What kind of napkins do you use at meal times?

We normally use basic kitchen roll and I buy some nicer paper napkins when we have guests around but am a bit fed up and was thinking of getting some fabric napkins instead.
What do people normally use? Do you also do napkin rings? Any nice ones to recommend?

plain cotton napkins for everyday use and fancier linen ones if we have guests.

Shame you didn't learn to communicate without being snide.

I am (genuinely, not being snidey) confused about what a napkin is for?
If it's just to put on your lap to catch crumbs, then I can see it being reused from meal to meal.
If to wipe sticky hands and faces, like after eating a greasy ketchup burger or buttered corn on the cob, surely fabric would get stained?
Disclosure.. I don't use napkins.
