Dark Green walls in living room?

The decorator starts next week and I am tempted by a lovely colour called Pine Needles - its a very very dark green with blue undertones. It is for a west facing room which gets a lot of light. I have been looking at other greens but keep coming back to it, am just concerned it will be too much. White ceiling, woodwork and maybe chimney breast which is brick. Am I crazy?

Not crazy at all! I just found this as an illustration - can you link the actual colour you're looking at? Love green in all its moods and shades personally and I think in a light room with white you can you can you can!

I have done pretty much the same as in the picture above, just with a more olive green, Bancha, Farrow and Ball. I love it. I painted my 1950's fireplace black and white too. The other walls are a light colour as it would be overwhelming for the whole room.

Thanks All! @TheBossOfMe , that is a beautiful colour! As is bancha, @Takentomybed .

I just uncovered the wall above the fireplace which is natural brick - I kind of like them but was thinking I may paint the wooden mantle and the bricks in a white colour.

Ooo yes that's a beaut! We're moving in a few weeks and I'm champing at the bit to get my hands on some paint colours and wallpaper AND plants for the garden...
So I'm doing a bit of living vicariously here. 😂

MindHowYouGoes · 16/02/2024 17:48

That’s a beautiful colour! Do it!

Atethehalloweenchocs · 16/02/2024 17:50

Thanks @heldinadream ! I am getting quite excited now. The living and dining rooms have an arch between them, and I am now looking for colours for that room too. Tempted by a light pink - the back room is very very dark but has lovely patio doors with lots of green visible behind.

Do it! I have a green lounge and my friend has Bancha- it's stunning!

If you have kids, are they little? I painted ours midnight blue over lockdown. Lasted a year before painted cotton white, as despite a huge room, 20 spotlights and almost floor to ceiling windows, the light was awful for taking photos (I had a 2 yo, pics necessary). I've kept our bedroom dulux emerald green though I think the shade is. Beautiful colour.

Go for it - my sitting room is a deep blue green and I love it. We get enough light in the room that it doesn't feel dark but is lovely and cosy on dark evenings.

Takentomybed · 16/02/2024 20:19

That guild green is very similar to the colour I have. Go for it!

Sarvanga38 · 16/02/2024 20:22

I have F&B Green Smoke. I love it, as does everyone who visits, it seems - people rave about it.

thistimenextyearplease · 16/02/2024 20:30

Oooooo thinking of going dark green in the living room too. Those that have, did you go green on a feature wall or all over? Thinking about doing ceiling and skirting boards too. But would this be too far!

Atethehalloweenchocs · 17/02/2024 16:34

I am going for white ceiling and skirting @thistimenextyearplease , although I love the look of coloured ceilings. Not quite brave enough for that, though!

We have deep teal in an east facing room. We like it a lot. I’d go for it.

I have a similar dark green in my living room (Puck by Little Greene). I've painting the walls, woodwork and ceiling in it. I love it. It absorbs light so lots of pools of soft light is better in the evening or you'll be forced to keep the big light on. I've got 2 lamps, electrics candles in holders on the shelves, fairy lights around the mirror and 3 glass jars that hold tealights.

It looked alarming when I first painted it but after adding furnishings it's beautiful. Even people who don't like dark colours compliment it.

We have dark green in our living room, it's valspar warm eucalyptus, except it looks nothing like the colour sample of it on their website, much greener in our house. We painted skirting boards and door too. I love it. We only really use that room in the evening and it was dark anyway so we just embraced it, lots of lamps, fire etc. So cosy, I love it! It's more of an emerald green in our living room. It looks amazing at Christmas time.

My snug is Green Smoke, Farrow and Ball, above picture rail and ceiling. Get so many positive comments about it.
Go for it. Its super.

Gettingbysomehow · 17/02/2024 23:03

Wonderful. My walls are dark green and they look fantastic even in a small room with hardly any natural light.

OooScotland · 18/02/2024 01:11

Oh yes. I have ‘card room green’ in my living room. With the logburner on at night its so soothing and nest like I have to force myself to go to bed.

DIYnovices · 18/02/2024 07:46

We have put up a picture rail in our dark green room. The picture rail and above it are painted white, as is the ceiling. This helps to lighten the look a bit.

The paint colour you’ve picked is GORGEOUS! But please don’t paint your bricks white. I think you’ll really regret it. Could you leave them as they are? This pic gives you a nice idea of how well dark green walls and exposed brick go together

Oh @Notallmilsarebad , that is absolutely beautiful. I think that may be the way to go.

We also have Little Greene Invisible Green in our west-facing living room - on all the walls, skirts, radiators and ceiling. It’s so cosy. It’s part of an open plan space so it also functions as a way to delineate between spaces. The decorator asked me so many times if I was sure and I did have a crisis mid-way through as it looked black when it was going on. But I love it! I think if you’re going to go for dark colours you’ve got to really just go for it.
