How would you lay out this room ?

I've a small room 9ft by 7ft approx that I have to use as my main room. I'd put the bed side ways by the window it just fits but looks awful. If I put it against the back wall the door doesn't open properly . I can't rehang the door as it will crash into the other doors . Any brainwaves ? Would really appreciate your help . Xxx

What about sliding/folding door? Or have a sofa bed instead of the bed?

I just left a horrible marriage and moved into a new house and bought the bed as a treat me / fresh start. I really want to keep it . Sliding door would go over the light switch. It's also like a boring long box

My room is the same size and my bed is below the window. Could you move it and show us what it's like there? How bad does it look? Also it's a lovely room.

The bed covers nearly all the window and I'm just looking at a blank wall rather than lovely trees

Can you change the door to a halve split vertical door? That would be cute ☺️

We have these in my house for two tiny rooms. They work ok though not very fire safe and bit noisy. They're old though. I'm sure new ones could be good.

Just turn your head and look at the trees? The bed would look great under the window and give you so much more room.

Ohh no mine have a hinge in the middle and are in a track. Like mini bifold doors only wood not glass. Reckon they'd be great for this space.

Love the colours!

Wouldn’t it! I think it would really suit ❤️

Move the chest of drawers so that it's not right next to the wall with the window.
A little bit of corner will look a lot better,

Leave the door as it is.

Lovely bed op! Congratulations on your new home. Do you own or are you renting? If owned, I’d buck convention and have the door rehung to open out onto the hallway (if possible).

If rented, I think it’s a case of either putting it under the window - this will give you the best space and use of the room, or leave it where it is. A shelf rather than a bedside table would work well in that case.

I’d also move the drawers to opposite wall.

Put it under the window and get some lovely stick on wallpaper to look at - a forest path, maybe.

I like the bifold door idea, too.

Own but then everyone will walk into the door . Also my daughters room next door is worse - you can't open the door at all so think I need to rehang hers more

Could you just close the door?! Then you wouldn't notice! As long as you can fit through it's fine!

Or go for the folding/half door suggested by pp.

EricTheGardener · 03/06/2025 20:03

Could you put the bed under the window long-ways? So the headboard where the chest of drawers is now? Or would it be too long? I'm thinking something like this - not necessarily style-wise, but layout:

Sunrise8888 · 03/06/2025 20:08

You probably just need to play around with the layout. Could move the bed a bit further so the door opens, then move chest of drawers next to the door. Bed would be more like in the middle, but need to see how it looks. Also, I would hang day curtains, like see through but it’s up to everyone’s taste.

If you put the bed under the window facing down towards the door, you could put a huge mirror on the wall (over where the existing bed is). Then you'd see the trees reflected in the mirror from your pillow!

I hope you'll be very happy there. It's such a cosy room, and you will find a solution, don't worry.

Emanwenym · 03/06/2025 20:24

Bed under the window would be bad feng shui.
