What do you think to a glass chandelier over a kitchen dining table ?

would you? (Is it too tacky? It’s a
new build also)

if not what do you have above yours?

I really want this one www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-athenea-chandelier-ceiling-light-smoke-clear/p3171941

Now to persuade my husband... It's a 30s house but I'm not sure it's his style.

Nogg · 23/04/2023 17:12

I want sure what they would be like over a table

Not to put you off , but I've heard that having one in a kitchen is not great as they get a greasy film over them so they will dull up.

Nogg · 23/04/2023 17:38

What would anyone suggest then. For some reason I don’t want one of those pendant lights that seem to be the most popular.

I have this wine glass chandelier. It's a pain to take all the glasses down to wash it though and it attracts dust like crazy. I love it, but guess it wouldn't be for everyone!

kitchenplans

wow Very unusual!

somewhere to store your glasses also !

Love that @kitchenplans!

We have a candle chandelier over ours, but only light it occasionally. We tend to have lamps or the other couple of overhead lights (just big bulbs on a swagged flex) on most evenings when we eat. Here's a couple of pics

LibertyLily
great room!
love the chandelier.
yours is quite tasteful. Is that green ribbons on it?
I keep getting drawn to shiny glass ones and I’m not sure if that will be too much ( I only have a new build so not a grand period room like yours)

I dunno but I think of kitchen dining as informal so if you have to have a chandelier I'd save it for the dining room.

Timeforachangeisitnot · 23/04/2023 20:03

Mine is in the bathroom 😳I am not home right now so no photo. There is no shower in there so it’s safe. I love it.

HouseInTheMiddle · 23/04/2023 20:04

Haven't put mine in the kitchen, far too much detail cleaning involved like others have said.

beguilingeyes · 23/04/2023 20:17

Oh my, I've just looked on eBay and there are dozens of them.

Isabelle70 · 23/04/2023 20:31

This is mine in my lounge. I wouldn't be able to have this in a kitchen as I would be too scared to take off the flowers to clean them. It's bad enough when I have to change a bulb.
It was on my wish list for years and I managed to track it down to the workshop in Murano.

I don’t have a dining room just this big kitchen dinner living room area. It’s hard to know what to put over the table !

Thanks @Nogg! Green 'ribbons', yep - actually roughly cut strips of silky velvet left over from a cushion project, ha!

The room looks quite period now (not sure about grand or tasteful!), but it was formerly an ugly kitchen. Although the house is 400 years old, all the character was long gone by the time we bought it. We added the panelling and a fireplace when we swapped the rooms about 😉

We don't have a table in the kitchen anymore but used to have glass light fittings when we did. In a previous house we had a massive 1m high chandelier in the kitchen.

If you love the idea of a chandelier - and as this thread is evidencing they come in all shapes/sizes/materials - I'd go for it! Hope you come back and show us what you choose.

I love this! Can you tell us where you found it in Murano pls?

StupidCars · 23/04/2023 22:16

We have this above our dining table. I love a chandelier but dh isn't keen and the cleaning of them does put me off

I love a chandelier! I have this one over my kitchen table. (The photo isn’t mine, it’s from a website).

@Tedzer it could be from this company. Mine is 11 years old now. Mine is slightly smaller at 45cm I think.
If not Rainbow London stock them or can order.

Kyse · 23/04/2023 23:02

I have a bedroom one!

Nogg · 23/04/2023 23:15

Thanks
I saw these in a store but I’m still not sure I can pull it off. Also I don’t want glare in my eyes if the light !

MummyJ12 I love that . I think that would be too heavy for my ceilings though.

I have this cluster light in a different colour way ( mostly greens) over my kitchen table.
If I were going to choose a crystal chandelier I would put it in the hall or bedroom, where it would be less likely to get sticky than in a kitchen diner.

I think it'd look great op. I have a friend who has a modern house, just a 3 bed semi, they have a lovely kitchen diner with an island with a chandelier similar to this above it.. sounds awful but looks fabulous!
