No gingham wouldn’t work too clashy. I’d go for a colour in the wallpaper, a blush pink or a dark green.

Elasticatedwaist · 05/12/2023 14:43

I was thinking gingham and florals work together but maybe gingham might be too bedroomy. There are two windows next to each other and are plain cream walls. I need made to measure curtains but don’t want to make a mistake and have to look at them with loathing for the duration 🥴
im crap at choosing things.

Not gingham, it wouldn’t go it the florals. There would be too much pattern in a small space.

I agree with PP - choose a heavy, plain fabric using one of the wallpaper colours. Dark pink would be my preference.

No they would just clash, it’s not about being bedroomy. A nice heavy fabric in a plain colour as the pp said would work. Something like a dark emerald green or blush velvet, chenille or silk

Checks and florals mix very nicely.

yarnwitch · 05/12/2023 15:59

I think a gingham in the cream and green colours you have could work. I think your best bet would be finding somewhere that does fabric samples to try first though.

NellyBarney · 05/12/2023 17:48

Gingham could be really great but take time to check swatches and photos in situ. Slim lines (ticking fabric) might be slightly easier to match, like olive stripes on cream.

NellyBarney · 05/12/2023 17:55

This blog has some examples of florals with stripes and/or gingham fabrics.

Gingham would be perfect for a country house/grandmillenial/Homes & Gardens feel but get LOADS of decent-sized samples as the check size and colour can vary so much; I think you need a decent size square to balance the florals or a micro gingham. Chestnut red if you’re into disruptor colours, otherwise pick up the pink from the wallpaper – there’s already enough green in the room.

Houseplanter · 05/12/2023 18:02

Checks or stripes would be fine with floral IMO. Quite a traditional look.

ChateauDuMont · 05/12/2023 18:24

Look up Laura Ashley from the 80s/90s, floral was and check or stripe curtains was very popular and still looks lovely today.

AllAroundMyCat · 05/12/2023 18:24

Not stripes.

Muted gingham /tartan in a toning colour would be lovely.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 05/12/2023 18:27

Yep 100% you can use checks/gingham with florals! So much better to have contrasting patterns working together than everything ‘matching’. I echo the person who said get plenty of swatches. Look at country homes and interiors for inspo, they often have pieces on pattern matching/clashing which I find useful as I am great with colours but poor with pattern!

DRS1970 · 05/12/2023 18:29

I don't think a check pattern would go with your floral print. Sorry.

WhatNoUsername · 05/12/2023 18:35

I'd go for a dark green velvet. Make the whole thing from front roomy. I love the paper but could look a bit bedroomy if you aren't careful.

PattyDuckface · 05/12/2023 18:37

It will work, it'll look great.
Go for it, I think it's a fantastic idea.

Guiltypleasures001 · 05/12/2023 18:38

Hi op
Is it ok to ask what paint colour you have used on the walls ? Grin

Ebokebok · 05/12/2023 18:46

I think these would look good.

Gingham and floral would look lovely.

BettyBallerina · 05/12/2023 19:27

I’d go stripes rather than gingham. Stripes and florals go really well together. Love the wallpaper.

Meadowflower2023 · 05/12/2023 20:03

Absolutely! You have good taste OP, trust your gut when choosing the fabric swatches for the curtains. Which colour gingham are you considering? Personally I'd go for the darker green in the wallpaper. I can just imagine your room finished with a lovely eclectic mix of cushions on the sofa etc.. beautiful.

Partnersuntheuk · 05/12/2023 20:06

It's lovely, you've got good taste, I'd probably go for plainer or plain curtains myself.

Finestreason · 05/12/2023 20:08

I think the gingham and floral would look great together.
