I have a similar bed to this but my three pics are square and all the same size. Will it look ok?

Thank you wise MN people. 🙏

I don’t see why not. It’s quite a traditional look but looks like that’s what you’re going for.

Just make sure they're securely hung. I was once rudely awoken by a picture crashing down on top of me, luckily no glass involved.

Yes. Classic hopefully rather than dated! 🤞

Oh crikey!! What a horrible way to be woken up! Glad you were ok.

Yes if you google pictures above bed you will get some images come up with three square pictures. They look very stylish to me.

Thanks. I couldn’t find any with a curved bedstead like mine and three square frames of equal size. It’s either straight beds/headboards or two pictures, or the middle one is slightly bigger like the one attached. Im wondering if that’s because it will look rubbish.

@Picturequestion I second @mathanxiety advice!! DH once hung a large canvas on the wall over our bed and I got a bloody huge black eye from it falling on me in my sleep 😂

Picturequestion · 29/11/2023 22:20

This is the kind of bed. Then three square paintings

They will fit in a line and come within the the level of the brass knobs (10cm either side) with around 7cm between each pic. So they fit. But I don’t know if the strait edge along the bottom of the three pics will look right with the curved bedstead. I currently have an oval mirror.

Didnt attach. I’ll try again.

I would never hang pictures over a bed because of the fear they might fall down in the night! It's kind of good to know that does happen and I'm not mad.

Picturequestion · 29/11/2023 22:26

I found a photo with four pictures and a similar bed.

Personally, I would never hang pictures over my head because I would stress about it every night. Same for shelves or anything else that hangs on the wall.

But aesthetically, I think you idea sounds great and would look lovely Smile

I’d never given that a thought. I have a very heavy mirror over my bed at the moment and have started to feel nervous now!!

I've got a crap load of pictures above my bed and in my room (my own art). They're all very securely mounted onto 'planks' screwed to the wall.

Grimmz · 29/11/2023 22:29

A heavy mirror?!

Yes. An antique oval one. Should I worry? It’s been up for months. 😬

Did you never read Flat Stanley 😆

Picturequestion · 29/11/2023 22:45

How do these things suddenly fall off when they have been hung up for so long?
I think if my mirror fell on me it could kill me!! But it’s very secure. I can’t see what would change to make it suddenly fall.

Oooo. Where would I post myself to first?

I think they only look good if they are the right size and the right height. Lots of people hang them much too high and it looks weird (to me) and not very stylish

Yes. I need to think about how low to hang them. I was thinking closer to the bed frame than the ceiling?

Any advice?

OP posts:
Picturequestion · 29/11/2023 22:51

So the gap between the bed posts is 170cm.
from the highest bit of the frame (not the posts though) it’s 1 M to the ceiling.
The paintings are 46 cm. Square.

OP posts:
itsmeagainagain · 29/11/2023 22:51

definitely closer to the bed frame. Generally when you hang pictures on a wall the centre of the picture should be at eye level which I guess is subjective depending how tall you are! That rule might not work necessarily taking into account a bed frame though. I've always found erring on the side of lower rather than higher works for me!

itsmeagainagain · 29/11/2023 22:53

Above my bed I have a shelf which I can add pictures and books and plants and all sorts to and I love it! When we were putting it up my husband wanted it higher but I insisted on a bit lower and it looks really great (in my opinion!)
