What mattress did you go for and would you recommend it?

I am in the market and am thinking of the tempur (firm)

Emma Premium - got in their boxing day Sale for 50% off and it's great so far

Choosea · 24/07/2023 14:48

Same as previous poster. Emma mattress in the sale a few years ago - no complaints! Other than it's a mammouth task to change the bedding on a super king!

fgfhds · 24/07/2023 14:51

Went to Dreams and did the mattress test thing, always thought we wanted hard mattresses but came up medium, found the most sublime mattress (it's a Tempur one with a topper on it too) and it's the best money I have ever spent, still say so 3 years down the line. So I'd go to a showroom and try a few out.

Adviceneeded234 · 24/07/2023 15:26

Thank you these are helpful!

I did go into dreams and tested out the tempur mattress. We preferred the firm most and are seriously thinking about purchasing it

as for the Emma Mattress, we asked to view these in dreams too but they said they stopped stocking them bcos many people asked for refunds due to them dipping in the middle - sounds like this was not your experience

We have a Visprung SK mattress had it years and its fab and still going strong.

LibertyLily · 24/07/2023 15:42

We've had a Sealy Posturepedic for the past five years - love that it's firm but not too much 😉

mondaytosunday · 24/07/2023 16:07

I did (wouldn't fit in my current bedroom sadly). It was a Tempur mattress and I loved it.

Techno56 · 24/07/2023 16:14

I don't like memory foam ...too hot. So we bought a pocket sprung mattress from John Ryan online. I don't trust bed/mattress stores. It's so comfy we have bought them for several other beds. Expensive but worth it (didn't buy the top end of the range). They are very deep though and need extra deep sheets.

I have two single mattresses with a super king topper. Struggled with getting a superking mattress upstairs.

Us too. It’s nice as movement from one side does not transfer to the other.

DilettanteMum · 24/07/2023 16:46

We have a tempur. Nothing compares.

You will want a wool mattress cover though to regulate heat.

Adviceneeded234 · 24/07/2023 17:13

I am loving these recommendations, would’ve never thought about the wool topper and genius about the two singles mattresses!

I wonder if that is cheaper to do

And what is it with memory foam and not regulating temperature- do I need to be worried about this?

We ordered one from Emma and they let us down and it never turned up, we needed one there and then so went to IKEA, it was all rolled up, whacked it in the back of the car and was gone within the hour. Had it 5 years and no problems, but also use a topper.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/07/2023 17:17

*home within the hour

Adviceneeded234 · 24/07/2023 17:18

Haha, I thought someone had stolen it - (gone within the hour) but realised you’d meant home when you said you’ve had it for 5 years

I really recommend the simba medium form. The trouble is we don't ever want to get out of bed in the mornings it's too comfy

User6424678852 · 24/07/2023 17:25

We had an Emma mattress but it was like a sweaty dog bed! Over the course of a year or so we both ended up with a permanent “sleeping dent”. It was awful.

Changed it for an IKEA one. I don’t remember the name, but the one with two layers of pocket springs. Bloody brilliant!

IrisBearded · 24/07/2023 17:32

We have the eve premium hybrid mattress, I love it, sleep really well on it.

eveoha · 24/07/2023 17:46

We had a John Lewis zip and link easier to manoeuvre 👍🏿☘️

Marilla1966 · 24/07/2023 18:27

A super king Hypnos from John Lewis. Love it x

TeenagersAngst · 24/07/2023 18:48

Tempur all the way. It's glorious.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/07/2023 18:52

I've had a Tempur super king for the last 15 years, it's wonderful but spoils you for any other bed you'll ever sleep on! Takes a while to get used to sleeping on, took me a week.

SpikeWithoutASoul · 24/07/2023 18:54

My Emma also has a deep dip where I sleep. 3 years old. Really want a new one.

KathieFerrars · 24/07/2023 18:58

Zip and link so two beds and two mattresses. Fully sprung, wool cased firm mattresses and i have a memory foam topper on mine. Before we have had medium mattresses but be aware that you get a dip if you sit on the side. The firm ones are about ten years old now and are fine. Much easier to turn and also hoover round a zip and link.
