Can anyone recommend the best blackout blinds? The early sunshine is going to finish me off. Thanks :)

Just bought some thermal black out blinds from blinds to go. Made to measure ones for my large bedroom window. They are amazing!

not only are the dark (obvs) but I have had the blinds closed when the suns on the room and the thermal property obviously works both ways and my room is super cool in temperature having had the heat reflected

WoMandalorian · 12/06/2023 21:19

Blocblinds are what we have in our room. My DH needs the void of darkness to sleep 😂 they were a bit expensive but I'm so glad he's no longer hanging blankets off the bloody curtain pole!

HideTheCroissants · 12/06/2023 21:27

We have black out blinds from blinds 2 go in two of our bedrooms and DHs study. We also have curtains from them in another two rooms. True blackout and very reasonable. You can get free fabric swatches to help decide which you want.

TheFairyCaravan · 12/06/2023 21:30

We had them made from Blinds to Go. It’s properly dark in our bedrooms until they’re opened.

I just wear a silk eye mask. Black as the pits of hell for around a fiver on Amazon.

Alongtimelonely · 12/06/2023 21:37

I got some made by a local blind shop - the absolutely key thing is they HAVE to fit perfectly otherwise you get that chink of light. Ours really help with insulation too.

FarFarAwayB · 12/06/2023 21:38

Just make sure any blackout blinds are fitted within the window recess or light will leak out from the edges,

I have Blinds To Go blackout blinds they're fitted in the recess.
The metal brackets supplied with them are bulky so quite a bit of daylight shows down the sides & across the top of the blinds, very disappointed.

SamPoodle123 · 13/06/2023 12:44

We had blackouts fitted to go inside the window recess behind our shutters. It is amazing and I can not believe I waited so long to do this!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/06/2023 13:03

Ours are from dunelm. They work. I also have lines curtains up. Both of us work nights and this system works to keep us both in the dark and cool.

Mine are actually fitted outside the recess but with a good overlap so no light spilling out. My old blinds were in the recess and there was light coming through all around the edges.

Ikea do them,

We have Bloc Out ones in the kids' rooms. Pricey but excellent. They block out everything and no light leakage.

isthisit83 · 18/06/2023 07:54

I was going to go for the bloc blinds but it was £362 for one window and you still have to fit yourself. Our window recess is at an angle so not square and we will have to alter them to fit the blinds properly. I wasn't sure if there was something cheaper which would still do the job. I know they need to have a "cassette" frame type thing to fit in.

I recently got some roman blinds with blackout lining from www.britishmadeinteriors.com and they work great, not as blackout as some perfect fit blinds I had before but I wanted something with a nice pattern
