, walls. Lots of pictures of sprayed wooden cabinets too but not always

I can’t do red at all - not only do I hate it but it then means painting the entire open plan kitchen/living room and stripping wallpaper!

Around £1500

You could have green/ yellow accents or purple accents not red, just something to break the monotony, I'm just using red as a example...farrow and ball has some good palettes in there with the "extra" colour, like a tiny amount of green to zing the blues. So you start with De Nimes and maybe find that your neutral cupboard door to go with that is the existing wood colour but your accessories are De Nimes or your tea towels or you find blue and white tiles.

The walls are very very pale blue grey, they’ve been white in the past

i agree on the tiles, I didn’t choose them as they were already in (bought as a new build)
annoyingly there is masses of tiles, the entire windowsill and backsplash plus all the kitchen is tiled (and who the fuck picks BEIGE tiles?!)

I believe they can be sprayed so that’s an option…

I basically want to perk it up a bit without forking out masses as the kitchen is 20 years old

a few more pics, one shows the wall colour well and the rest of the room

definitely leaning towards a patterned floor like my inspo pic. Just sick of the sight of the kitchen cupboards colour! I like greys, blues and greens if it wasn’t obvious Grin

The De Nimes looks lovely. Agree the tiles will let the side down when it’s done. Have a look at vinyl tile stickers to give them a refresh.

If you watch last year’s interior design masters final on the iPlayer they did a budget refresh of a very similar kitchen using vinyl tile stickers and painting the units blue. It looked fabulous when finished.

BeFairOliveBear · 25/03/2026 22:52

A soft grey green like pigeon or mizzle would be lovely. Ideally you could change the tiles or cover with vinyl stickers as they do clash.

Had a check and they can spray them…(the tiles)

so I could have them sprayed any colour match which makes it harder to pick now!
white tiles, then patterned floor and de nimes cupboards?

It's chatGPT. You can mess around with it. Ask for different colours, floors etc
It's not 100% accurate with colours, de nimes is a bit lighter and greyer than shown but it gives you a good idea.Whatever colour you pick for your cupboards the websites usually show complementary colours so you could pick one of those for your tiles.

kitchendoors · 25/03/2026 23:03

I just asked it and it changed my kitchen cupboard style but anyway… that’s with the tiles turned white and a floor change
