I’ve seen this table on FB marketplace. It’s over £1200 new but they’re selling for £300.

what’s your opinion on it? Would it be easy to maintain etc?

I think it looks gross, and like it will be heavy and impractical to maintain

Like the grange hill kids...Just say no.

Yeah it’s genuine marble. I don’t think it’s scam - she posted a photo of it in her house and the profile has a mutual friend

It’s horrendous. The sort of tat I would expect to see in Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright’s home.

Andromed1 · 06/12/2025 22:39

Are you sure it would look good in your house? My friend has a similar one, it looks strange with her other furniture and is also freezing cold to touch.

Ineffable23 · 06/12/2025 22:40

It's really not my bag. But I am still using an ancient mahogany gate leg table that really needs entirely sanding down and refinishing and has done for the last ten years.

Dogmum1983 · 06/12/2025 22:45

Well that was nice of everyone to basically tell the op she’s got shit taste if she was serious about getting it .

OP at the end of the day if you like it then that’s your opinion . Most of Mumsnet hate grey anyway . Some people have pink bathrooms and people will always hate on them . Just coz it’s not anyone else’s taste doesn’t mean you can’t like it … who cares what everyone else thinks , they ain’t gotta live with it in their house.

Bwiblestix · 06/12/2025 22:46

It really is tacky and atrocious. Screams wannabe WAG in a 3 bed semi.

Ineffable23 · 06/12/2025 22:49

Practical questions: would you find it got tea stained/tomato stained/red wine stained? Would it being made of marble increase the risk of cups etc breaking? I think I would be too clumsy. Would you be prepared to clean and polish the legs regularly? If you don't have little ones it would probably be alright from a polishing perspective but I suspect sticky fingers on it with any regularity would become tiresome quickly unless you're a more diligent cleaner than me!

LindaMcCartney · 06/12/2025 22:49

Note the equally hideous fake grass outside

soupyspoon · 06/12/2025 22:52

I'm more shocked by the carpeted conservatory. Urgh and grey as well, predictable.

purplehearts21 · 06/12/2025 22:55

The snobby comments on here are vile. When their house probably smells like cat piss.

It’s clearly real grass. Are you blind?

Flipping horrific.

I would personally give it a miss OP.

The OP literally asked ‘What’s your opinion?’

Loveablockheel · 06/12/2025 23:01

This very table and chairs has been the subject of a thread a few years back, I
if I remember correctly the original owner was asking how to style it to fit in to her conservatory that the OP has pictured!

What's snobby about having a like or dislike? Jesus, god forbid anyone has an opinion on anything these days.

waltzingparrot · 06/12/2025 23:29

Not my taste but if you love it, go for it.

Unless you have small children because I think it would be an impossible task to get permanent marker of that if they scribbled on it when you weren't looking.

You can say you don’t like something without sounding like a stuck up knob. The comments about 3 bed semi and wags are just uncalled for really, but it’s how they make themselves feel good I suppose.

Rosamutabilis · 06/12/2025 23:53

That really is an awful table. The velvet chairs with studs are terrible too, I'm surprised they haven't got door knockers on the back just for the final tasteless finishing touch. It's very wannabe footballers' wives circa 2015. It's being sold because it was part of a trend which was of a particular moment and is now very past it and incredibly dated

Please tell me it was purplehearts21?

Slightyamusedandsilly · 06/12/2025 23:59

Vulgar and tacky. You couldn't pay me to have it in my house.

Well it looks ridiculous in a 3 bed semi doesnt it? As evidenced in front of your own very eyes in the picture in the thread.

So yes, its bought by people who want to pretend they're living in some sort of Italian 18c mansion, but in a Bexley end of terrace.

JudgeBread · 07/12/2025 17:07

It's not my style at all and I do think it's going to date very quickly as this kind of over the top grey-on-grey-on-chrome-on-marble look is already going out of style. Unsurprising that every visible piece of furniture (and the garden fence!) in the sellers house is also grey, it's definitely a vibe that has been trendy for the last decade or so but is very much on the way out.

That said, if it's genuine and that's the price it'd normally be it is a bargain if it's the sort of thing you like! I would think it'd be a nightmare to keep clean though, every surface is shiny!

DuchessofStaffordshire · 07/12/2025 17:16

Heavens.

Lovetosurf · 07/12/2025 17:18

I think the only way that might possibly work is if you went full out maximalist and in a dining room. Very dark painted walls, low light, lots of dark cotton velvet and some interesting antiques and textures etc, etc.

Stick it in a bog standard average 3 bed house and it is impractical and looks ridiculous.
