Previously have bought from Swoon and Arlo & Jacob - both disaster purchases. The former looks really tattered after minimal use, has not held its shape. The latter needs CONSTANT refluffing.

I'm a fan of the low looking sofas that are so deep they could double up as a bed for family snuggles/ reading. Any recommendations? Feels dodgy spending thousands on sofas I won't see beforehand and that rarely have reviews!

NOT the Lounge Company. I got expensive sofas from there in lockdown and they look like shit now. Feathers come out on a daily basis, you have to constatntly plump them, they sent feather cushions instead of foam as requested and then said it would be 6m to swap them, customer service were crap, the sales people were snooty.

They were to replace sofas I bought from Furniture Village 15 years before which were 100 times better.

I’ve got a loaf armchair which is actually fairly comfortable, low seating and deep too. It was a bit of an eye watering price but I waited til the sale and just chose the cream ‘house’ fabric. I actually wanted a green chair but it was a few £100 more expensive and not worth the extra imo. Tried the sofa out too which was similar.
Appreciate that Loaf is a bit of a marmite brand !
I’ve got an old multiyork sofa which is great, still in great nick, and if the company hadn’t shut down would probably have an armchair made by them too.

Ah yes, the holy grail of a good replacement for Multiyork! No help from me I'm afraid, still massively regretting getting rid of my old Multiyork and replacing it with the worlds most uncomfortable Parker Knoll, which after a few weeks looked as if it was year old!

And so few places where you can actually see/sit on a sofa before you commit ££££ to buy one.

Have tried to look at Wesley Barrell but not send they exist any more

I've got Adventures in Furniture and I think they're amazing. Was pretty dear but a worthwhile investment.

hoochycrone · 23/03/2024 16:06

Oh gosh I miss multiyork!
Heals sofa here, was £££ but is a bit meh.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/03/2024 18:21

Following with interest. Mine cost a fortune and is in a really sorry state. I need two more really but I wince at the prices whenever I start looking. I like the look of loaf's Jonesey range but they are very deep and M&S Rochester range

I also just had no clue whatsoever what I was doing when I sat on the Arlo and Jacob one, nice and fluffy in the show room, limp constantly rearranged disaster at home!

IKEA

justasking111 · 23/03/2024 18:32

Multiyork went bump in 2017. That's sad

Angrymum22 · 23/03/2024 18:43

Collins & Hayes, just had new set of loose covers for our two sofas that are 24 yrs old. They are solid oak frame and a very classic design. I do need to replace one of the casters but they are otherwise as good as new.
The company keep the patterns for some of their classic designs so you can have new covers made.

ShebaQueen · 23/03/2024 19:05

M&S - the quality is excellent. Ours is 5 years old now and still looks great.

Darlings of Chelsea.

Pricey but well made AND they have showrooms with lots of different sofa styles.

debauchedsloth · 13/01/2025 10:42

Don't get sofa.com!! I bought a gorgeous one for ££££ it was beautiful but omg so uncomfortable- went flat, hard AND did that sliding out thing. Horrid.
So went to DFS and for half the price of the posh sofa bought the best sofa in the universe.
Never needs plumping. Looks fab. Isn't so low that I have to grunt getting in and out ! And is so comfy.

I think unless you're a show-home type person, then foam cushions are the way to go. Feathers while gorg when plumped, are simply too much effort and when you sit for a while you inevitably squish the air out making the seat hard.
Bloody love my DFS sofa.

debauchedsloth · 13/01/2025 10:43

Also prior to having spare £££ I always bought sofas from eBay. You can get super bargains!

Im sitting on a tetrad sofa which is around 20 years old and only now starting to show wear. Hoping to replace it sometime in the next year with their matisse one - i prefer sprung seats so there is no plumping required.

Quality sofas

John Lewis sofas are the worst thing they do imo. So darn uncomfortable- hard and kind of disappointing

The first post was negative about The Lounge Company but our experience has been great - bought a massive sofa in their most robust fabric in 2019 and it’s survived six years of little kids and lockdown. When I give it a good vacuum it looks like new, and is still super comfortable.

justasking111 · 13/01/2025 13:40

My son and DIL bought two sofas from Oak furniture land. They're so comfortable with big side cushions a lovely material. I'm very jealous.

WildCherryBlossom · 13/01/2025 15:00

Ah, I disagree with @debauchedsloth !

I bought a sofa.com Bluebell this summer and couldn't be more delighted. It's absolutely gorgeous. The cushions are feather wrapped foam so you can plump to freshen up and make them look more voluptuous but they hold their shape. It's firm enough but still forgiving. Best of all the customer service was outstanding. It was made up in my choice of fabric and delivered in under 5 weeks. Delivery guys put it exactly where I wanted and checked I was completely happy with it.
