White Cotton Bedding Recommendations - Crisp and Cool Feel!

Please help to find some new cotton bedding. Currently have M&S Egyptian Cotton 230 thread cotton but starting to fray after many years. Reordered the same sheet and quality has significantly deteriorated. The set I have is excellent quality, smooth percale and with a crisp/cool feel. The new set received couldn't have been more different, literally rough with micro bobbles in the fabric all over.

I ordered Costco 800 hotel collection range, but far too heavy/satin for me. Any suggestions?

Hoping I find something from this thread too as this weather makes me want white. Pure white

The White Company

Mykittensmittens · 14/07/2025 20:52

Yes to the white company. I have 2 flat sheets and 6 pillow cases which we had as a wedding gift 15 years ago and they are still crispy and bright and cool like nothing else. I love them.

also a gifted set of susie Watson sheets and pillow cases which again are like white company - super crisp and cooling - not sure they are even available anymore.

next best is M&S but they’re still not as good.

so watching the rest.

i like my sheets so crispy you can fold them like a bit of a4!

I have an obsession with ‘the perfect’ white cotton bedding. 😊My bed has to feel like I’m in a 5 star hotel (as staying in fancy hotels on business in my previous life has ruined me). My absolute favourite best cotton bedding is the 600 thread count from Tielle. OMG it’s incredible! Actually all of Tielle’s bedding is great. I started with their 300 thread count as a cheaper ‘tester’ and I’m very happy with it. But I ruined myself by buying their 600 count fitted sheet and now it’s almost impossible to prise me out of bed. 😂

A slightly cheaper alternative to Tielle is Richard Haworth’s Savoy which is almost as good (but not quite) and is actually used at the Savoy.

Prior to settling on Tielle and Richard Haworth, I tried Soak & Sleep, Cologne & Cotton and Dusk. All pretty solid but not in the same league.

Hotel Quality Bed Linen | Tielle

Turn your bedroom into a stylish retreat with luxury bed sheets. Go cool & crisp or soft & silky with 200-600 thread count bed linen & luxury bed linen sets

@HundredMilesAnHour I am about to treat myself to some sumptuous bedding but it describes the 600 count linen flat sheet as ‘smooth and silky’ I don’t like silky- is this correct? Have you had White Company bedding before? I love their products-if yes, how do they compare? Thanks for the info.

@abracadabra1980 I love silky! And yes the 600 count is silky. I’d drop to 300 or 400 if you’re not keen on silky.

I find Tielle and Richard Haworth better quality than the White Company. They supply actual 5 star hotels rather than the domestic home market and I find the quality much better and long lasting. But it depends what you like. I want my bed to feel like I’m back in a suite at the Sofitel. 😆

I’ve just treated myself to some linen bedding from Piglets in Bed. It was recommended by top designers. They’ve got a 25% off sale at the moment.

As I type this, as I prepare to get into my lovely newly changed Tielle bedding, I’m wearing a Piglet linen nightie. I love Piglet for linen nightwear (linen bedding is too rough for my silky tastes lol but I do like linen PJs or nighties when it’s hot).

Just revisited after a couple of hours and lots of suggestions! Thanks so much! I’m very close to a White Company so will have a look in the flesh at those.

I really do want smooth cool sheets...I have no idea what to get and all previous purchases have frankly left me having a grumpy sleep so please let me know how you all get on with your buys!

Sellenis · 14/07/2025 22:43

The silkiness isn't the thread count, it's the weave. You want percale, not sateen, if you want crisp cotton.

TitsInAbsentia · 14/07/2025 22:45

So does percale mean a smoother weave? Why am I only learning this now!

TitsInAbsentia · 14/07/2025 22:46

Does this sound right?

"The best thread count is 200-400 for percale, 300-600 for sateen, and 300-500 for Egyptian cotton sheets."

Sellenis · 14/07/2025 23:34

Not smoother, but crisper. Percale is a one over, one under weave and the grid pattern gives that crisp snapping feel. Sateen is four over, one under, which makes it feel silky (like satin - that's the point of this weave, which you can do with different textiles).

The thread count goes higher on sateen because it's more fragile and you need to really pack them in to get the "luxe" feeling. If you pack more than 400 on a percale it goes too stiff and it's not good for bedding.

I mean... I think so anyway. I learned this a million years ago at the poly in Manchester so don't quote me. I do recall we had a little wooden square to count the weft and weave, haha.

@yoshiblue What did you end up buying? Any recommendations?

Zanzara · 04/10/2025 16:09

I got a load of 500 tc 100% Egyptian cotton flat sheets a while ago from a seller on eBay for incredibly cheap prices. I sent for just one pair to check the quality, then went back and filled my boots. Look for sellers in northern mill towns - mine came from Bradford and were only about £11 each for king size. Excellent quality and they have washed very well.

yoshiblue · 03/01/2026 12:56

@HundredMilesAnHour@LoveWine123Reviving this thread as I’m finally ordering some sheets! Tielle are my choice but I’m awaiting a swatch pack to decide on 200 or 300. I actually don’t think the prices are too bad for there full bundle.

LoveWine123 · 03/01/2026 13:53

@yoshiblue I got the swatch pack a couple of months ago but I didn’t order anything. The quality seems very good and I’m sure they will be great, but unfortunately they don’t do cotton percale which is what I was after for the crisp feeling. If you like sateen then I’m sure you will find them great. I ended up ordering from the white company (brushed cotton for the winter - the Farne range - which has been amazing) and some of their cotton percale sheets. Very happy with the quality so far. Let us know of what you end up ordering.
