I’m very tempted to paint my front door pale pink, but not sure what DH will think.
Has anyone got pictures of theirs ? Does the colour go well with an autumnal wreath and Xmas wreath ?

That looks infinitely better.

Thank you! I think so too, although unlike other posters my DH actually preferred it when it was pink. He thinks the Silt is boring.....

Bloomsbury is lovely @FantasticElasticBand!

This is mine. It’s not to everyone’s taste, but I really do love pink.

I’ve been debating painting it sage, but have got the whole of autumn and winter to decide!

Gorgeous. Such a pretty house and garden.

I would just buy the paint and do it if it needs repainting and you're the one who's going to have to do it.

That's lovely. I prefer the pale pinks like this.

My neighbour’s. It’s a bit pale for my taste.

I just posted an example of red brick and it looks fab.

TBF that's red sandstone but agree it does look great.

ItsSoStimulatingBeingYourHat · 12/10/2023 19:20

Ah I’m ridiculously pleased that there are other people who like my door too! Thank you! 😊

AutumnWellyBootsandScarf · 12/10/2023 19:37

it all depends on your exterior, but it's only paint, door size paint (not whole exterior!!) if you don't like it, just paint over it!

akk of you with wood doors, are any of them relatively new doors?

i have door paint envy!

I'm looking at composite doors, security, maintenance etc, but I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing...

Someoneonlyyouknow · 12/10/2023 19:39

If your DH doesn't like pink how does he feel about Pale Terracotta or Auburn Snow?

It really doesn't.

It really doesn't.

a pale lilac would look better with red brick than pale pink imo.

baby blue or mint might look fab as well.

TammyJones · 12/10/2023 20:01

Is this new trend.
I love pink.
I was actually surprised how good some of these look.

SarahAndQuack · 12/10/2023 20:01

I agree with others it depends on the house. My brother used to live in a gorgeous Edwardian house, with tiles up to the front door, very like what @KingsleyBorder posted. Their door was a bright fuschia pink and it looked wonderful.

I also like @FantasticElasticBand's colour.

I don't like pink with red brick, though - not ever. And I think pale pinks only work with pristine white walls (tricky to maintain!) or dark grey stone. I haven't got a picture but I know a house in the Lake District with those distinctive, grey stone walls, and the door is a lovely blush pink set off with eucalyptus lollipops beside the door, and it looks fabulous. I do think making any door colour work has a lot to do with what you're doing elsewhere to the front of the house.

GetWhatYouWant · 12/10/2023 20:07

A woman near me recently had a bright pink composite door installed on her redbrick modern house, to me it looks twee and cheap even though it probably wasn't. There are so many other much nicer colours out there.

Lovemycat2023 · 12/10/2023 20:40

Ours isn’t pale pink, it’s a more dusky pink, but I love the shade. It’s an F&B vintage shade. Although my FIL asked if it was undercoat recently!

@Lovemycat2023 that's mauve, surely, or purple, rather than pink?

It’s taken in the dusk unfortunately, but it’s this colour https://www.farrow-ball.com/archived-paint/crimson-red described as “a deep warm pink”.

Archive Collection: Crimson Red

Richly pigmented paint and handcrafted wallpaper.

I was wondering how the wooden doors were too.
I was wonder if they were draughty as that’s my only experience with wooden doors, but it was 15+ years ago.
We do have composite @AutumnWellyBootsandScarf and it’s been brilliant, although we do have quite a sheltered porch area so it really doesn’t get wet or too much full sun. Apparently they can warp in the sun.

dontcallmelen · 15/10/2023 09:42

Mine is the original Victorian wooden door with stained glass it is draughty but it’s beautiful so I put up with it, I do have a door curtain in the winter & padded draught excluder which makes a big difference & as it’s wood it’s easy to paint mine has been sage green, pink, navy & currently teal green thinking of painting it lavender or yellow in the spring.
