We were advised to go for gloss as apparently easier to clean with a young family. Not quite finished but here it is. Hmm.. what do you think? Before is just wood cabinets I painted during lockdown.

I like it

Are you unsure op?

Broodywuz · 12/11/2023 13:12

Gorgeous, I love it!

Mamato29192 · 12/11/2023 13:12

Looks good 😊

JaninaDuszejko · 12/11/2023 13:15

That is clearly going to be easier too clean than the old fussy painted cabinets. What are your tiles like?

bobbyeatsocks · 12/11/2023 13:15

Thank you. I'm worried about the gloss and reading threads on here people saying it looks tacky or never looks clean. I'm sure the lady in the showroom said go for gloss if you have young children!

@JaninaDuszejko we're not tiling, just got the backsplash and going to paint the walls. I can't decide what colour though! x

Spritz, wipe, done. No little ledges for stuff to collect on.

MonumentalLentil · 12/11/2023 13:37

I had a gloss kitchen, it was always covered in fingerprints and blobs. It was dark blue though, which was not a wise choice, yours should be fine and less likely to show greasy fingerprints.

Seeleyboo · 12/11/2023 13:51

My gloss kitchen is the tipping point in my life. I hate it. Never again. Always grubby fingerprints. The showroom woman was BS you OP.

MissyB1 · 12/11/2023 13:54

Errr.. hate to say but my gloss kitchen (very similar to yours) is hard work. Constantly covered in fingerprints and marks. I want a kitchen like your old one!! I didn’t choose the gloss finish it was here when we moved in.

SabbatWheel · 12/11/2023 13:59

It’s lovely, quite similar to mine with the upstands and painted walls, although I have matt doors which are VERY easy to keep clean. I think the gloss finish will be more work but don’t sweat it - you’ve got a family and this is more important than keeping a kitchen pristine. A quick spritz once a month is all I give my doors (obvs tops are done every day). Live life, clean less, enjoy your lovely kitchen.

OdeToBarney · 12/11/2023 14:12

My old gloss kitchen never looked clean. Always fingerprints, and we didn't even have DC at the time! Now we've got a white ikea kitchen and it doesn't show fingerprints at all! Sorry OP, I think the salesperson was talking crap.

VerrryNiceIndeed · 12/11/2023 14:14

I didn’t know it was hard to keep gloss kitchens clean. Anyway it still looks lovely.

geoger · 12/11/2023 14:18

That’s lovely op - looks fab!
I have gloss and it’s so easy to keep clean. Spray, wipe and done. The secret is to use a product called White Maiic- it’s the best thing ever for glossy surfaces

amazing cleaning product

Mine's pretty similar except we went for wood counters. I don't find it hard to keep clean, but I'm not a perfectionist! Had a gloss one years ago that I loved, but in subsequent houses it's been wood which was terrible to keep clean, loads of nooks and crannies.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 12/11/2023 14:44

We have white gloss and no handles.Super easy to keep clean with a dry microfiber cloth and kitchen spray.

This exactly for me as well, when the sun shines looks horrendous sorry OP,will never get Gloss again.

Chaz59 · 12/11/2023 16:05

I've got white gloss ,easy too keep clean and that's with four little uns running around just a quick wipe over every day .

Funderthighs · 12/11/2023 16:37

We have cream gloss and it’s very easy to keep clean. We’ve had it for 5 years now and I still love it. Yours looks great.

pelagra · 12/11/2023 17:06

Fitted my second gloss kitchen last year. I wouldn't have anything else. So long as it's a pale colour, it is really easy to wipe over, and if any bits still look smeary they get buffed up with a tea towel.

My kitchen is North facing, and the extra light bouncing around makes a huge difference.

caringcarer · 12/11/2023 17:08

It looks nice OP.

Yup, sorry OP. When we had a kitchen refitted I was in Howden’s looking at doors and work surfaces and another customer (kitchen fitter) said don’t go for gloss.

One house move later and I have a white gloss kitchen 🙄 It’s south facing too, so if the doors aren’t looking streaky then they look dusty.

On the plus side, it makes the room very bright.

Lordofmyflies · 12/11/2023 17:38

It does look lovely OP but I have to agree with others - our gloss kitchen is a pain to keep streak free! Though easy to clean, it does show all the fingermarks.
