But I’m having a wobble and wondering about this instead

I love the first one. If you are not planning to move soon, go with what you like.

DuchessOfSausage · 27/01/2024 08:17

I don't like either of them. The one in the photo is ok.
A colir nearer sage green would be better.

Definitely Hopper, olive can be drab unless it's brightly lit.
And it's probably easier to accessorise with similar shades or a contrasting colour if that's something you want to do.

I agree with this in terms of your light.

Between the 2, I chose Olive (not for a kitchen though) as although Hopper is an amazing colour it was just too bright for my space. I chose Olive which looks great, not at all boring, and looks different at different times of day. Certainly not avocado bathroom! I would definitely buy testers and paint on sheets of paper to stick in different parts of your kitchen. I think both would be amazing for a kitchen though!

What are worried about OP? If you’d never seen the olive would you still be having second thoughts do you think? Sometimes too much choice is not helpful either.
It all comes down to personal taste. I like the olive as it’s more tonally complementary to other colours I like. FWIW I painted my kitchen/dining area walls a similar colour (Valspars Mountain Moss) and kept cabinets neutral to give me the kick of colour I wanted. It’s right under a roof light so you see the colour, paired it with black skirting and door trim, and it makes my heart sing every time. Good luck and would love to see what you go with!

I'd find it impossible to choose a colour from a colour card. Your kitchen light will make these shades come to life or die a death and it's impossible for anyone to know which. I am painting my whole house at the moment and I am constantly amazed by how colours change depending on the light even when I am painting two rooms with the same orientation.

The shades of green you are going for aren't mainstream, don't let that put you off.

Lavenderosa · 27/01/2024 10:54

I hope I'm not stating the obvious but you will be buying sample pots and trying them out in your kitchen won't you?

I painted my bedroom walls dark green and it took several samples before I settled on Little Greene Ambleside. The green I thought looked best on the card, didn't look great in my bedroom light.

BeardieWeirdie · 27/01/2024 11:23

Mine is Little Greene Puck - love it!

I wouldn’t go for either. I would get a shade mixed that’s a little darker than olive, I think that would match the dark shade in the picture better. For me Hopper to too vibrant and might be difficult to live with and olive not quite dark enough though it could be deceptive.Maybe it would be possible to get a sample pot and try it in your kitchen.

lookwhatyoudidthere · 27/01/2024 14:42

Definitely olive colour.

Yousay55 · 27/01/2024 15:18

The first one is classic

ACourseInstead · 27/01/2024 15:49

Thank you everybody! Yes I have samples and also the kitchen co have given me boards of the wood they use painted in the colours. We did think about Bancha but DH thought it was too spinach soup.

It’s reassuring to hear lots of people like Hopper. I love it but I’m just fretting about whether I’m being too bold. Hoping never to move so I don’t need to worry about what a buyer might like.

The first one! Bright and bold and lovely.

RogueFemale · 27/01/2024 22:38

I think both colours are too dark. But if I had to choose I'd go for Olive not Hopper as Olive is subtler.

Look at other greens, there are so many beautiful ones.

Also, search the paint colours on Instagram to see real life rooms painted in the colour.

Lizzyinatizzy · 27/01/2024 23:10

If it’s a strong green you like I think that puck one above is lovely.
we weren’t brave enough for such a bold green and went with Farrow and Ball Green smoke which are very happy with but the paint was horrible to use!

Love LG Portland stone, it has different tones in different lights - love warmer tones! Fed up looking at grey decor, so boring & cold!
